Once I realized my that I needed to focus on my departure time rather than the actual time of the event I found I was much more successful at being on time and I actually was a lot more relaxed. Thank you, this is an excellent topic.

Do you have advice for how someone could share this video with you without you getting mad at them for sharing it? I'd like to share this with my sister, but I don't want a massive drama..... she is a TERRIBLE offender of being punctual. And it's just disregard for others mixed with I think she actually thrives on the adrenaline of being in a rush all the time. Maybe she has anxiety before seeing me, my mom and my husband.... she is a handful. And 52 years old!!!! Your comment is interesting and makes me think maybe we need to tell my sister when to leave rather than when a gathering is beginning.... 🤔

Same ! I always think please don’t think I’m being selfish , that’s not it ….. I try , I swear I do lol . I’m usually only 5 minutes late and I often text to let them know if it goes beyond 5 minutes late but I hate being late because I feel devastated if people think I’m being rude to them . I just want to say “ it’s not you , it’s me “ 😆…. Meaning I’m not trying to be rude to you my brain apparently can’t calculate time well unless I’m constantly looking at the clock …. And mean like every 5 to 10 minutes I have to look at the clock . I bought a wrist watch for this reason but I’ll take it off and lose it through out the day 🤦‍♀️

I HATE being late but it keeps happening 🤦‍♀️. Like someone on here said , it’s so stressful and you feel the adrenaline from that . I’ve never been thirty minutes late , I’d feel so terrible about that and if something happens to cause that I’d definitely text the person to let them know what’s going on . I keep running 5 minutes late or I stress myself out practically running to get where I need to be . It’s so stressful, I’m sweating and I swear people can pick up on how frazzled I feel once I get through the door. I really don’t feel it’s because I’m trying to be selfish, rude or inconsiderate but I know people see it that way so I practically give myself a heart attack lol , just trying to hurry and make up for my lack of time awareness. I don’t know why I can’t get it right . Sometimes I literally misread how much time I’m going to need to get somewhere , it seems it’s only been 5 minutes when it’s actually been 10 or I’ll be so busy taking care of the house and my kids needs that suddenly the time to start getting dressed to leave not only creeps up on me but it’s passed lol …. Then the stressful “get ready to go dance “ begins …. Ugh … I’m so tired of it . I often miss my kids bus and have to drive him to school . I hate that it could be affecting him negatively when that happens . He has adhd though and often his dawdling and getting sidetracked mixes with my lack of time awareness and there you have it …. Running to the bus stop 🤦‍♀️. I tell myself to be ready 15-30 minutes before we need to leave but I’m sooo exhausted. I don’t sleep well and I already set my alarm at 5 a.m. and I never seem to resist not hitting snooze . During the summer I’m late a lot less because I can get the sleep I need and I’m on my own schedule. But anyway…..hope all that doesn’t sound like excuses lol. It’s just what happens. I didn’t used to be late until I had kids lol and it’s not that having kids is the cause ….. I think it’s exhaustion brought on by not having enough support combined with the fact that I might be slightly adhd myself ?? …… who knows … I wish I could figure it out because I truly hate it .

I used to be late because i totally underestimated how long it took to be ready and leave the house, or I'd just have to empty the dishwasher, or put on a load of washing, or check the mail or whatever... And I'd also underestimate the dead time. So eg the train jouney is 20 minutes, I need to get the 8.35 to get there by 9. But Id not compute the time from the train station to the destination, even the stairs from the door up to the office, or being stuck behind a slow walker. Also I was (am) always so busy. But spiritual reading and studying is so important and often difficult to find time for. So now I leave much earlier and the extra time isn't dead or wasted time, it's an opportunity to read for 10 minutes while I'm waiting. And it's also much much less stressful and embarrassing.

I struggle some, but a lot of it has to do with having ADHD. It gets really stressful if I worry about being on time to everything, so I put in the large amount of effort to arrive on time selectively. Sometimes I am on time anyway. I can understand the need to be on time for scheduled events, however, when it comes to general socializing I don't really believe in being so strict with the clock. We live each hour at work by the clock. Do we really want to live that way at home too? Truth is that I have social anxiety. This causes me to either drag my feet or check and recheck whether I'm ready to leave until I end up late. If I have also worry about offending people on top of that , I'll just stay home. - I just try to spend my time with people who aren't so high maintenance.

