Nice to have when wet sanding but buffing? I've high-speed buffed many cars clear coat and straight color no problems .Just watch your edges and high creases. You know in these areas, they tend to be a little thinner.

Had one for two years now I wouldn’t do a job without it also a great insurance towards people who know they have a defect and they’re just trying to con you so this metre does not lie or at least make sure aware of problems

Hey, Jason! I just bought one of these gauges after watching your video. I love it, its very user friendly, and the extra features in the app are amazing. I wanted to ask, have you guys compared the accuracy of this device against other devices? I saw someone putting them up against a couple of other gauges, and the nexdiag consistantly showed 15-25 microns lower readings when measured in the same spots. Do you have any thoughts on this?

As paint technology advances the clear coat will get thinner. In a few years it will be around .5 mils to 1 mil

Forgive the ignorance, new to the detail world. Is it bad to polish on a repainted panel? I am just curious because if it shows a higher density wouldn’t that be better or is the body shop paint less dense? Also, would you recommend this one for an enthusiast and not a professional? I don't understand how you determine how much clear coat there is left. The total measurement could be 4 and you have zero clearcoat. Not sure this is helpful. Can you explain?

I've done paint correction for over 30 year's. We never had any cool tools to help us, just our eyes. I get up close to the paint and look at paint thickness from an angle....less material thickness can be observed. When paint gets thin, you notice a reduction i gloss just before burning through. There's also the "spittle test" for testing how deep scratches are to know if you can polish them out. If you smear a little spit on the paint, and the white scratch goes away....you can polish it out. Only exception is 3 stage paint where you can't differentiate between dyed clear and clear, it's just a gamble. As long as you aren't getting one spot really hot and getting a "paint slip" burn where the plastic paint and plastic bumper gets too hot, then the paint suddenly slips across the buper like a person on ice. These types of burn throughs are mostly on plastic because it doesn't dissipate heat as well as steel or aluminum.
