I think that you don't need to be a native speaker, but also you really need to immerse yourself in the English language and basically organize your life around using English extensively in your everyday life. You also need a certain degree of natural talent for languages and a genuine interest in writing - but you need those to be a UX writer (or any kind of writer) anyway.

Great video as always! Question: There are a lot of content online about the differences between a copywriter and a ux writer, but what are some commonalities? I think that’d be interesting for people looking to jump between the two fields. I’m currently a ux writer at TikTok, but there aren’t a lot of jobs for ux writers where I am as it’s a relatively new field and I’m thinking of going into copywriting. But how can I transfer my skills as a ux writer into copywriting?

@@rysbow Yeah I'm in China too. I thought when you said TikTok it might be China. It's still a very new field here. Slightly more positions down in HK. But I can imagine there's not much in Malaysia either...

I am happy that I came across your videos. They are very helpful. I have a couple questions. I got an UX Design Certificate so is it necessary to get a Certificate for UX Writer?

If you watch my video on how to get into UX writing, I talk about courses and certificates. I don't think it's necessary, no, but a good course can give you a solid foundation. You can of course self study. But if you're going to be applying for UX writing jobs, your portfolio will need to focus on writing not designing.

Thanks Tere! I get a lot of people requesting portfolio videos so I guess I will have to see what I can do. There are some general guidelines, but I find it's always best to get a portfolio review/critique, because everyone's portfolio is unique. Where did you find my linkedin link that doesn't work?
