OMG! thanks for putting that urinating issue out there! My dobbie Laika is 2 1/2 yo and was spayed at little over 1 yo didn’t have an issue with her until 2 months ago, she started having incontince issues peeing in the floor, bed, couches and it happened when she was sleeping or when she is scared. Tomorrow I will take her to the vet since we first thought it was fear pee.

Our first doberman was completely potty trained as yours is, but also experienced urination issues and it was due to spay incontinence (started about the same time as Zeta, a few months after she was spayed). She was put on a medication DES (diethylstilboestrol) and she started out with a pill every day, then every other day and ended up that a pill every 4 days controlled the problem (we just had to find a medication schedule that helped with the problem so it took some adjusting). You should look up information about spay incontinence and what they can treat it with. I'm sure there is something that can help. What a pretty girl you have too

yes, agree, this was my immediate diagnosis when they mentioned her incontinence while sleeping and that she had been spayed. There are nerve endings that have been severed during the surgery (as happens in all surgeries) which send signals to her brain, that are currently not functioning, in time the nerves will grow back, and this problem will usually go away eventually, but medication maybe be necessary until this happens, and she gains control again of her bladder. Also limiting water intake especially leading up to nap times, and bed time, will help

My female Doberman has the same issue due to urinary incontinence! She began having this issue when she was about 5 years old and is now 10 years old. The only thing I have found that helps her is Proin. It’s been a godsend! She would get so embarrassed when she would wake up and find pee around her. She would jump up and go into panic mode! yep, the leaking thing can be helped with Proin. I started my doberman with 25 mg, but a year later had to move up to the 50mg dose. Annoying that the price of this med had gone up like 50% or more over the past year or so ordering online. I recently found out that I can get this prescription filled at costco cheaper than online sources I have come across.

I had the same issue after I had my Lady spayed. She was 8 months old Personally I think when she was spayed the muscle was damaged...the spinchter muscle was weakened. I took her to the veterinarian and she was prescribed a medication that tightened her spinchter muscle. She took the medication for 8 years? When she maxed out on the dosage MGs. I took her off the medication and decided to managed the leakage issue myself. The side effects were potentially too harsh, for me to continue her on them. What was surprising that Lady seemingly knew what was happening. I prepared two beds..with plastic and absorbent towels. Plastic next to the ceramic tile and the hardwood floors in her beds. A layer of plastic and then the absorbent towels. Each bed was made the same. I put one in the bedroom with me, and the other in the foyer in the front living area, so she could watch the outside. In the kitchen breakfast nook, I made a pallet for Lady with an absorbent bath sheet. I folded it so that it would be very soft and her urine would quickly absorb it. Lady loved to watch me while I was preparing foods. Where ever I instructed Lady where to lay down, she would do it As long as she could see me, she was cool. I only had to tell her once where to lay down. At age 8, she knew to do exactly what I told her to do. She was so loving and devoted to me, she obeyed me completely. In the daytime she laid in her bed in the front foyer. I had to change her bedding generally twice a day. At night she laid in her bed, in the bedroom, with me. When I was in the kitchen she should lay on the towel in the kitchen nook. When I wanted to share a treat, I knew she wanted to taste what I was cooking, I would place it in her special plastic bowl and give it to her. Once she finished it, she would bring the bowl back to me. She would not whine or beg for anything. She would come and stand. She simply expected to taste what I was preparing. Once I forgot to give her a taste of what I was preparing, she got up and came into the kitchen and barked at me. I said, "Lady, what is the matter, do you want to taste this...do you want your taste!" Her little tail began wagging profusely. She was telling me that she wanted her taste. I didn't make that mistake again. Once Lady adjusted to the resting and sleeping routines, she never attempted to get on the couch, lay in the floor where there was carpeting. She only laid on the floors with ceramic tiles and hardwoods. I made a solution of 1 part clorox, to 3 parts water, to spray the areas where she slept or laid down. If I would forget to freshen or refresh her bedding after she had leaked on it, she would stand at her bedding and whine and bark. She would be telling me that her bedding was dirty. If it didn't smell fresh, she would not lay down l. I did her laundry three times a week. I make sure that I put lemon texize in her laundry. She loved the fresh lemony scent. What was so important about our relationship is she wanted to always please me. She was uncannily protective of me as well. Therefore, I made her life very comfortable. Lady transitioned at age 12. It has been about two years now, I still miss my buddy. I have another Doberman, a male, and I can tell you he is no Lady. Completely different personalities. Yes! He possess the traditional Doberman attributes, but, he isn't my beloved Lady.

