The sauce is alignment between how you feel (or want to feel) on the inside and your appearance. You can’t think your way to the sauce, it’s a feeling.

Sitting on the train on my 2.5h commute, feeling like I'm dripping in The Sauce. 😂 Thank you for this! Yes, the sauce is ease, confidence and JOY in what you're wearing. I'm wearing voluminous trousers with that rushing (sp?) we all love, a low cut black tank and covering that with an H&MxMarni cashemere cardigan I've owned for 15 years and LOVE (no pilling on this fast fashion marvel from decades ago!😮). It's the comfort, the ease, the joy, and the sas of having a decollete hidden under the demure and oreppy 40yo mom cardigan 🤭

I love this topic! The sauce does come from confidence, but confidence can be multilayered (how you feel about what you’re wearing, how you feel about yourself, how comfortable you are with the people you’re with)-when they all come together, you see that.

Such an insightful comment! It’s why I always dither when I go to a bigger event where I don’t know many people, yet have so much fun dressing up,when it’s with a group I mostly know well.

What a topic! You all got the sauce by the way!! I am feeling so saucy these days and I think it's not just because I buy clothes that I love, but because of how I enhance it all with the ingredients like my accessories. It's like what Ms. Beltempo said "It's what you bring to the outfit" ❤😊

This is one of your top vlogs. I love the sauce and Alyssa's description of building a sauce. Also, you brought more of your connections to each other to the discussion. But every Tuesday is great

Ralph Lauren comes to mind. He wore a very old pair of distressed jeans and old loafers with a million dollar blazer, and he looked amazing.

I think the personality CAN make the sauce. It can change the look of the outfit if you’re more approachable and fun and full of energy etc. It becomes more noticed and loved 🥰 btw I see no judgement in this podcast. I take from it Sauce can be anything that tops your outfit off to make you feel good. Whether it’s an old sweatshirt you wear that reminds you of your mother who has passed away and makes you feel good to a new sweater that matches everything in your wardrobe and brightens your day to the blue jeans you wore the day you met your best friend or husband. To me , sauce makes you feel good. I never eat tortilla chips without my salsa 💃 It’s about who you are and what makes YOU feel good. Love the podcast

I think mixing and matching styles is a good way to have "sauce", or really going full on with what you really love. Also not matching too many pieces in your outfit: like belt and shoes and especially shoes and bag which really look too "forced". A good way is also to mix second hand with new. Having your hair a bit dishevelled "a la french girl", not too much make up, no perfect brows. Not having everything perfect in your look....

For me, the key to "sauce" is time, time to play with your wardrobe, yes, but also time at home when no-one is around to evaluate you. For example, I always wear a hoodie pulled up over my head when I am at home. It just feels so good 😄 Because of watching and learning from you three, I realized I could bridge the gap between my "comfy" clothes and my going-out "presentable" ones, so now I am incorporating a hoodie, slightly elevated, into my public looks. For me, this is SAUCE 🙂 Thanks for pointing us in the direction of our true selves - what you are doing is more than fashion. ❤

There's so much more personality in clothes that are worn compared to clothes that look and feel brand new - I wonder if this is why ripped jeans are so popular (and have been for a while)... people wanting the look of distressed beat-up clothing without wanting to put in the time and effort to get it there themselves. I think that, partly because clothing is so cheap and badly made, on the whole, these days that we've forgotten how to care for clothing, how to repair it and make it last. I can't remember whose channel I saw it one, but someone (most likely either Alyssa or Audrey Coyne) has a video discussing this, and shows a photo of King Charles while he was still Prince Charles, in a light grey suit that he's had for decades, that's got a visible repair to the pocket. If actual literal royalty can wear clothing that's been repaired, surely the rest of us can, too? It's especially worth repairing clothing that is well-made, that is made of good materials, because such clothing will take repairs better than something that's thin and tears easily, where the seams and hems are badly done. Isn't that acceptance of something that is old and worn-in and might be repaired... isn't that sauce? The beat-up leather jacket or worn and comfortable Converse... there's more character there than in something brand-new off the rack that hasn't settled to our shape and how we wear it - if a garment still has the size in it to give it the shop-floor crispness, no way is it going to be personal yet. My favourite yellow cashmere jumper has a small hole under the arm right where the seams are, and I want to repair it (properly) so that I can keep wearing that jumper because that jumper is so beautiful and cheerful and I feel great every time I wear it. (Which honestly is pretty good for something I saw on eBay for £25 'buy now'... I don't think I've ever clicked to buy something so fast! It's perfect, fits perfectly in my wardrobe and with my style and I absolutely love it.)

Carla rockmore is a very sophisticated fashion user. She's a professional designer (a jewellery designer)who can balance out shapes, texture, proportions, colour, era etc to create different looks, that work on her frame. Almost as dge would design a piece. I think she is in her own league. I think the 3 words work well for many people because it provides a frame to construct upon, and constraints so we don't get lost in the overwhelming possibilities. For me the sauce turns up when I'm wearing some favourite pieces, ones I wear frequently, and maybe I've added a twist, maybe something new or a new combination. I enjoy your podcasts, when I'm making art, its a super nice combination listening to you whilst being creative. Thanks!

