Same here. I hang them up to air for a while before putting them away after wearing (outdoors when possible, inside out to prevent sun-fading) and wash them after a few wearings. I ALWAYS wash them inside out, on delicate, then hang to dry. The heat of a dryer damages spandex and will cause them to lose their stretch and become baggy. Probably not as important with classic 100% cotton jeans, but I do like the stretch, and premium denim brands aren’t cheap, so I take very good care of them and make them last.

I have worn the same jeans now for three years straight with out washing. Not only do they have amazing fade patterns and wear marks but also have that one of a kind arsehole odor that truly makes them unique to me. A top tip I would like to offer other raw denim enthusiasts is the use of a damp sponge applied in a dabbing motion (do not rub) to remove shart stains from the rear panel of your jeans. I have used this multiple times after the consumption of Indian meals and it had dames me from having to run my jeans through the washer.

I bought a Levis 501 one wash in October 2019. It's the really dark blue, heavy cotton version without any washing treatments. It smelled chemical when it arrived, so i washed it one time before the first wear. Since then i washed it never again, for 14 month now. It doesn't smell at all, it isn't dirty and you don't realize anything. The main reason why i do this is a much longer lifetime of the jeans. By washing a jeans for about 30 times a year, it looses more and more of it's cotton and thickness. With repairing it a few times i think it lasts 2 jears longer than my old 501. And i really love old worn jeans with visible character.

If someone does this anyways, they aren't trying to appeal to you in the first place if you don't "get it", they are trying to appeal to a certain crowd and it's not like you are actively doing something to get this look, you just wear 'em.

Remington Rojas "It's simply to make it look vintage and broken in, casual even." Thank you. As somebody who's gone months without washing their jeans. Its possible, if you don't sweat a lot down there, wash your balls, change your underwear daily and give your jeans time to dry and rest between wears. At the end of the day you are wearing a protective layer of clothing (your underwear) between your skin and your jeans, just like wearing a jacket over a tshirt or wearing socks and shoes. And yes, you have may have to wash jackets more often because of arm pit odor and you shoes may smell bad in the summer when you sweat a lot, but usually we don't wash or clean these things all that often. If you wanna get rid of dead skin cells, dust and other dirt on your clothing you can also use brush and gently brush it out of the fabric. That was a common practice men used to do to prolong the time they are able to wear their suits before dry cleaning became a thing, because you also don't wash suits after every wear. Bottom line is when it starts to develop an odor it's probably time to wash them and that time span is different for everybody, because some people sweat more than others, some people just sit in the office all day, while some basically work out in their jeans on their job. So just do a little sniff test and decide if it's time to wash them.

Unless you're paying an outrageous amount for jeans, I don't see what the big deal is about simply buying new jeans when your old ones get faded. People act as if jeans are family heirlooms! Geez, it's just another piece of clothing. Jeans aren't sacred. And frankly, I don't want my jeans to last forever because fashion styles change, body weight and size change, things change! People really should clean out their closets and get rid of old clothes that no longer fit or have gone out of style. That includes jeans.

Jeans have always been in style and a good amount of people don't get fatter over time, it's obviously not healthy. Sure, throw away cheap old clothes but if you have some designer stuff, just put it in an attic because it will retain it's value almost guaranteed even if it isn't vogue.

I'm new to RAW denim, but I have to say, I love my 14oz Naked&Famous jeans...I have a few pair which I rotate and so far it's been a couple of months and they don't smell any different without washing. I think some of that is because it's winter and I'm wearing long johns under them, so they aren't getting rank with sweat. By the time things warm up (or if I spill something on them) then of course I'll wash them. In fact, a friend of mine had a pair of Left Field jeans which he wore everyday and hadn't washed for a year-I was surprised because they didn't stink. We soaked them in ice cold water with a mild detergent for an hour. The soaking water was definitely dirty (but it didn't really bleed blue). It wasn't until we rinsed off the jeans with slightly warmer water to get rid of any left over soap, that the indigo bled a little. Afterwards, we hung them up in the shower to dry, and in the morning they looked good as new. I think the secret to not making raw denim fade is to use cold water, because the it's the soap that is the thing that cleans them.

Maybe if I am working on a multi-day task I will reuse the same pair and wash them later. Then again, I really do not care about fade patterns or how much blue there is. I tend to be more concerned with 'sharp thing not drawing blood' or 'keeping off stuff that takes forever to remove from skin' type functionality.

I've been doing landscaping work all summer with my naked and famous skinny guy raw denim in 90 degree weather. I've gotten ocean water, dirt, chlorine, mustard, and mayo all over them. Two things: 1. If you get a "stain" like a small mustard spot, it will go away over time, usually within a month. All my spots have vanished. 2. Spot treating (getting the stain immediately wet first then GENTLY wiping) goes a long way. Also, I say embrace the dirt that goes into your jeans. It'll help them age and break in. It tells your story, too. I PROBABLY should wash soon though… 🤔

I haven't washed my jeans in like a month or so, my trick is to leave the jeans hanging in my backyard in a way that the air makes the bad smells go away. After heavy use, I normally let it outside for about 2-3 days until using it for the smells to go away. If it gets something splilled on it then thats when I wash them.

I have a pair of 501 levis jeans that haven't been washed in about 1 year. They are a raw denim without elastane, which means that IF I wash them they have a tendency to shrink and they're not really meant to be washed often. they do not loose shape that jeans with elastane in them so I don't have to 'wash them to bring them back to shape'; so far I've left them out (inside out) in direct sunlight to kill germs and odour which seems to work fine. Honestly, they're not dirty at all still. But if the need arises to wash them I will do that.