We experienced the same thing regarding our Dobie unintentional urinating. Went to numerous vet visits, they prescribed a medication to strengthen her muscles, thought maybe she was spayed too early, helped a little, took urine cultures, then our vet had us stick with urinary science diet, and we could no longer give her treats to train, her treat became ice cubes. We purchased a small countertop ice maker from Target. In all honesty, we were bummed, used treats to train, our Dobie was food motivated. But, sticking strictly with her food, nothing else, and her ice cubes helped immensely, there was the occasional leak, but far less than before. Unfortunately for us, our Dobie passed at 5 years old due to DCM. We currently have a one and a half year old Dobie who is super sweet, but like you,r family, she gets overly excited when she sees my granddaughter, who's 17, she wants to jump, nip a little, I'm correcting as soon as it happens, it's a work in progress on that issue. Good luck regarding the urinating issue.

Hey guys you're doing great!!! I am a doberman for lifer and I am now reaching my 60th year... the only advice that I could give you is perhaps change her nappy spot after she has had all her drink and she is tired maybe if she is in a spot not so comfy she will be more alert and able to wake up and feel that she has to pee I know you are monitoring her water intake which is great that is the only thing that comes to my head that I would try with my dog I wish you all the best all my support and I will keep watching oh one other thing... when your dog reaches 3 years old she will be a completely different dog it is like something snaps in their mind and all the sudden they become the perfect Doberman😍

When 'bed time' comes up. Always! take or allow your Dobermann (or make it a habit) to let her/him do a 5 - 10 minute run or walk perimeter check..through the back yard. it kinda sends a message...this is the '5' minute warning to urge a bladder break. I also say the same phrase - finish. Do not allow dog back into the house ...until you witness at least a #1 or even better, both a #1 and #2. The point of the ritual soon becomes a habit for the dog. Again, this becomes a prerequisite. "Last call"... I strongly suggest you actually do the walk around with your dog - but make sure to keep your distance, so the dog will focus on what you want it to do, You hit the big "3"... Verbal cue, Time cue and Routine of last walk around (surveillance cue). (as any Dobermann owner knows) - they hate getting wet, so - its best if you share the misery by actually walking with the dog - if the weather is rain, snow, etc. (I keep an umbrella by the door ...just in case)!

The incontinent issue is probably due to the spaying. I had two females who had been spayed before 1 year of age (at the suggestion of my vet and the breeder requirement) and they were both incontinent. They had some joint/bone issues too but I'll just focus on the incontinence. This will most likely be a lifelong issue for your pup. It was for both of mine. Your vet will probably suggest Proin which in my opinion is a cardiac death sentence for your dog. Avoid it if you can (but do your own research). The way I managed this was by covering all the furniture. Mattresses were covered with a waterproof mattress pad (washable). I made a sofa cover that had a waterproof backing so that when she leaked it wouldn't get on the sofa cushions. I eventually bought a sofa that had washable covers. One of my females had a major surgery at age 3 and was fecal incontinent for a period of time after that (not sure if it was related to the spay but...who knows? incontinence is incontinence right?). So happy that didn't last too long. I currently live with my fourth Doberman also a female. I was VERY lucky to find a breeder who did not require spaying or neutering. After 22 years of spay incontinence I decided not to spay this female. She's almost four. She's very healthy and she is NOT incontinent. Your pup is beautiful. Wish you the best.

