You have a wonderful way of making Sumo more fun and approachable- at least to me as a newcomer to Sumo (and never a "sports guy" before).

but before the radiator leaves...the radiator opines that it's great when Ura's mawashi matches the gyoji's robes.

Today has had many "How is it May already??" moments. But thinking about the ever-more-imminent basho helps turn the frown upside-down.

A big important thing about Monglian rikishi too is that the successful ones have typically come from families who've been involved with the bökh (Mongolian folk wrestling) world in one way or another.

I'm loving the new setup you got here! Also, I'm down for a mawashi video. Would be interesting to hear what you think about wrestlers like Ura and fairly recently Shonnanoumi wearing non traditional colors like pink at the behest of traditionalists. Ura got pushback from the hardliners but stuck to his guns and unfortunately Shonnanoumi caved in and went from wearing a cool looking hot pink mawashi to a subdued dark purple, almost black mawashi.

Not "new," just a different look for different eps. A lil change up from the "blue void."

It's both, I think? "As it extends across both sides of the Ural River, considered the dividing line separating Europe and Asia, Kazakhstan is one of only two landlocked countries in the world that has territory in two continents (the other is Azerbaijan)." - Wikipedia

Regarding the question if we will see the end of Mongolian dominance, I would say yes. But by that I don't mean Mongolian will stop playing a role in Sumo. I mean that in the future we will see strong Mongolian and Japanese wrestlers. Not like in the past where there were several Mongolian Yokozuna and no Japanese. Takerufuji will retire rather sooner than later and the Ozeki are 2:2 Japanese and Mongolian. And so far, the young hopes there are currently are all Japanese. So I see a Japanese comeback at the top.

I never understood the "one foreigner rule has backfired" position. If the rule was never established, yes, you'd probably have quite a few more mediocre / unremarkable foreign wrestlers, including Mongolians, and that would create less of an impression that "all the Mongols are uber strong", but I don't see why the Mongolians (and the handful of others) that did come through the rule would suddenly abstain from joining sumo, and so they would still dominate. Heck, there'd be more foreigners down the rank, so the impression would if anything be even stronger, and we might eve have seen the rise of an unexpected unpromising recrue à la Hakuho! I really don't see how the rule resulted in more foreigner (and especially Mongolian) domination in any way, shape or form.
