Totally agree with the onesie and squatting in the forest. I am a 60 something female runner and I look like hell on earth following a run. Nothing I can wear can change that. As long as I have good quality footwear everything else is pretty much charity shop finds. Love you channel.

I looove my toe socks! I've not had a blister since I switched about 10 years ago, even during ultras. Totally recommend! 😊

Hahaha ok I’ll try them
@bruceh593325 күн бұрын
I agree with this, I did a 118km ultra with toe socks and had zero blisters. When adventure racing I just wear regular wool socks and always get blisters on the same two toes.
@steggy1325 күн бұрын
Okay question, because I've literally never had a blister from two toes rubbing together, only from my toe/foot X the shoe, so.. I don't know if they actually help me personally
@bruceh593325 күн бұрын
@@steggy13 my middle and next smallest toe overlap and that’s where I get blisters, so the toe socks keep them from rubbign and getting blisters. If you don’t have overlapping toes, then the toe socks may do nothing for you. Anecdotally from one of my co-workers she likes to wear to socks because she likes they way they feel better, so maybe just try one pair to see if you like that.
@steggy1325 күн бұрын
@@bruceh5933 thought it might be something like that, I've got a pair just as I wanted to try the out, does a bit feel like you have constant toe wedgies 🫠

Running sunglasses. I’m slow as hell but I have super sensitive eyes, my running club often heads down along the canals when we meet, and in summer there’s midges galore and I don’t want them in my eyes. In winter, the cold wind makes my eyes water so much it looks like I’m crying.
@bookishletters25 күн бұрын
Agree with everything you said except the massage gun and the toe socks. It DOES prevent blisters. It prevents your toe skin from rubbing onto the next toes skin. They’re not fashionable but that’s not the point 😂

I run in Goodr running sunglasses. Cheap and can be used as regular sunglasses when I’m done running. I mainly use them to protect my eyes from UV rays because I’m terrified of developing cataracts later on in life 😅 I use them for every run just like I use sunscreen for every run!
@MrTom0rrow24 күн бұрын
Yup same I use Goodr because they are a good price. Sunglasses and a hat also mean that you don’t have to put sunscreen around your eyes, important when you start sweating to stop sunscreen getting in your eyes 🥺
@TheJadezilla24 күн бұрын
Agreed! I like goodr for two reasons. One, they come in some really street-style shapes so I wear mine out, even when I'm not running. And two, they are UV400. Some glasses are just shaded but don't block much UV light. this dilates your pupils but doesn't block the UV rays so even more damaging UV light is entering your eye! Be careful out there folks 😘

I use a pair of cycling glasses for running, I find them especially essential when trail running in the summer, as they keep the bugs out of your eyes. I’m also a big fan of my massage gun.

Toe socks are amazing. They keep your toes from rubbing against each other, which at least for me, caused blisters. I switched to Injinji toe socks and never looked back.

One thing which you left off the list is compression calf sleeves. They do work, however it is designed for using for longer distances, marathon and over. You do need to be size specific. You would need to put them on first before you put your socks on, otherwise it would be too hard to get them to be comfortable. They go from just below the knee to the ankle.

At first I thought the scrunchies are kinda useful, but when you said they're not rechargable, I realised they're probably more like a one time party accessory 😅 I just bought a running vest and I agree, that was definitely a good investment. I need something to put my phone in, and running belts never stay in one place (at least for me). And of course, there's space for other things like water, tissues, and more.
@Runswithemily25 күн бұрын
Yess!! Running vests are totally worth the investment, especially if you like to take everything you own with you when you run like me 😂😭

Toe socks DO stop blisters on your toes! If you don't get blisters here you don't need them. I wear a cheap cap as I don't like sunglasses when I'm running. Keeps sun and rain out of the eyes. All I need to run is sweat wicking gear and shoes/toe soaks 😂
@29028ft22 күн бұрын
You’re wrong about toe socks! They’re AMAZING. The hikng community has sworn by injinji (the go to brand) for years. For one - they allow your toes to spread more naturally so it’s better for your foot; and two - they help to prevent blisters BEWTEEN your toes that arise from your toes rubbing together. Maybe you’re not a between-the-toe-blister girl - but I am. That is where I get blisters (and many other people as well). These socks totally eliminate them. I love my injinjis

