I am sure that Mr. Kennedy (who I certainly respect very much) has researched material concerning his questions very thoroughly while the nominees are not previously privvy to the questions asked and are thus open to the entire Judicial environment. If I were ever nominated for such a position, I would study my ass off for for at least 150 hours on general constitutional law, watch every one of Kennedy's grillings, and ask a colleague to try to trip me up. That would certainly be bad and it does happen on the left. However, I’m not convinced that these kinds of questions wouldn’t trip up many nominees. We would have to go through many past hearings and look at how nominees have answered. Some may be able to answer any question Kennedy could throw at them; others, maybe not, whether democrat or Republican. Trump nominated lots of people based on ideology and you cannot tell me they would have survived this kind of grilling unscathed.

This is something that I’ve noticed in many different industries lately. The old fogeys were required to know everything about their industry before they were allowed to climb any kind of corporate ladder. Meanwhile, nowadays, the new guys aren’t expected to be experts on anything or to know anything and are still allowed to hold high positions of power. I’m part of the new generation and I’m awed at how much I don’t know in comparison to the old guys and how little those in management care about what I do or don’t know. I feel like people are being coddled and society will collapse due to this.
