I've learned one interesting and exciting thing during my English journey: when you learn a new word or phrase, you start to notice it everywhere - in videos, songs, conversations, etc. It was there all the time before, but now you understand it, it is a great feeling. So, even if you can't use it in your active vocabulary, as Ben said, you can understand people better.

I found your channel by chance while searching for advanced English content. I almost watched all of your videos on this channel, and some of your courses introductions on the website and I swear I am in love with ur channel and the videos u upload. Frankly speaking, you are incomparable. Occasionally, people aren't fair your channel approximately has 140 subscribers and some random guy streaming nonsense channel has more than 10 millions! We have to shed light on your channel. You are a LEGEND. Please keep your work up and never let us down. Upload more and more content about advanced vocabulary and grammar . I wish you were uploading your videos every day. God bless you ❤️❤️❤️

Yes! As you said in your first point, learning/using advanced vocabulary is essential because it helps you to express your idea concisely. This is especially important in school and work situations.

I totally agree, both with you and the commenter you quoted as well. I try to no more adjust my vocabulary downwards just because I think that some of the listeners might not know the word. And I never miss an opportunity to use a newly learned word, to root it better in my brain. Words are like a tools in your toolbox. Oh, and by the way: the third horrific idiom I recalled would be: to take a stab at sth. I hope this one will pass through YT algorithms.

Thanks Ben. I think I watched the KZbin video you mentioned. He made me feel disappointed when he said it's non worth learning a lot of advanced vocabulary. It is vital instead, for the reasons you have perfectly explained. I'm preparing for the C2, and I realised that it's an endless process. I will always find new vocabulary. On the one hand it's overwelming, on the other it's rewarding. ❤

Absolutely agree! Moreover, I could add a last reason: there are people, like me, that simply love learning new words! Learning new ways to express oneself, be it in your mother tongue or in a second one, is something that some people may simply like. Besides, I don't have anything against the person you quoted, but recently I've heard so many things of the type "you don't need to learn advanced vocabulary", "you don't need to learn pronunciation", "as far as other people can understand you is enough". And, I mean, yeah, if a basic communication is all that you are looking for and you are happy with it, go ahead, nobody has the right to tell you what level of proficiency you should have in a second language (not even in your first one). However, I feel that somehow, even if they don't aim doing it, those kind of ideas end up discouraging people of improving one ability such as speaking a new language the best you can, even though that skill can not only be useful in your profession, but also open your mind to new cultures and ways of thinking. Learning new words, idioms and ways to express yourself can widely affect the way you see the world, or at least that's how I personally feel when I learn them. Ultimately, I feel a sense of freedom and personal satisfaction with it, but maybe it's just me. Great video!!

First of all, congratulations! I would say your video is a thing of beauty. I enjoyed it very much. I could not agree with you more. One of the things I like the most was your recommendation about using the advanced vocabulary just when appropriate within the context and avoid to use it just to show off. Thank you a lot, Ben!!

As always, you are on the right track and besides you show to have a good feeling when it comes to judging other comments. The title of the eluded video was not very fortunate but if you deep into it you will find out that some things are absolutely true. Anyway, knowing that knowledge does not take place, who can refuse to learn more and better? To make a long story short, the key is to use the right voc at the appropriate time, and for that, it is required the more the better.

sorry to bother you but i'd like to ask you something that doesn't relate to topic (sorry for many words :D and thx beforehand): the thing is that I understand how past simple, past continious, past perfect work separately but when it comes to complex sentences it seems really complicated . They create quite abigious meanings I understand these ones: 1 I had studied before the phone rang ( 2nd action happend after 1st finished) 2 I was studying when the phone was ringing ( 2 parallels actions in past, i didn't pay attention to the phone) But i can't figure out wether the following right or not. it seems to me that they make no sense whatsoever and wrong. I've always thought that everything is ok with them but now that i am coming to think about it from perpective of logic it really drives me over the wall: 3 I was studying when the phone rang 4 I studied when the phone rang they both mean either 2 parallel actions or 1 finished action and then happened 2nd. Here are some explanation why i reckon so: I know that 3 means that the phone interrupted the first action but that looks like from now on they are happening simulteniosly hence "I was studying when the phone was ringing" would be more appropriate , would it? So practically it makes no sense to use past simple so it violates logic if you follow the logic of that past simple shows constant action but past continious shows temporary action On the other hand if the phone interrupted my studying that means that i stopped studying. thus it would be right to say "I had studied before the phone rang" , right? as for 4 it looks like it's interchangable with 2 cuz both have 2 actions that happened at the same time, isn't it? Otherwise it means that first when action happened then the second one so it's like 1st sentence. if it's interchangable with 2 then what's the reason use 4 ?? or it just describes the idea of reapeting actions as opossed to 4 where it was happening like smth temporary I suspect that i may be wrong and 3rd doesn't mean that action is completed . probably the same for 4 cuz that's to say that both of them may be supposed that action will be continied after that, for example : I have talked on the phone or have paid attention to it for some seconds and then have hanged up etc. But both 3 and 4 still look like the have the same meaning that 2nd sentense has. Hence, The question is: could you tell me if i'm right about these conclusions or not and if not then explain why?? 3,4 are correct in terms of grammar or not?? or it's not corrrect but it sounds ok to native speakers?
