I think this is a really complicated topic to really dig into if we're trying to answer what is the -right- way to play, and I think one week isn't enough data to give a solid answer. The discussion I always heard around bear weaving was that at most it'd give around 5%-7% increased damage, which is a nice additional step you can take to help edge out some additional damage, but the question of is it necessary to play like that? No. Absolutely not. If that was the standard we were holding, where 7% damage output was the difference between viable and garbage then we'd have next to no class diversity outside of supplying buffs to the most optimal choice. But the question of if its actually better or not just can't be answered yet. I think looking at those logs it's really important to keep in mind that fight duration and overall group performance is a massive contribution to how we individually parse. Seeing fights listed there that are as short as one minute is not the experience that 99% of the people playing feral will experience in their group. When you have almost 100% blood lust uptime, 25% berserk uptime and every other factor helping boost you, and you compare that to someone in an average guild where these fights might take 3+ minutes, the answer to what is the correct way to play, or the damage difference the playstyle might contribute could be totally different for a lot of reasons. I'm not saying any of this to fight against the idea that bear weaving isn't nessacary, it isn't, but I think it's also bad to take the conclusion of "Well if the top feral doesn't do it, and anyone who does is incorrect." is just as toxic and unproductive as forcing people to bearweave in the first place. Just play how you wanna play, and as long as you're doing damage appropriate for the culture your guild is facilitating, then just enjoy the game.

I don't think he was saying it's incorrect, in fact he quite clearly stated that he would not be surprised if a bear weaver passed him on the lists. His point was that you shouldn't feel it's the only way to play feral now. At least that's my interpretation.

like always when you theory craft a spec based around a patchwek style fight but is impossible to use on 99% of bosses it is not going to stand up in real world parses. Do you know why there was no bearweaving in OG wrath? There was flower weaving BTW. Bearweaving just wasn't practical on most fights and gearing for it screwed your AOE.

@@wroogny Yea, turns out feral, no matter what rotation you use, is pretty lack luster. I went there to figure out what I was doing wrong only to see that the #1 feral is like rank 1500. Our #1 is pretty much bottom of the barrel compared to other classes #1. Now I don't feel so bad

I think its fine for discords to want to push their characters more with bear weaving or w.e, but that is kinda scummy that people are throwing hate your way for just playing it how you trust yourself to be consistent with. I'm not exactly a great player, but using a sterile environment to say "hey I do more dps" is kinda silly to me. If you need a fight where you can sit still and have no mechanics to worry about in order to do more dps it _probably_ isn't realistic.

It is called a "Patchwerk Fight" and has been the metric for solo dps for ages now. It's fine if its silly to you, we all enjoy the game in different ways, but the numbers, sims, and logs show bear weaving to be significantly higher single target dps for the feral

In a race for world first single target isn't as valuable as overall damage. Everyone who bear weaved overall hurt their raid clear time by a lot for an extra 800 damage on patchwork.

Sure you can do your super complicated ultra deluxe 420 rotation on the simplest fight in the game, but as soon as you start adding in mechanics they fall flat on their face. What are your thoughts on idol shifting during the fight? The Bis lists all say use Idol of Worship, but we cast so many shreds, i know it uses a gcd, but swapping to the shred idol before shreds and swapping to the rip idol before rips seems like it could still be a dps increase.

I think it’s not so much gcd but swing timer reset. If you can combo it with anytime you leave form, be it bearweave or flowershift, then it’ll be good.

Hah! I wrote in druid disc that agility is the way to go in phase 1 when crit is lower, and agi makes more of an impact. More CPs really ease up the rotation. And bear weaving is such a minor increase. I have enough to do with keeping rip rake and roar up while also doing mechanics really. So also went AGI. We will see later, when crit goes up, I might mix in some strength.

Sorry but is it just me or is it completely pointless to say "I got Rank 1 without bear weaving" when in fact the kill times of the bosses are SO much faster compared to 99% of all players that your personal DPS will of course be much much higher? I mean if you have Berserk Uptime for 30% of the boss fight compared to someone with only 15% uptime, same for blood lust and all the other cooldowns, then the comparison doesn't really make sense You would have to compare 2 same runs with same boss killtimes etc to make a statement, everything you said is based on your numbers and your ranking relative to other people Especially you're even saying "I didn't even play that well" That just proves the point that you just rode the wave of your guild When you had the podcast with the 2 guys who tried to make up numbers in a reasonable way (Feral deep dive) you bitched and got super defensive / personal, used dead end statements and didn't even respond to what they were saying most of the times. Glad I am not the only one who is not bothering with bearweave. I did not even try to parse, am in a dad guild and got plenty top 100 parses this week without hysteria. Bearweaving is a dumb meme and the dps gained from it is at best statistically insignificant. A feral is better off focusing on maximizing bleed/savage roar uptime and ferocious bites while stacking hysterias than trying this silly idea. -t math nerd and feral since 08

