I’m sorry DJ if you’re watching this but you need to show both of them clearly the laws get them both to see and confirm they saw it then if they say differently afterwards you know they are lying. Someone with an intention to commit crime conducting reconnaissance with a drone would most likely launch & operate the drone a reasonable distance from the reconnaissance location, to avoid appearing on security cameras/other cameras in the immediate vicinity. Reconnaissance or “security” concerns are generally raised by the accuser when they want to disproportionally heighten the perceived risk of the behaviour, in order to make a power play, to stop someone doing something completely lawful, in an attempt to control & prevent the lawful activity of the drone operator.

The area at 19:00 you flew in front of are the old steam turbine outputs that I believe are now decommissioned and no longer feed the grid. The steam turbines were in the building behind them. They were fed from the boilers which is the building with the 4 square chimneys. The four round chimneys behind them are the bypass exhaust stacks for the gas turbines. The output for the gas turbines is towards the back of the site, that you can just see one of at around 20:46. The road you pointed out at 19:44 used to lead down to the Killingholme A site that I used to visit, but is now demolished. Now it just leads to the 400kV substation for the Uniper site and behind that, the new section is a further 400kV substation built after Killingholme A was demolished. What you do need to understand that whilst your drone is small and light it doesn't have to actually make direct contact with a 400kV system to cause a problem. If it did happen to fall whilst over a substation and passed close enough to a connection, it could stress the insulator and cause electrical faults. I appreciate that you didn't fly over the substation, but I have seen some drone pilots do it and it is an extremely dangerous and stupid thing to do.
@digitalradiohacker10 ай бұрын
By "extremely dangerous and stupid" do you mean 100% legal and absolutely not a problem? 400KV is either sufficiently spaced that scaffolding pole wouldn't cause a problem, or it is totally enclosed in inert gas (such as at the station to substation interconnects). "stress the insulator" No. I've dropped them 60ft or more and when they hit concrete they tend to go "penk" and bounce rather than shatter.

I’d be straight in to the police with a subject access request for the cops BWC footage and ask what their policy/intentions are regarding retaining the footage. The pc indirectly told you he was retaining your image/video ‘just in case’. Every force will have a policy for deleting footage that does not form part of a criminal enquiry. They don’t get to keep it ‘just in case’ Their data controller should have a policy that’s available for you to view. It’ll be called something like Data Retention SOP & Guidance

@derekmack10 ай бұрын
@@judithmatthews8460 that’s exactly why he should be making the request. If you end up on an intel database for doing a lawful activity you can request that data is deleted. Let’s say it’s LID (Leicester Intelligence Database) they have no lawful reason to hold onto his image. They could inadvertently enter details about his description, his bike, his clothing and his activities into LID and before you know it he’s a suspect in a theft because a crime occurred and the perpetrator had an orange bike … all because the pc held onto an image of someone carrying out a lawful activity. Whatever goes into a LID can be searched in genetically. He should ensure all that data is deleted

Police body cam footage is kept automatically for 30 days and is then automatically deleted. It requires a SAR or a criminal charge to be made for it to be kept. Until then nothing happens with the footage. It's a different issue with video or other intelligence gathered outside of an interaction. In such cases it can be passed on to other departments who are handling the situation such as a protest by a certain group of people.

Two staff members let themselves down once the police turned up. It went from a situation where they'll be letting their legal team to sort it out, to trying to get you done by the police while they were there. I mean, the police officers must see this kind of attitude from people trying to manipulate the situation like that all the time, and it must not look favourable for the company, or other staff members when they have to attend to the place next time for something serious. Still, nice police officers, working to patrol the area and just being a inquisitive about what's going on. Didn't push or try to take away your rights, and even informed you after the fact they recorded you with the car's video camera. I wonder how different things would have been if DJ hadn't have gone down to explain his actions prior and they'd started to question his actions :)

You should have pulled up the Police for saying "You've been caught on camera." The use of the term caught carries a large implication that you were doing something you shouldn't be doing or wouldn't like people to be aware of you doing. Obviously this was far from the case.
@k99ward10 ай бұрын
You handled that professionally DJ. The police patrol would dearly have liked to pull you in on some minor charge but they would be better employed pulling in the real criminals instead of just winking at the law. It’s a natural human reaction to look for an easy conviction.

What I DON'T understand s why the PC doesn't stop his car engine - for two reasons - 1. noise and 2. enviromental!
@ianhill45852 ай бұрын
There was an incident outside my place a few years ago,a narrow road, 2 police cars turned up,first one shut his engine off, great,-- no noise,a second pulls up,left his noisy diesel engine running for the best part of an hour, all i could hear through the window was" clack, clack, clack" for nearly an hour. My second gripe is emergency vehicles on blues and two's late at night or early in the morning , we don't want to hear "ne ner, ne ner" at 2 am in the morning. It's anti social and unnecessary...

A great example of why capturing interactions on camera is often a very good idea indeed. I do worry though that the CAA are looking to close down sub 250g drone use with ever more draconian laws and I wonder if they watch these auditor videos and they could be influencing them on future restrictions. Amazing how if your house is burgled, or your car is stolen, or when there’s an assault you are lucky to see a police officer, as it’s ‘crimed’ to get it off the books, but fly a 250g drone elicits an immediate police response. Something is seriously messed up somewhere. Watch out for the ‘Legal Team’ DJ😂

one power station made what did the security guard say 6 billion profit in one year, and the people that use their electricity are stuggling to keep the lights on, heat their homes, i know people that have to miss meals to pay for the electric and heating, of course this is down to the goverment not restricting the prices these companies can charge, where they used to put a cap on the amount they could increase their prices too, but now ( around 12-18 months ago ) the goverment lifted all caps, so these companies are making record breaking profits, the goverment is quids in with the extra tax's they get from their increased profits, while the everyday person stuggles, myself between electric and gas per day I am spending over £20 per day, more so when the weather is colder etc.

So to get down to the 'nitty gritty' as the English speakers pronounced it was to mix with the people downtown. The standard dictionaries are coy about this derivation." [The Guardian]

Here we see a good example of the police actively trying to help the company by finding good points to either arrest the person (DJ) and what else. The police are not helping DJ by telling the company that this is completely legal and telling the company that yes, this and that. I thought the police don't take sides and enforce the law as intended. Disgusting

"Nitty Gritty" has no racial connotations. It's clearly short for "Nit Picky" and "Getting Down to the Grit". It was too funny to hear the cop think it's racial.
@fearnpol493810 ай бұрын
Actually there are groups within the U.K. certainly in Scotland that have forced its usage to be questioned and police Scotland have given cautionary advice to their staff. In the USA it has already been claimed as racist due to zero evidence and people putting ‘nits’ and ‘grits’ the awful American dish together as something to do with detritus in slave ships. Ignoring the first recoded usage was in the 1930’s!!

You've figured out the best approach is to be upfront and civil and they can't figure you out! The security staff were reasonable in the circumstances and didn't do anything stupid, and similarly the police officer who turned up. So all in all, well done all concerned. No drama today.

The locals around killingholme in general are always pretty paranoid, I fly on the regular around there just for the weather shots and had a few people asking what i'm doing as though there's something suspicious about it. A local parish council had a discussion on drones a few years back and they immediately assumed the worst and needed explaining that there are laws existing in regards to their concerns and that drones are simply tools not an intent.
@three-phase56210 ай бұрын
The industrial estate is a high crime area around there and I do know of one site on there that was broken into after having a drone flown around the specific area. Didn't get away with much as it was too heavy for them to move it fast.
