Not gonna lie, they make trucks look just a little cooler. So I'm adding this to my tundra, why not? Life is short get what you want.

I had no idea what those "cables" were for. I thought they were for supporting the Jeep cage-style racks under load to keep them from touching the windshield. So I started searching for an explanation. Glad I did, I live in the Northeast where branches and limbs abound.

I made my limb riser for a dollar. Used a Red dog 30' yqrd lead from the dollar store. Both ends had clips. Red vinyl covering over steel line. I just ran them through bar of bull front bar and clipped to roof rack.

ShawnieBeans I made mine with red dog cable. The red sun faded away. I have turn buckles on the fender end.

I have them on my Jeep, made them myself ... used to have a Universal Gym ... shows how much I used it . Now the wires are on my Jeep. Few dings on the body and windows from before i had them. They've come in handy on numerous occasions. I put them on because of past experiences, but sometimes to be ready for things to come. The "oooo! Wonder what's up there!?!" moments. Plus... I like the look of 'em.

I use limb risers on my truck when I do overgrown tracks like that. I made mine out of 3mm dyneema rope from ebay and a pair of turnbuckles. I back spliced the rope into loops at each end of a super short rope and a long rope then connect those witht he turn buckle The long rope loops around the roof rack bar and goes from the top down The the short rope just loop it around the bullbar The turn buckle joins the two together. 3mm dyneema has a braking strain of about 500kg, so it's more than enought

You can also source these materials at a marine store such as West Marine. A bit more $ but will have a selection of SS rigging and life line cable and fasteners.

I installed a set of Steinjager quick-disconnect limb risers on my 2014 Jeep Wrangler. There's considerable wind noise so I keep the A-pillar brackets and cables disconnected and hanging in the garage until I might need them. So far they've been handy for Christmas lights and stringing Buddhist prayer flags.

Your video is very timely. I just added a set to my rig a couple of days ago. It cost me $33 canuck bucks and a couple of brackets I had laying around, since I don't have a bull bar to mount them to. We have a ton of very tight overgrown tracks here in BC, so these will no doubt come in handy. Cheers from 16340!

Could you do a stainless cable then do the hard plastic heat shrink wrap - like is used on electrical connections - I believe they sell them in bulk length. With a stainless turn buckle at either end to create the tension.
@OverlandBound4 жыл бұрын
Turnbuckle is what I use - I put cable in the description.

I will say this, after 35+ years of off roading in the USA, I had NEVER seen them until Ford Bronco debuted the newest rig and everyone was wondering what the gimmick was with the "limb risers" on it. In my neck of the woods, we just accept going slow and getting out to clear major obstacles. If you are going so fast that your windshield might get broke, you are being reckless IMO. Scratches are part of the game when you go into the bush. And "limb risers" won't change that fact. ;)
@teamorozuk68194 жыл бұрын
It appears that the awning on the passenger side came after the limb risers. Have you had a limb ride up that cable and get stuck at the top? I already have plans to create a way to suspend flexible solar panels in 1/10” vinyl over the windshield and hood for when I’m parked and I still need to juice storage batteries. There’s the dual purpose theme you mentioned in an earlier video.
@OverlandBound4 жыл бұрын
Great idea! No stuck branches yet!
@nomaddict52794 жыл бұрын
Yes, I have had branches do that exact thing while going off road in the woods of central Nova Scotia. The limb riser funneled some branches right up between the awning and the roof rack. It made for a nice bouquet of just about every tree type we saw! LOL. That said, they are very functional and I wouldn’t take them off just because of that happening occasionally.

I've never seen them on 4bys here in Australia however I've been on a lot of tracks where they would've been handy. I just don't think they're justified enough to be practical and I've heard they make an annoying wind noise.
