Hi! I suggest: Use the beams as points for the lights. You can choose something fancy or old style with chains to be held on the beams (warm light like candle) plus the ceiling will stay as it is now and no cables and lights will be on it. :)

Love the rustic look❤ There’s no need for another beam, if you’re worried about lighting I’d go with a wall lighting, two lights on the side of that door arch or even hanging on the faux beam you created to fill that gap. I mean I think it would be highlighting that nice wood on the ceiling and won’t take the attention away from it.

The wood starts to steam in the bark and in the heat, it starts to smell nice and that's something for wood-destroying insects. It is then the period when they start to put their offspring in the wood, and we can often find out about it only after many years already in the inhabited building.