I appreciate that you Ladies, put yourselves on the spot to discuss this topic and it is very raw and real. It is so nice to see how Alyssa's thought process, most especially when she realized the analogy of tomato sauce LOL (it is onthe spot). It nice to see how Cina explained Christina sauce is when she doubted herself (Christina, that a crazy thought. I follow you because of your sauce, period). This topic is an eye opening that having a sauce is not just having the 3 word personality, or beeing polished, but it's everything about you and your confidence.

You 3 ladies are some of my favorite fashion influencers. Along with many others you have recommended having basics as a foundation in your wardrobe. For example a button down shirt,a nice fitting pair of jeans, a stripe shirt, mariniere, blazer, black trousers, etc typically around 14 basic pieces that have been recommended by influencers. Having all these basics in our wardrobe would you ladies consider doing something fun like styling these basics into different city style aesthetics. I personally have in my head that certain countries and cities have an overall elegant style aesthetic. For example New York City cool city chic, California airy beachy chic, Tokyo modest chic, Germany edgy rockstar chic, England Country chic, and of course French girl chic and Scandinavian chic which I think of as simple chic. Of course it’s a total over generalization of style in these places but I thought it would be interesting and fun to see how our wardrobe basics could be styled to embody these various style aesthetics. Thank you 😊

This was a fab episode, love the sauce analogy. It's nice to here the worn vs pristine thoughts. It's certainly felt that there is a pressure to look pristine and an ideology to do so which comes over in media and content. But in reality were a lot more than that and seeing more real is so much more refreshing. I can relate to feeling like I have the sauce sometimes and then not at times maybe that's a feeling or maybe how I think I look. Lady's you all have the sauce! Love Alyssa's 'risk' of dressing as yourself and building the sauce, you can buy sauce but it tastes better home crafted. Refreshing.

I feel people view ''style'' like the beige house (go view the financial diet YT video talking about the beige house/décor) and it do explain why people like minimalist because we get feed consistently a look that please everyone, like the mannequin in the store they are not showing personal style they showing an outfit that will appeal to the masses. Influencers are dressing to appeal to the masses because they want to sell. So people having the ''sauce'' want to appeal to themself and not the masses, they have no pretension to be an ad

I love how you can look at it like making a real sause! Even if we buy exactly the same ingrediens when we start cooking then we take our experience and use it together with things we already have at home. And all the times you have made it before, your experience in the kitchen and what tools you use the sause can be a success or just taste like a store bought nothingness. And Christina you have soo much sause in lots of your outfits. Moore than once that I think you totally nailed it! 👌

Honestly in my eyes, Sienna Miller is an epitome of sauce in outfits! Great conversation, ladies 🎉 I do strive for sauce daily but my outfits are very very basic... So at least some personal touches like jewelery, worn shoes... And I am read head so I guess it gives a little something too.

I think what "sauce" means in this case is "sprezzatura". In my opinion, sprezzatura can apply to both men and women.
@KurlyKy20 күн бұрын
I feel like the “sauce” is holistic harmony. Composed of both technical and intangible components. The technical harmonic aspects are things like colour harmony/theory, body type harmony, proportion harmony, etc. I suppose those are the “ingredients”-the tomatoes and such. But then there is the intangible harmonic aspects like your personal style/essence, confidence, sentimental pieces, how you want to feel/portray yourself that day, etc. Essentially, the “love” that goes into the sauce that makes people instantly recognize that it’s THAT person’s sauce. Technically can help form the base of the sauce (ie. the raw ingredients), but intangible makes it YOUR sauce. And together, there is harmony that is perceptible to yourself and others.

This was a really good episode, gang! Lots of food for thought and relatable moments. For me, "the sauce" is when you add something personal to an otherwise common outfit. An antique bracelet, undone hair with a structured 'fit... That said, the sauce is hard to articulate. But if you catch yourself feeling like you've achieved it, it's an opportunity to ask how/why, then hopefully replicate!

I think the sauce is there when somehow the outfit matches the personality or the demeanor of the wearer, or at least when it matches how he/she wants to communicate using the outfit. I would always wear black, but there was one time when I went out with friends and I wore this cute black top with laces and mesh sleeves (lowkey vintage style). When I looked at the pictures, I didn't feel like myself because the outfit lacked the edge. I even looked sick. It was too feminine for my usual style, and even if it was a simple outfit (the black top, straight leg cropped jeans, slingbacks and a black bag), I kinda felt frumpy. 😂 I would usually go slightly masculine to match my sharp features. Now I realize I could've just swapped my dainty shoes to a pair of black boots to "sauce" the outfit up 😂😂😂

As I understand it, sauce in this video is looking stylish, feeling like yourself (your best self?), obviously real-life wear (not posing/event wear; not just following trends/aesthetics/conventions; practical, comfortable & durable); not 60s/70s “ooh, you saucy little minx!” style camp/flirtation 😂. Durability is key because it links to the idea of a personal style uniform & how you want people to understand/remember you. Use any tools available to figure out your personal style: words, roots, body type, colour analysis, elements of style, mood boards, digital wardrobe apps, …. Then there’s the deep philosophical aspect of always having “you mess” - your individual essence. If you could sum up your (style) personality in 1 word or phrase, what would it be? Grape harvest is August-September & I think tomatoes are around the same time but as Alyssa said, different times in different climates/conditions.

This episode did not sound like you. Probably the fault of the prompt video. Your discussions typically are very supportive and elevating but this one came across as judging. May be a person only feels good when going out in everything new. We cannot know their past traumas or current environment.