Our dobie, now almost one-year-old, peed in her sleep as a young puppy until she was about six months-old. It was very mysterious and frustrating, because we'd never had a dog that did that. Vet said it could be a plumbing problem, and to just try and mitigate it as best we could, keep an eye on it. Eventually, she just sort of grew out of it. This was before spaying, and she hasn't had an accident since. Best of luck!

We’ve had two Dobermans with the urine leakage problems during sleep. Both of them were spayed at six months. I have since learned that you shouldn’t spay them until two years and that is what we are doing with our current Doberman. Apparently the organs are better developed at two and therefore the ueretha not as easy to nick during surgery. The other dobies were treated with daily medication that really helped with the leakage. Good luck.

My Dobie had incontinence after she got spade at 8 months. Apparently they shouldn’t be spade until age 2. Look in to a med called propalin. It’s for dog incontinence. I had her on it for her whole life and just had to increase the dosage every couple of years if she started to leak a little bit. Once on the meds I never had a major issue until she became geriatric, at which point it was full on incontinence. At night I had her she sleep on a canvas bed with a mesh center, so any pee would go through the mesh into a aluminum tray. Quick and easy to clean, just hose the bed and tray.

1 in 5 spayed dogs get this condition. After an exciting time outside or over stimulation they fall asleep. They have no control over the urination part when asleep. Try to build in a bit of time to wind down. I had this with my Dobie Zoe. Yep, it is a pain cleaning up afterwards, but it worked for me. Wind down time after a few weeks no problem. I also had her checked for a UTI and nothing. Also taking her out before sleep or nap, time to do what she needs to do helped. Good luck and preserver, she is a great dog.

My Doberman puppy took SO long to potty train. He was probably close to 6mths when he finally seemed to get the idea to go on the pads (house trained) but I realized it’s because he was so DISTRACTED playing he would forget to go potty or make it on time and would just go after jumping off the bed if he was playing on top. So after speaking with a trainer she said to take him after a bit of playtime even if he didn’t seem like he wanted to go and that finally helped! I wonder maybe if with Zeta she’s so sleepy or tired that she doesn’t go? So maybe wake her up in between naps? Like if she naps for 1 hour wake her up in 30mins?

Michael and Jackie, you did a great job for being first-time Doberman owners! Beautiful dog. It sounds Zeta is suffering from incontinence due to the lack of hormones from spaying. This is very common in some breeds and Dobermans are one of them. All female Dobermans I had suffered from it. It can occur weeks, month or years after spaying. My dogs took Incurin (a synthetic estrogen) or Proin (activates the sphincter muscle at the urethra to prevent leaking). One of my dogs took as little as one Proin every three days (you start on a different schedule and then taper down to whatever is effective) and another one had to take both meds daily to prevent issues (in her case it never got resolved a 100%). I suggest you discuss the best option for your case with your vet. Good luck!

One of my dobes did the pee while sleeping. It ended up being the start of degenerative myelopathy. I was told is not uncommon in Dobermans even though it’s not super prevalent. We have a doberman that is now 8 yrs of age... she also is spade and started with incontinence issues. Our vet indicated that spade females can become incontinent while sleeping due to the nerve and muscle control that could have been compromised during the spay operation. We tried numerous alternative herbal and plant based hormone supplements that unfortunately did not work. We then went to the Prion 74 , but be caution when using this medication it does have side effects. Our girl would become very anxious, panting, etc. I cut the pill in half and now give it once a day in the morning and all the side effects have subsided and the incontinence is now under control. (there has only be one or two accidents while on the medication but as you stated in your video allowing them to go out and air themselves after water consumption helps to tone down any accidents) Our girl is about 100 lbs and the half dose of the Prion seems to do the trick. I hope you find this helpful and if you decide to use this medication keep an eye out for any side effects.

My female doberman became reactive around 9 months old (she’s 11 months now), she’s super friendly to everyone off leash, but on leash she barks at dogs and people and anything else that moves. It came out of the sudden, we don’t really know what caused it. It’s not that bad anymore, as we’re training to distract her outside. Did anyone go through the same thing or know a solution or how we can train her to get rid of that behavior?