Dave MacLeod, amazing Scottish climber and nutritionist, did a superb video on green powders, AG1 in particular and like you said, they are all marketing and no real benefit.The massage gun, though, I love and use quite a lot! And on the topic of plated shoes: I got a pair when I travelled to China, from a Chinese brand at a fraction of the cost of the typical options in Europe and still cheaper than my normal everyday running shoes. Like them and feel like they are faster than my normal ones, but that might also just be the amazing orange colour 😂 And Injinjis are AMAZING! I have a problem with a recurring blister between my pinky toe and the next one (I also climb and the climbing shoes have over the years morphed my feet...) and these fixed immediately.

I have a pair of Goodr sunglasses can be found for less than £30 and don’t slip or slide when you hot and sweaty. Also have a cheap massage gun, find they are good for warming up the muscles before a run (especially in winter) and easing any niggles. Still go to physio for a proper massage though! I was skeptical about plated shoes until I bought some for my marathon training, legs definitely feel fresher after long runs of 20 miles or more, it’s not about speed it’s more about assisting your legs for longer distances and less effort.

I got the running vest right! We are so similar in that respect. I love wearing mine. Running scrunchies! That is hilarious. My hair is always covered by a hat or headband in the winter anyway.

I allllways wear sunglasses no matter the season, my eyes are sensitive to the light and always tearing from the wind. EXCEPT! I don't wear them while running 😅 I cannot stand it somehow, so I use visors/caps, even when no sun, simply against the wind. Works suprisingly well. Those scrunchies seem just useless waste to me 🤷♀️ so many options with lights that are dureable and more versatile in use.

I don't have running specific sunglasses but I do everything (running, riding, driving, walking, just being outdoors) in my Oakley Flak Jacket sunglasses. My eyes are bad enough so I find it's worth protecting them from further damage since you shouldn't apply sunscreen to your eyeballs. Plus they stop various flying things from getting stuck where they shouldn't. Fully with you on the green powders. If you are missing something in your diet, maybe fix that first before adding expensive powder supplements.

You have got to try carbon plated shoes. If not for the speed of them, then for the ease with which they make running. I'm only a slow runner so, but my carbon shoes took 10 minutes off my 1hr 14min PB in two weeks . Scary cool. Other than poncey carbon shoes, I ignore all hyped running gear. I do spend a bit on shoes, but other than that I buy all of my running clothing from stalls on the market.

Totally disagree about massage guns. They won't heal an injury of course and aren't as good as having a massage from a qualified professional but they certainly have their place in keeping you ticking over.

This is so good. I find a lot of the viral products are garbage. Sometimes the concepts are good but they’re brought to market quickly without a lot of research or testing. I take a green powder in my smoothies but not one from one of these viral companies. It’s a company that has been in the health industry for decades and they make multivitamins that are backed by actual research, not a tiktoker. What I use has the nutrients I need to help mitigate migraines and is easier to take than all the nutrients in pill form. People need to do actual research. I think the problem is that we are blindly following influencers who are paid to market products. But all that being said, I love your messaging that all you need are a pair of comfortable shoes to get started with running. That’s the best messaging.
@Runswithemily25 күн бұрын
Agreed!! It’s so easy to be influenced to buy something when it feels like everyone is using them!

A friend influenced me to get across UltraViolette sunscreen? It's not cheap (so keep an eye out for specials) but it is phenomenal for the Australian summer. They have a face cream that is non-greasy (i have acne problems but this doesnt make them worse like lots of other sunscreens) and even if it drips into my eyes, it doesnt sting. I also rate their body sunscreen and have seen a huge difference when i missed a spot on my last trip to the beach 😂

Green powder, just eat more veggies or take a supplement. A massage gun is only good if you know how to use it. Personally, a squash ball and foam roller is a lot cheaper and just as effective. I don't get on with a hydration vest, but for 3 plus hours, they are better than the belt I usually wear. I use my cycling glasses for running, they're pretty much the same thing.