I recommend to wash jeans regularly because they really get sweaty and uncomfortable inside after a couple time of wearing and get a bad smell because of sitting on unhygienic public places like bus, metro, benches, restaurant seats etc.

Hmm on my washing machine I have a 15 minute short cycle which is perfect for my jeans. Its not only how often you wash them but how long they are being rinsed through in the machine. My 15 minute cycle prevents wear. I dislike worn looks a bit and prefer to prolong life. I work 50 hours a week so I barely wear my jeans but sometimes you have to freshen up clothes. The video made a good point that it all depends. I may wash my jeans maybe every 10 days but I barely wear them anyway so a really short wash and hung dry for me is best. I have had my jeans for months and they still look brand new without the "worn" look. For me its something I want to avoid and just prolong the life of my clothing. T shirts and my other items of clothing are washed daily. It's only my jeans I refresh. If you want to prolong the life of jeans there is nothing wrong with short washes. It won't kill bacteria but most washes don't anyway unless you put them on a high temperature but for most clothes it would ruin them at anything above 40 degress (104 for americans). To start to kill bacteria you need at least an hour and a half at 60 ( 140 for americans) and if you did that to t shirts it would wreck them. For clothes its about smelling good and making them clean. This is probably why the guy mentioned in the video found no difference. If he washed at 60 degrees he probably would of found some difference and it also depends on other variables so I wouldn't take it as a proven science as it's more pseudo than anything else. Those concerned about bacteria though and do wash at low temperatures (like me) then if your washing machine has a maintenance option then use it at least once every two weeks. It puts the washing machine in a hot cycle to prevent bacteria and cross contamination onto other loads. Most peroples clothes still contain bacteria after washing and mixing loads with say tea towels and kids clothing increases it. However one fact you can look at is the bacteria on our skin we are pretty immune to anyway and it only becomes serious if someone has something like trachoma or a skin rash or soiled clothing. Most bacteria is actually pretty harmless (despite the headlines and fear mongers). Has an item of clothing made you sick? I say use common sense, do your best to stay clean.

Not washing your jeans would mean having to put up with the baggy knee and sagging seat area problems caused by sitting, bending and all of the other day to day impacts created. Also, if you want to minimise the dye fading, but want to maintain your own unique wear fade patterns that are being created, then wash, dry and iron them inside out. If your jeans do shrink lengthwise due to washing, right after they are washed and still wet, firmly stand on the bottom hem of each leg individually and very firmly stretch/pull up on them by the outer area of the waistband and the area where the inner leg seam meets the crotch. This won't lengthen them by miles, but you will get a good inch or two out of it. Another good idea is to do solely a jeans wash, where all jeans are washed together. This not only enables any escaping dye to blend with the other jeans but also eradicates the chance of any of this escaping dye staining other, more delicate garments.

You don't need to wash your jeans to kill off bacteria and or smell. Spray them with white vinegar, or cleaning vinegar, or febreeze. Or many other products and hang them dry. Not only did I go 16 months without washing my first pair of naked and famous jeans. I had complements on how fresh my jeans smelled. You can also spay them with a little essential oil and water mixture to scent them after the febreeze or vinegar treatment. Just make sure they are dry first before the sprits of essential oil/water mixture. My jeans smelled like orange blossom and I got lots of complements.

If your legs are dry like mine, then always yes. Even if I only wear them indoors and don’t sweat at all, the inside will be filled with fine dead skin after 3-5 wears. I can tell by putting on black socks before the pants… when they come through the bottom leg holes, they’ll be covered in fine white skin dust.

When I buy a new pair I wear them for a week then wash them in warm water once then cold water twice, Hang dry and from there on it's about once every few months. The old jeans (3+ years) get moved to work detail and if they need it I wash them. For the most part as they get really old (10+ years) things start to give. Like pockets, zippers, and belt loops and then it's time to get rid of them. Most people's weight changes and will cause them to have to replace there jeans way before they wear out so wash them how you want. My $.02 doesn't mean jack.

He’s talking about high end stuff. Most jeans come pre-washed so wash them after every 5-10 wears. For raw denim wait as long as you can. I have a couple pairs of Japanese raw denim I got in the spring and still haven’t washed them. But I’ve only worn them 5-6 times. It helps if you have a lot of jeans so you can rotate. There is a special soap you can get for raw denim

I have a pair of raw Nudie Jeans bought for $150 when they normally msrp for $300. They came with an instruction manual that said don't ever wash the jeans until you are certain you like the wear pattern and want to remove some of the dye. It explained how indigo works. They are awesome pants: very pliable and a nice dark indigo color that comes off when I have to clean the occasional spill off them. You are either brave or ignorant if you wash your raw denim

Wash or not, it depends on you. But there is no reasons not to wash. If it matters of natural fading, wear jean few months, after then wash it with cold water to keep the color. Dont wash raw denim pants in washing machines, theres possibility to make line on denim pants. Just do soaking for raw denim pants. After washing, it will be smaller. So when you buy raw denim pants, plz buy the one with one size up. Because it will be smaller after washing. If you wash raw denim pant in washing machine, wash alone, but recommend soaking for raw denim pants. Feel free wash medium or light color denim pants with other stuff. It is okay. So i usually do washing denim pants for natural looking.

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of washed jeans and the sons of raw jeans will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood. I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice. I have a dream that my four little jeans will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their fabric but by the content of their pockets. I have a dream today! I have a dream that one day, down in Alabama, with its vicious racists, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of "interposition" and "nullification" -- one day right there in Alabama little raw jeans and raw shorts will be able to join hands with little washed jeans and washed shorts as sisters and brothers. I have a dream today! I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, and every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight; "and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all fabrics shall see it together."