Urinating while asleep I found with one of my Dobie’s was affiliated with their Dog Food (Science Diet). A nephew had the same issue with his Siberian Husky . He Changed dry foods and corrected the problem. I’m not saying Science Diet is bad food....it’s just to Rich for some. I’ve used Science Diet with other dogs and had no problems. So maybe try that. We had gone thru 2 couches before changing foods. Good Luck !!!

I have a 8 mo old who also jumps up on me too much and am hoping it is better as she gets older. I see mine is like your dog in that she likes to have you hold her bone while she chews it away and that then become a very quick job. My Dobie a female is so quick at peeing when she wants that it took me 4 mos. To see her fast signs for her need. I block off the carpet rooms with boxes that are two ft high and have had great success for those areas which leaves tile floors easy to clean up if I happen to miss her cues. If a job is a mistake I show her the clean up towel and she is quick to agnowledge the mistake along with low key words and good words for encouragement for the outside jobs she will do.

The leakage while sleeping is very common after dogs get fixed. The vet says it has something to do with hormones, low estrogen I believe. The vet put our Dobie on Stilbestrol, started with 1 a week, still leaked abit, now on 2 pills a week, one on Monday, one on Thursday, problem fixed. Easy peasy. We do bloodwork once a year to make sure she's good go on the pills.

We got ours at 2.5yrs old. But leaving him homecor pinned up with his bed or without lead him to eating shoes, shoe string, bedding, and baseboards on the house. So we must make sure he EATS and has peed before even leaving for 30min. Now he can be left anywhere and not eat anything. He was very shutdown when trying to dissaplin or grab his collar to get to move out of the way. Anything "new" that isnt something we do at least 5 times in a row he will fight the activity. He doesnt like to eat out of his bowl either so he will touch his nose to the kibble and whine at me. I have to hand feed or put on the bed to eat. Not sure why. I had a prb of bed wetting with my german pincher where she was a baby but i stopped after 2 weeks. She had tapeworms everywhere and walking pneumonia. Once it was gone she was fine. So maybe tapeworm pill her (doesnt hurt them if they DONT show up in tests so better safe than sorry). They have diapers you can put on her before her nap time if not found. An internal ultra sound can show the urethra valve not completely shutting off so when it reaches a certain level she wil just drain. I have kidney disease and stones and have heard every story sitting in the waiting room. This requires to put a camera up inside whle they sleep and it wil show the duct open or close or stay open. It's a very quick surgery and very common in females accross ALL MAMALS. It has something to do with the formation of urethra in utero. That sounds like the prob. But could be the duct to the ureter or kidney or all 3. Strengthen the pelvic wall with squats is what humans can do to help. But always requires a surgery because it will get WORSE as she ages. Please dm me on insta if you need more info @ leslieslooks

Make it a habit to -Check your boundaries on a weekly basis. Never assume that your oh so expensive fence is dog proof. - Always praise good behaviour, especially outside of ' training. ' ( incidentally, this also works for cats, birds, children, spouses, neighbours, infact anything with a heartbeat. ) - Never ignore peeing in the house, especially when your dog is relaxed/asleep. This is a completely different problem from housetraining. Contact your vet. There are lots of different drugs to help with incontinence and if they brush it aside - find a different vet. We use Propalin, which is Phenylpropanolamine Hydrochloride 50mg/ml, and have been using it for years, with the appropriate vet testing to ensure that she remains healthy. - accept that training will be a life long process. Everyone wants an intelligent dog, until they live with one and then, all of a sudden it becomes a problem when the dog uses said intelligence to out wit the humans in their life. Good luck.

WOW.....I'm at that crossroads now with spaying my 21 month old Euro female. My breeder recommended waiting until at least 2 heats. I did. Now, after this potential problem, I'm a little worried. My last female 20 years ago never had this problem so I'm curious.....what appears to be the percentage of Dobes that get this malady after spaying? My girl was easy to house train and never has a problem...unless she gets sick. She has a great bladder for long durations but I can't imagine having to clean pee up every morning...especially since she likes to sleep in bed with us!

