My novel writing professor propounded his theory that writing is a highly-stylized form of drawing, and that all the same properties and principles that are involved in drawing are involved in writing: light, shadow, movement (what was the Mona Lisa doing just before she smiled?), and so forth. He also noted that the eye uses the same rods and cones to interpret fiction that people use to see. Though it is much too complex to cover here, I have used his theory for decades. I'm glad to hear you say the things you did.

I find that it took me a while to learn to that art is a combination of desire and determination to be successful I have always painted and sketched in my spare time but over the course of that last 2 years began to do daily sketches and now I feel like i am more confident and skilled because the materials and the muscle memory of drawing are always familiar and fresh. I now feel strange if I go too long without putting something down on paper. I am good at drawing because I choose to be not because some wizard gave me a magic drawing hand. :)

Thank you Shoo, I'm still learning to draw... and it's good to hear what you're saying in this video... it makes me feel better ! and I realise that even though my drawings are not as good as I want them to be, I can keep on learning, I don't have to argue, only keep on the work and believe one day I will be able to draw like... a pro, that's my goal, my graal ! ( I want to be cartoonist... 😭 ) ... And may be an angel will help me to improve my skills during my work, I hope so, because I'm really strugling to reach this level !... 😢 I like the way you speak about drawing, that's peacefull and stressless, thank you ! 🎠

Sometimes fill the colors with watercolors. At least spend one hour per day, watch youtute, google photo that im interesting as reference. Thank you, Shoo! You're give very good advice.

Oh Shoo you just put my thoughts into words. I began carrying around simple twistable colouring pencils, pencils to draw, fine liners and mini (they are mini scrapbooks but do the trick as they are blank pages LOL)sketch books in my bag. When I am having coffee I get to work on an "idea" floating in my head. I have been asked multiple times if I was the one drawing. I say Uhm Yes LOL! Then I get the wildest compliments. Thing is I never feel they are any good. Yet people stop me and ask me about what I am doing and are amazed. LOL I got called creative and not sure what to think of that! hahaha!

Shoo Rayner exactly. I love going into the local Art Gallery and admiring others works. Take Jean Michel Basquiat. Just at a glance you would think a child could create one of his art pieces. However if one looks at the intricacies you will see he is simply using an old art form. Almost primitive.and like Jackson Pollock who is the first to separate abstract lines from colour. Simply amazing!

Creativity is something you can learn, I have attended design school and we were taught how to think Creativ and work with creativity. First, Creativity comes from problem solving. But creativity also comes from making 100 sketches of an idea and constantly trying to change that idea. It's about getting as many thoughts on paper as possible. just like a mind map. That's how all the arts do. They do a whole lot of sketches and do a lot of tests before they reach the final result.

great video, I 1oo% agree. theres a person in my friend circle who tries to be "the artist" type so hard it comes off forced and phoney. if he spend half the time drawing as he does pretending to emulate what he thinks a artist should be he would be pretty good. p.s. I love tat ya said ya don't need drug/booze. I have 3 years clean and I noticed my creativity is stronger. its almost likeits own muscle I had to work ou

I find it annoying when you say everyone can draw, it simply is not true, the same as there are many people who can't read and write, The only people who can draw are those who want to, and those who don't have any physical or mental problem that prevents them, something as simple as having shaky hands can prevent you from controlling the pencil.

If that's so, I can't even solve most of the mathematical problems. I can't even count money more than a cashier could count. I always failed in the mathematic subject but passed and merely failed the subject on the final exam. I got many A(s) for other subjects but not mathematics. Is this because I was born without the talent to solve the mathematical problems or I'm just plain lazy and stupid?

Anyone can "draw" to an extent, but drawing "properly" as in realistic art is a talent definitely not a skill.
@shooraynerdrawing
@shooraynerdrawing 4 жыл бұрын
If you mean by "realistic art" something that looks like a photograph, then that's a learned skill - that's just copying what you se or copying a photograph. The talent/creative,srtistic thing is quite different. that is about ideas. Drawing is one way of manifesting thoughts and ideas. Realism is just acting as a mirror. With Creative artistic talent, you need to bring something else - ideas, understanding, and a new vision.
@SteSeed
@SteSeed 4 жыл бұрын
Your entitled to your opinion of course, but I have to say I disagree. I think drawing to an "acceptable standard" should we say is outright talent. All I ever hear is practice practice practice, I for one have practiced practiced practiced daily and I can honestly say I've gotten nowhere, if anything I got worse, which is why I've thrown in the towel and given up. It's meant to be for some people but not others, pretty much like everything in life, I've dealt with it, given up and I'm moving on, I definitely gave it a damn good try over a fair period of time but it just wasn't meant to be. Thank you for taking the time to reply.
