Great video, thanks for sharing! I'd never use ND filters that require to take the lens of. I am filming in very dusty and dirty environment and only would use the oem dji ND filters which don't require to remove the lens.

Have you looked at the action box cine? I have a video I just released on it. Maybe it could be adapted to the dji action 4?

Would you leave the shutter speed on auto when using the ND Filters? I'm assuming the Action 4 would just automatically reduce the shutter speed to compensate for the ND filter, which would result in a shutter speed that looks more cinematic.. ?

That's exactly right, just be aware that stabilisation works better with a faster shutter speed.

My trouble with the hassle of using nd:s with these action cams is a couple of things: 1. To retain good stabilization performance you cant go below 1/200'th shutter speed 2. To get best results you need to lock manual expo settings and this is tough using it as intended as an actioncam. Motovlogging scenarios change very rapidly and it's impossible to set everything over and over again in a shoot. 3. Does anyone actually care(?) if it's not stock footage you film to youtube. Eventually the "return of invested time" diminishes and the actual content is much more important than the framerate or any other technical stuff on the video. Also Many people especially in my niche focus so much on the video guality they forget that sound is actually even more important. Video can even be out of focus if the sound is bang on it's much better than other way around. Horrid sound ruins so many motovloggers videos. ps. I get that filming straight down shows the difference the best BUT nobody want's to see that angle of view straight down to the tire. Showing the result filming forward would be more of a 'real world scenario'.

I don't get the hangup on stabilisation... The DJI has no problem handling stabilisation even when messing with shutter speeds, unless you really go to the extremes, but ND filters won't take you there, the improvement in dynamic range of bright areas (and dark areas you can lift up in post) and the improved motion blur, vastly outweighs the slightly worse stabilisation. I know for a fact I'd much rather watch a bit shakier footage but with smooth blur, over a very stable but jarring video...

Hello, im all for nd filters, but since the introduction of software stabilization it's a pain in the ass. The jitter created by the software and low shutterspeed isn't worth it. I'm suprised at how many youtubers ignore this issue and try to convince people that you need an nd filter for a action camera. Most of the time a youtber will say: well if you crank up your'e shutterspeed to 400 you can use an nd filter. That almost entirely cancel out the motion blur, but hey you have spend an extra 79 bucks. If you don't want to use a mechanical gimball spend the money on some usefull other accessories.

It's a really good point, it works well in the situation in the video because it's fixed on a bike on a relatively smooth path. There is a time and place where the nd filters are with using, and other times when you might favour the stabilisation.

@@OakleyFr yes all the brands have this problem. I have several action camera's DJI and gopro. When I want to use nd filters i use a gimbal. Bc i like the motion blur it makes it more soothing to the eyes. I've got a Zhiyun z1 Evolution and that works great for me. Down site is i have to bring more equipment, when I'm mountain climbing, Gimbal, batteries, charger etc... I use software stabilization when I'm in or on the water or in a already low light environment.

My test, experience: this information is hardly mentioned on KZbin. Set your OSMO Action4 to at least 1/160sec or better 1/200sec in Rock Steady mode (digital stabilizer). The stabilizer is overwhelmed with shorter exposure times and you get unusable, blurry images. So you can forget about the often recommended 25/30 images with a 50/60sec exposure time with ND filter "Motion Blur" (180 degree rule) for smooth images. You almost always need digital stabilization switched on with an action cam.

@@Rush-Media Oh that would be great sir! Thank you so much for being so helpful! I'm really inquisitive to learn about fps. One time I recorded 4k 120 and it wasn't really needed because the activity I was doing wasn't that fast. So yes any calculations on how much fps should be enough for a certain kind of activity would be really helpful! And sir, please tell me is there a way to do light painting on action 4? I really wanna try those with this camera. Thank you again and I look forward to your reply and videos ! Subscribed✨

@@Rush-Media Oh and one more thing, since action cam's focus is always of infinity, is there a way to get it focus on something, so we can click some nice focused shots with blurry back, or do the same in videos? Perhaps an easy and free editing software?😅
