Why tape the ears? Traditionally, people cropped a Doberman’s ears to get them to stand up. Taping seems to be the opposite extreme, pulling them down. Why not just leave them as they naturally want to go?
@Buscitaro17 жыл бұрын
Ethan Lamoureux well cropped ears aren't naturally, Dobermanns have floppy ears. Ear cropping is also forbidden in Europe or rather Germany. I think floppy ears look even nicer than cropped ears. =)
@ethanlamoureux53067 жыл бұрын
Yasin Sari I agree! Leave them alone, they don’t need to lie flat or stand up straight.

How come nobody crops ears on a Beagle?
@suttagi5 жыл бұрын
@@ThatHuskyisCrazy because a straight eared beagle isn't the breed standard. in most countries to show a doberman their ears need to be cropped, if you try to show a natural eared doberman they are automatically disqualified.

taping the ears helps stop them from looking like bat wings 🦇 the cartilage hardens as they get older and can go into wacky shapes. i love natural ears, and there’s very little risk of infection as long as your a responsible owner and clean ears weekly. Taping helps keep the ears facing forward and involves no pain or discomfort (as it’s literally bandage tape. and they should hang like 2 little dorito chips ☺️

In my experience, natural ears typically do not need cleaned that frequently. I have not had issues with ear infections. Also- how the ears lay needs to be established during teething (4-6 months), and they do not go into wacky shapes as they become old.

But... why is it so important that their ears stay down? Can't you just let them be?
@gabbidurham6 жыл бұрын
Rebecka de Verdier Doberman ears don’t naturally stand up straight, people often get the ears cut and tape them on top of their head without any numbing medication

Because when you show a dog with natural ears they must sit in a certain way

@@privatechannelold2563 I am guessing that with natural ears there is too much floppy skin (or very soft cartilage) at the lengths, which will never be 'hardened' by training and thus inevitably weigh the ears down, in spite of taping.
@Deeman7453 жыл бұрын
It’s possible, but not popular, not recommended because (I assume )of injury purpose & completely outside the “standards”. But it IS possible. It has been done BUT the ears were HUGE, with a overload of goofy and only a touch of charm but not enough haha.

I posted my Doberman ears weekly with tampons which worked great.The cotton protected his ear canal and the plastic kept the ears trained up.I took them down every 4 days and cleaned his ear's & retaped.Both ear's turned out perfectly.