Hey rugs, I’m really sorry about all this unnecessary flame you get when it’s clear you just want to enjoy the game and this is how you think it’s best played. I agree completely with your main logic which is that everything these discords do is based off a 3min patchwerk sim. I think in those conditions it’s undeniably that bearweaving is technically the best by 5% or so, but if you look at the spread of bosses in nax, only a few meet it. In general, the flexibility of extra CP, the risk of spending an omen proc on a bear ability and the general higher variance of higher crit seems very valid and the results show. I do think there is a lot of useful points that come out of the discussions regarding bearweaving but when ppl are literally being toxic to you over it it’s just ridiculous. It’s 5% gains in ideal scenarios for way more head scratching. I’ll still bearweave on patchwerk sure but getting riled up about how you setup your character… nope.

Dont misunderstand me, since I do agree with much of what you say quite often. But entering a raid super early and clearing it as you said second in NA =/= you as #1 Feral when 99.9% of the Feral pop did not get a swing at it yet. This is also clearly stated by your "Rank" on the side after first week which puts you at a still very good top 200. Its too early to flex on ranks imo, especially since most of the fights are too short and usually who crits more wins. I think down the line BW will be a bit more dmg... but honestly I agree, you can still do VERY very good even if you ignore. Most of these things like BW, Str gems etc is such a small dps gain that it makes close to no difference as you cant control crit. Still grats, and no hate meant. p.s. I also think rank 1 chasing (At least for Cat) is a bit pointless. Because Asians cheat logs. And you cant really do the dmg they are showing, at least not in TBC where always the first top 10 players were doing like 2k more than was possible even in full bis w/ everyone giving all the support to you.

In my small experience so far with bearweaving, it can sometimes cause you to rip threat from say a paladin. I ripped threat with just 2 lacerates after I completed opener rotation on os 10m 1d and had to sit in bear form for a little bit just so I didn't die until the tank could reestablish threat on Sarth.

What people need to understand about bear weaving is that your adding a lot of off pieces and gems and a 20k trinket for a very small dps gain on single target. Eventually when you get gear that single target dps gap is going to be so small, rng from crit is going to overcome the gap unless the agi feral gets terrible crit luck. No one cares about your average dps and consistency in a race or on logs

@@trickdaemon telling people bear weaving should be a dps increase through ICC, when getting lucky crits in mono cat in naxx will out dps perfect bear weaving on a 3 minute patchwork sim is disingenuous. What they should have said was bear weaving is more consistent and on average gives more single target dps in prepatch gear. Anything else was speculation.

@@bobbybright3809 We are playing the game, the gap is just not that big. First you need to play well like Rugs dsoes where you don't let rip or sr fall off like a lot of ferals do, then in your downtime windows (which cannot be avoided, you will always run out of energy) you can bear for extra damage. It's extremely easy and trivialized once you do it over and over again. Rugs has a really good guild that is better than most, so posting these early parses is disingenuous. You don't NEED to do anything, it's just slightly more damage to not sit around waiting for energy doing nothing. Also happens to be more fun, since waiting around is boring. IMO

The resident Feral in my guild got a 100 parse today, which was nice. Not sure if she was Bearweaving or not. Sadly she was still quite far down the damage meters because Feral isn't quite ready to pop off yet it seems. Either that or Assassination Rogues are just that batshit crazy.

A sim is only as good as the numbers it assumed, bear weaving doesn't sim ahead in any fight that isn't a 3 min patchwerk 3 man and nerfs your AOE. If sims were a magical tool we would still be using the ones from years ago, just because someone made a new sim off information on Pservers does not make it good.

On the deepdive they said outright that that the sim was only ahead in a 3 min patchwerk and didn't keep up in aoe due to everything being gemmed for strength instead of AGI. They also admitted that the 5% increase if bearweaving was easily within the margin of error of the sim.

4 Days later hes nowhere to be seen on the leaderboard and getting outclassed by all the bearweavers 😅 its just not true, ofc you can clear all raids with no bearweaving. But for some people performing well in parses is part of the fun in playing a sub par specc so you have to look at them diffrent. Ofc you dont have to but if you wanna outperform other dps speccs you sure have to bearweave
