How many pocket notebooks do you have? Or better yet, how many have you used up already?

I don’t know how many I have, but I have worked my way through a few thin ones (like passport size) as EDCs over the years and this year I’ve nearly worked though a pocket Moleskine that I carry around everywhere. But that’s bc I’m forgetful and need to write stuff down!…hahaha…I’ve been influenced to buy many other pieces of stationery though, especially planners around this time of year…

@ I have definitely taken more notes carrying around a pocket notebook but not sure it’s really me to have it on me all the time 😅 I’m glad your pocket moleskine is working for you. There’s definitely a satisfaction in finishing up an insert or notebook! And oh yes my planner graveyard is full… 🤣 it’s tempting to want to try something new and cool but we can only use so many planners. I really have one only - everything else is a journal! Thanks for watching and commenting!

I'm a bullet journal method evangelist ^^ I don't mean these fancy art projects, I mean the original bullet journal method. It took me years to really build the habit (having ADHD makes habit building even more challenging than it already is), but this method did change my life. I just recently went from a5 down to a6, but the system stays the same. And I just carried my a5 notebook everywhere I went. Now I carry my pocket sized bullet journal even around the house, because every time I walk through a door, my working memory gets literally wiped clear and there's no way for me to remember something from kitchen to the living room.

@@marctestarossa Wow! Very impressive you have a system that works perfectly for you! It’s also great you could downsize because an a6 is definitely smaller to carry around at all times. I’m happy to hear it changed your life because I know it can be an amazing tool. Yay for analog systems and how something as simple as paper and pen can be so powerful and effective in changing lives! 👍 I agree it takes time to truly build a habit, so you really have to want it and keep working at it!

This is a trend that I actually wish I would see more and more of. People need to stop and think and connect with their own cognitive functioning throughout the day, and that includes looking inward (and think critically). I don't carry a pocket one per se, but I always am writing in some sort of notebook which helps me. This semester I handed out small notebooks to my students to do a semester-long Commonplace Book assignment, because current college students here don't handwrite or use physical books. The results have been interesting, most students are enthusiastic about it and I've seen them use the notebooks to brainstorm their research papers!

@@stationery.shenanigans oh what a cool project to get students more into analog! Yes, we are all so digital these days… and it’s always very fast paced - it makes me all jittery I think! Such a different feel from analog activities!

I've been journaling for more than 40 years now, and using a pocket notebook for better than 10 years. And Yes, I carry it everywhere. I jot down notes about what happens during the day, along with things I have to do, events that are coming up, and how I'm feeling both mentally and physically. Then at night, I can expand on those notes in my long form journal. It works well for me. And I don't plan on stopping doing it any time soon. And yes I agree, it may not be the thing for every one. There are no rules to journaling, do what make you happy and what helps you. Don't force yourself to do something you saw someone else do, just because it looks cool. Give it a try, but really examine if it's working the way you expected. Good Luck!

@@Ka7ple1 Wow! Thanks for sharing your experiences. I’m happy to hear how journaling can be so effective and certainly a long term, lifelong kind of thing. I sometimes have the issue of misplacing my notebook - doesn’t actually fit in my pocket 🤣 but you are so right that we have to find our own way/system that works.

@@tortagialla Thanks! I enjoy helping people find out if journaling is for them. There are so many different ways to capture your thoughts. I have tried a few, but always return to the "brain dump / long form". And keeping a notebook on me all the time, I don't forget important ideas or thoughts, cause if I wait I will forget. ;-) Oh I use a 3.5 x 5.5 notebook (Field Notes size) in a leather cover. It does fit in my back pocket. My main journal is an A5 size. I like to use fountain pens (I know... nerd) So I have to find ones that work with that ink. Take care, and thanks for the reply.
@tortagialla15 күн бұрын
@ The fountain pen hobby is definitely a slippery slope because then you do have to find the right paper 😅 I am very old school in that I can use even a stack of stapled paper, it’s to keep a log or notes so I don’t forget but i have to process everything at the end of day or week at my desk, or it gets out of hand. Good ‘ole ballpoint for me when it’s on the go 🤣

Your handwriting is really lovely! 😍 I used up so many little notebooks that I don't even want to count. For planning I need more space, but for journaling and random notes, it works really well for me. Bonus that they are so darn cute, and finishing them gives a good dose of dopamine! A sense of accomplishment. Sending lots of love from Budapest, Hungary ❤❤❤
@tortagialla17 күн бұрын
omg, thank you for your kind comment. i always think my handwriting is horrible! i'm inconsistent and messy, but i try sometimes to be as neat as possible so it can be read better LOL I'm so glad you use your notebooks, because it's sad when they are unused! It makes sense that the small notebook is great for random notes, little tidbits here and there that we don't want to forget. I also use smaller notebooks more for notes... then going up in size I would journal more long form probably in an a6 and sometimes a5 as well. Thanks for watching and commenting - with love from Italia!

Its the first time im trying out pocket notebook because I find some of my best ideas are lost throughout the day. I work in a very stimulating environment with lots of information coming at me from different people and my organisation culture is strongly rooted in learning. Sometimes i feel like the day flew past without me noticing anything and just clearing pieces of work, pocket notebook has helped greatly. I intend to continue using it on top of my work planner that simply stays in my bag after work. Thank you for your thoughful reminders, i enjoyed the video and its calm vibes.

My pocket notebook is... really useful, but not necessarily lifechanging. Digital note-keeping doesn't work for me (cos I am old, lol) so I regard my pocket notebook as my "inbox". It's a catch-all; grocery lists, quick math calculations, ideas, things coming up throughout the day that I need to remember. Some things get transferred into my planner or journal, some are just acted on and then discarded. It definitely helps. But it's not a thing for me to journal or plan my schedule in; I definitely need more space on the page for that. The main advantage of the pocket notebooks is that it's stopped me writing these notes on scraps of paper which I will inevitably lose.

I actually kinda dislike pocket notebooks. No real hate to them, but I always end up treating them just like my journal-but-for-when-I’m-out, which means sitting on the floor during a smoke break with the notebook in my lap. Something which ends up hurting at least half of my body So in the end I just ended up carrying my journal with me because it’s the same thing, and a pocket notebook still there in a pocket, but that in case I forget to take the journal
