Doberman puppy ear posting instructions

How to post / tape a Doberman puppy using backer rod method and GuardTex brand finger tape. Only after the ears are 100% healed can posting begin. Using incorrect tapes/materials or taping too tight can lead to sores, blisters and even ear death. Consult a seasoned taping/posting veteran for more tips or visit "Doberman Ear Taping Methods ' The Original"' on Facebook groups. the Facebook group also has materials lists and forums for help

Any tips on getting them to stop shacking their head and scratching at the ears. First tapping and my 11 week old girl keeps popping the post out at the bottom.

The blue is 'Guardtex' brand finger tape, the Zonas brand is by Johnson & Johnson

Is the outer fold of the ear at the bottom supposed to be taped to go around the post or straight out?

the natural fold is allowed to fold itself back and be taped that way

What would be the latest time in which a dobies ears can be posted if they were never posted since birth. I read that it is 6 months max before the cartilage hardens.

I have had ears stand that were just posted at 10 months old. Its takes a very regimented posting process but it can be done

Our Doberman puppy just got his ears cut on Nov. 1st. So we should only start posting AFTER they're healed and stitches are out? Will waiting affect the ears ability to stand as time goes on? What do you give for pain/calcium/etc?

Posting can only start after sutures are removed and every single bit is 100% healed. Being healed is the most important thing. Even if it takes an extra week or 2. I give nothing for pain agter the first 2 or 3 days after ghe initial surgery, as they are not uncomfortable in any way and i feed adult food and use SureGrow100 supplements to help with proper puppy growth. No supplements will speed the ear process. That is simply time and consistency.

Thanks for a great instructional video. We just picked up our 10 week old female yesterday from her ear crop. I’m going to take your advice and wait until we get the sutures out before I begin posting. The lady at the front desk said posting is not necessary (which I strongly disagree with), but I’ll be interested to see what they do in the next 10 days while we are waiting to take the sutures out. I do not expect them to just stand up perfectly on their own. You have an absolutely beautiful doberman! And calm natured as well.

usually 10 to 12 months old, for a female, a month after her first heat

Ours is now just about 10 weeks, last night was his 3rd post, others came out in less than 24 hours 😔☹️but I believe we did not get them deep enough in the ear bell and using backing rod and cutting at a 45 seemed to help. Try half posts and a donut collar, they are usually blue and can be found at the vet or pet store