Hi. Thanks for the video. Spot on! Regarding her incontinence, this is an issue after spaying for some breeds, but don’t be distraught. I’ve had many. The one that had the biggest issue with this was one of the best Dobermans I’ve ever had. We simply put a diaper on her in the house. I know it sounds like OH NO, but your girl will feel so much better when she doesn’t think she’s disappointing you all the time. It’s not her fault. If she could fix it, she would. She can’t. But, you can make life easier for both of you by using a diaper. My girl was a very svelte, tall girl with very long legs and tiny butt. We found that women’s Depends size small worked better than bitches britches one other dog diapers, because of her length. It only took a day for her to adjust. She would literally turn around at get into position to get her “diapie” on. That was the command. Diapie :) I’ve had Dobermans since the 70’s. Yeah I’m old. I can’t imagine having any other breed. The incontinence issue is just something that goes along with having a spayed female. Not all, but they are more prone to it than other breeds of dogs. I’ve had both males and females, currently have both. Females are just a tad easier, in my opinion. I madly love both! Males can have health issues when neutered, but that’s a whole different topic and one you can research if you ever get a male. UC Davis has a labyrinth of research information on their website with a search tool. Good luck! Give the diaper only when inside a try. Our female wore one inside starting at age 3 (when she was spayed) She lived a happy active life for 13 years.

My female had this issue when she turned 5. If I had known then what i know now I wouldn't have spayed her for at least several years not the one heat cycle she went through. She was on low dose of Proin from age 5 until we lost her last year at 10 1/2. First she leaked slightly then it was when she slept. She couldn't help it. I hope that helps and I hope other female dobe owners reconsider spaying at a young age. My vet even tried to avoid it by letting her have one heat. My new female will not be spayed. Ever. After talking to more than just one breeder that both have been at it for decades...none of their females ever had this problem. None of their females developed cancer from not being spayed either. I'll just keep her away from in tact males and put her in a Suiticle when she is in heat. Twice a year is no biggie compared to being on a med the rest of her life. A medicine that we really do not know what other side affects could be caused.

I had peeing issues with my Doberman as well. Limiting water consumption and not leaving the water bowl around the house helped. In my house we have set times for water. Breakfast/ with water bowl out/limited. Lunch with water bowl out/limited. 6pm Dinner with water bowl out/limited. Last walk outside 8:30pm. Some people may not like that but in the wild water is scarce and food as well. Giving a dog a buffet removes the animal from its natural instinct. Dog perspective: why should I do anything if I know my water is out and food is given freely. Make that girl work for her food. 🥂. If it’s really hot outside or he is exercising a lot that day I give him more water. Other than that nothing else. I don’t give my dog water till full either because one thing I learned is a dog can eat and drink past fullness. Limiting his water worked beautifully. I also dont get my dog excited on first sight of me or when I arrive from work neither does my wife. I don’t even say anything. Good luck. 🥂 cheers.

Pumpkin seed oil stopped me from going at night.. wonder if it help a dog I know they can take it I think Female dogs who pee in their sleep are usually spayed females, ages 2 years and up. It happens due to a lack of estrogen, wonder if its hormones. I know it was before she was spayed of course they do have doggie diapers if nothing can be done. My female had to have them when she was 13 at the end of her life due to incontinence . Easier to change a diaper once a night than having to shampoo the couch

They need lots exercising and interacting. They will return that love, by caring and protecting you. The peeing = urinary continence is a known problem after spaying too young. Happened my first bitch. Luckily there is an easy fix. Medicate with an estrogen. The medication I gave was stiboestrol. She has spay incontinence!! It requires an ongoing medication. The valva opens while sleeping. It shouldn't be a source of frustration!!! It's a medical condition. It happened to mine before spaying. After spaying it got worse. If your vet doesn't know what med to give, find a new one. We dealt with it for 13 years. To use this as a frustration point is very upsetting. Sweet girl has ZERO knowledge it's happening. Please... please get another opinion. 🙏