After years and years of being late all the time, I've put some effort in trying to find out what could be the cause for such behaviour. It's not that I liked being late! It was stressful, humiliating, exhausting... I realized that I always waited for the last minute to get myself ready, most of the times behond what was reasonable. That forced me to hurry up, trying to emend the mistake I just had made. From an holistic perspective, I believe my problem was a light but cronical state of depression. I would take too much time convincing myself it was time to go because, ultimately, I didn't want to go in the first place. No matter what the destination was: school, work, dinners, family meetings, parties, medical appointments... Good thigs, bad things, you name it. The fact is that I always felt the need to force myself to go to any of these places. As I never tried to fix anything, I keep being late all the time till this very day (- . -)'

That sounds like sloth. I’ve struggled so much with the feeling like I should get out of bed, but I don’t know if I want to do anything today. What am I even going to do today? Have I done anything today? Prayer and psalms are said to neutralize the sin of Sloth because it puts us in the moment and presence of God. Sloth can’t stand diligence and rest after a long day. It only wants to have nonstop leisure, constant work, or unlimited opportunities for love/pleasure. This is why Sloth tends to be coupled most often with Lust and Gluttony because it uses the emptiness to fill a hole in your life.

I have this problem. Same thing… humiliated, feel horrible about it. I have confessed the sin of Sloth, lust and gluttony. So it lost its hold but I still have mindless eating bouts or days where I just don’t want to leave the house-so… now the war commences and I have to break the habits created by years of the deep depression and sadness. I am speaking with a counselor and praying to the Saints for help. It seems I do well and then something happens, an encounter, mishap, and I have to start over. I recognize God loves me. I’m now starting to approach distractions and internal judgements with scripture and prayer. I’ve learned that while traveling in this road to “perfection”, I can’t pay attention to what others think about me. I need to just focus on what God thinks of me and I trust Him to help me walk through this fire.

As a kid, we were always late to church, rushing out the door, etc. etc. I always hated it. My dad yelling at us to "move!" "Let's Go!" and it really impacted my enjoyment of church and was stressful and not fun. Now, I try and make a point to get to church 10 minutes early to relax, slow my breathing and be in the right frame of mind for church. I also don't understand people who seem in a rush to leave after mass is over. You get the sense that going to church is just a "box to check" on their to do lists.

Well, for me the issue is being 5 minutes late, not a half hour late. A lot of the time it happens because I am unfamiliar with a location I'm driving to or how to get there. I have a pretty bad spacial memory and have to be well-accustomed to driving a certain route, if I only drive somewhere once in a while I'm more likely to get confused. I'm also more likely to be late when the place I'm going to is nearby, ironically, because I tend to underestimate how long it will take me to get there. Another thing though, I disagree that there's "no excuse" not to text or call somebody when you're late. I try to avoid using my cell phone while driving unless I pull over first.

I don't think texting each other that you're going to be late is accountability. It actually "allows" the offender to continue the bad behavior. In this regard, I think technology has exacerbated the problem. People cancel at the last minute, too, because they can let you know, and that somehow makes it acceptable.

@@ColetteO_ Hi @colette sorry for the late reply, I have to warn you this will be a hard conversation, her feelings will get hurt regardless but , you can start off with "I love you very much" and you can give her maybe one example of her being late to something that was important to you but keep it short , and then you can ask her "Is the time you spend with me not important to you?" Or you could just say that last part only. There is unforseen circumstances sometimes involved which results in being late as such not always is the person 100% at fault. When it comes to the Lord's Day and other holy days of obligation Mass. The best thing is to be early than on-time but if you are running late It's better to arrive late than not arriving at all. Like I said there sometimes are unforeseeable circumstances. I've noticed that at churches they had reduced the number of Mass held per day likely as a result of attendance. I work 2nd shift on Saturdays and I have difficulty falling asleep when coming home. My Parish had a late morning Mass on Sundays but because of less people attending Mass the Parish now only offers an early morning Mass on Sundays which is why now I'm going to have to change Parishes.

@signat ... of course you can pray to God for a peaceful life. But don't forget to show your appreciation and thank God for the gifts you do get each day. However, please don't box yourself in so you feel God does not hear your prayer. Life cannot be peaceful or perfect for anyone all of the time ... even if you pray for it. Life is full of trials and tribulations... which molds us into the people we are. I find it helpful to pray to God to thank him for the good things that happened in my life in a day (not always perfect or what I would have asked for, but there is always something good I can appreciate all the same). I also find it comforting to ask God for strength to deal with problems/difficulties and guidance on making decisions... so I can make a good decision based on the information available at the time (which I accept will not always be the best or even a good decision in hindsight). God Bless
