I found this home that needs to be fixed up. Do you think anyone would buy it? Is there something wrong with the location? Does it need too much work? I want to know would you buy this property, or do you think it will stay on the market for a long time? Watch as I walk into it for the first time to see it. Check it out!

Not for 2.7....... You would have to put almost a milli into this to make it right with wiring, mold, water and room reconfigs. This is a total gut with the exception of the upstairs where work was started. This is also an old house, once you start knocking down walls there's no telling what you find. Can you say money pit?

It’s a teardown. It would take so much money to make the necessary improvements and who knows about the plumbing and electrical systems. The lot appears large, so that’s a plus. I’m sure it was very cool in its prime (just like me :), but it’s time to go. Thanks for taking us on a tour!

I thought I was being harsh, but that water damage is pretty serious. I have seen water damage that was addressed fairly quickly. They still had to mediate the affected areas, remove the drywall, replace the flooring, replace the ceiling, replace the built-ins, repair the plumbing and fix the electrical. Can’t imagine what it would cost to remove all the mold.

I can't believe the seller (and agent!) have left that standing water in the laundry and adjacent rooms! Im sure an inspection would reveal MUCH more but just from this video, at a minimum the house needs: Mold abatement, replace whole house electric, plumbing, HVAC, new flooring throughout, 2 total kitchen reno, multiple bathroom reno's. Wouldn't be surprised if roof needs replaced. That doesn’t even addresses the more cosmetic changes like paint and light fixtures. Plus, a very large lot full of overgrown trees, shrubs.

That house has flooded. The mold is scary: there's likely damage all inside the walls. I would never buy a house like this. I do like the lot, however: all those trees keep the house cool. Imagine trying to clean that tub in the black-squiggle-tile bathroom! You'd have to climb in it.

We did the walkthrough of our current house right after a rainstorm and found water leaking in two lower level spaces. Yikes! We got $5k escrow to address and, fortunately, only needed to do grading work outside to fix, and returned half of the escrowed funds to the seller. House has been dry since, over 25 years later.

The only house I've ever been in that had two kitchens on the main floor was a huge mansion, and it made sense. This house and the grounds are lovely from the outside, the inside lacks rhyme or reason. I don't know what the houses are going for in the area, but when I think about the water issue, the mold, the electrical system, getting rid of the doors on the 2nd floor, remolding the bathrooms, removing that 2nd kitchen, possibly redoing the deck and ramp outside, reconfiguring some rooms, it more than I would want to invest.

I would not consider this as an investment. Remember mold travels through the duct work which needs replaced or have a specialist to clean with special chemicals. Secondly 2 kitchens on 1st level might have been for a senior relative (mother in law suite) or usually a second kitchen is near the main kitchen which is considered a Spice Kitchen. A lot of interior construction and with the cost of labor, materials, permits etc at todays cost of living $200K would not cover much. The maintenance and upkeep of this house and property would be costly. Keep on looking!

There is NOWAY that is worth anything close to what they are asking. And there probably a lot of asbestos in there given it was built in the 1950's. Wow, I actually love the front view of the house, love the big trees, cozy feel. However, I could tell 100 things wrong with the house and maybe a tear down is better than doing an expensive rebuild. If doing a rebuild, some cities could build retaining walls for entrance to the neighborhood, I would apply for it for sound. Entryway with brick on the sides I would remove them to open it up. Carpet off the entryway remove it, mold, plumbing, electrical needs to be brought in to see if worth being all replaced. Could set up rooms to be rented out to students with private entrance if a college close by. Remove sliding glasses doors and a few windows that are not needed. I live in California where I wish I had a pool, but not sure how much a pool would be used in this area. When selling houses, aren’t they supposed to be selling ready this isn’t up to par to be even shown. Could be 750,000 to 1 mil to get it up and running. I hate to tear down houses but money wise may be not worth a rebuild.

Bro., I don't remember you saying the acreage. I think they're definitely asking too much. Total gut job. Everything has to come out. Doors, Windows, floors, Electrical, Plumbing. Deck needs to be redone and interior reconfigured. Re, basement, I'd dig up the floor to create good headroom. So it's gonna require at least 750k. Depending on location it could be a true 3 million dollar property. But definitely not at that existing sales price. I wouldn't pay any more than 1.350 mil for it.

It would make for a nice luxury house for a couple (or family because of the pool) if you did high end reno on the two story side. Then turn the other side into a rental unit to supplement the cost of the renovation and mortgage. Also turn that garage back into a garage. The entryway was wasted space but those extra windows in the entry looked nice from the outside.

Jonathan, I have seen enough to tell you, it is not a good investment. Unless beaucoup, beaucoup of money is thrown in to bring this house to today's buyers standards. Moreover, like the other houses you have shown, the traffic noise totally make the outdoors unusable. Except to go in and out of a car. You would be have to reconfigure the entire rooms layout. The mold issue by itself is a very costly issue to fix. Don't buy it. Look for a bettet deal. I am sure that the desulional owners want Fort Knox worth of cash for it.

step one inside tells the story, musty! (guaranteed mold somewhere). as with many of the 80s Mclean/GF area. standing water often damages the foundation. most in GF are teardowns and value is in the land & utility hookups. this one looks a little better but mold removal is not cheap (an RE friend of mine has cert mold/asbestos teams). looks like GW pkwy outside so maybe a new build if it goes high enough has Potomac view? new owner for this location (if 'coastal') will have money to burn so i would say teardown & save/clean the stones for reuse in the new home.

I don't know which scares me more, the mold or the sliding glass death doors on the 2nd floor. House appears to have good bones though. If I was growing a family and planned on staying in the house for a few decades to pass on to heirs then maybe. But asking price is delusional. How would you get a return on your investment?

Well, bro! this house feels like a multi-family, either a duplex or even a triplex to make it worth your while. Given all of the wings and the garage conversion, a pool and lots of outdoor space, this may have been an estate back in the day. I'm curious about the after repair value estimate if the list price is $2.6 mil. For that price or hopefully less, it only makes sense to make money with this property as multi-fam or air BnB.
