I would advise using a washable cloth instead of baby wipes for two reasons: 1. you don't know if the chemicals on wipes may irritate your dog (they'll lick their fur after, too) 2. wipes aren't re-usable and are made of plastic, making them an environmental hazard.

To help with our puppy’s “resource guarding” , we didn’t put our hand in the bowl. We held the bowl and fed him by hand. There were several nips we got at first because well, he believes he is always starving! However now, 7 yrs old, in the middle of eating I can call him over and he will stop eating to see what I want then I usually give him a small treat and send him right back to his food. Feeding by hand was tedious at first but it has paid off!! He won’t even get upset when my cat shows up to see what he has for dinner.

I think that chalk trick actually refers to boric acid chalk. Regular chalk isn't going to dissuade very many ants if any at all. But boric acid is sold in chalk form and would be effective at deterring them without putting the dog at any risk (21 years pest control)
@DobermanPlanet3 жыл бұрын
That's very interesting, Greg! Will have to do some more research on that and see if getting some boric acid chalk would work even better! Very good tip - thank you for sharing!

Good insight there John. Nyx loves the snow, but hates rain. She loves barking at people then turns to a suck once/if they come see her. Like you've said in the past, the pandemic has slowed her people socialization down a bit, but she's great with dogs and their owners at the dog parks. Cheers

As a family we have a Doberman and a medium-sized mongrel, and I've got to say I prefer the mongrel's laid-back temperament; the Dobe is very much THERE. @@zauberholz8357 I am considering getting a companion dog for my intact Doberman. But I am hesitant. He is well behaved inside - but another dog could distract him.
@zauberholz83573 жыл бұрын
@@raymonddeflaviis2306 Yes there are a lot of things to consider with two dogs! I think if you have another it works better if they're similar energy-wise. Our situation is complicated, as the Doberman belongs to my grandparents and she has run of the living room/kitchen, while my mongrel stays in this side of the house/my bedroom. Dobe is 7 months old, mongrel 4 years, and has been here longer. Dobe bullies mongrel so they can't be in the same room for long unfortunately! It's sad as she got on well with the last Dobie who died a couple of years ago aged 10.5yrs. Their energies were more balanced. I would recommend adopting an adult dog so you can see how they get on beforehand! One who can be an equal playmate for your Dobe, while not challenging him for food/toys/your attention etc. as he might get jealous.
@raymonddeflaviis23063 жыл бұрын
@@zauberholz8357 Thanks for the feedback. Sounds spot on from what I have observed when we bring his "girlfriend" over, for playdates. It's a lot more challenging owning an intact male. My life would be easier if I had him castrated, like so many do. But I am confirmed in keeping him intact. And yes, even at 7 months old, a male Doberman can be an asset for personal protection.
@zauberholz83573 жыл бұрын
@@raymonddeflaviis2306 A dog similar to his "girlfriend" would probably be a good match, then! I can imagine it is a challenge. For their health it's definitely better to wait until they're fully mature, especially for big breeds. Personally I think it's best left until after 2 years old, though it's still a controversial area. All show dogs are left intact, so it's clearly something that can be managed as long as the dog isn't left to roam! We just don't go to the park when our female is on heat.

My observation is he eats a few bits then he's good.. Same with my rottis. In fact, you may not agree with it but with my rottis I started just leaving the food bag open and they just eat when ever they want.. I wonder if some of these problems develop due to how the owner is feeding the dogs.. I'd like to have a conversation.. Just things I've encountered. My first time having a Doberman. I'm loving it.

@rolandasvainius34903 жыл бұрын
its not about the words you use, its about what you teach the dog to do and then add the word for command. our doberman is 1.4 yrs old and knows about 25 solid and maybe 5 more that are not so solid commands - all of them are just sounds, we just make sure the sounds doesnt sound familiar. the command we use to sit or lay down between our legs are "pro" and the second command is "tarp" to go between the legs but without staying, just for a trick.. these two comands took him 2-3 days/practices to learn. by the way, we dont speak english, so the commands can make no sense for the readers. in general the commands dont have to make sense, its just sounds for communication with your dog. wish you best of luck and the best of patience!

@DobermanPlanet3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for reaching out, Saanvi! That's a great question. Arlo is fed from the ground level, as you can see in some of the videos. The biggest argument against a raised food bowl is that it can cause bloat. Studies are inconclusive as to whether or not feeding from a raised food bowl actually increases chances of bloat (or doesn't affect it at all), but you can check out this video if you're wanting more details on that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kGa7coKHbcpgia8 (sources for that study are linked in the comments).

What do I do about my female Dobie that has taken a dislike to my daughters boyfriend? She snarled at first from her cage but today when out of the cage bit his hand when he reached down to speak to her.

First time Doberman owner, because i was at the right place at the right time. I rescued her. So I know nothing about her except that she's Doberman and I believe German Shepherd. What's the best food to keep her healthy

I really feel sorry for my doberman who I got a month ago. My father brought him home with very little knowledge about the breed . We don't know how to it train him or provide any exercise. 😔😕

Honestly I'd look up some dog trainers on KZbin. This channel will also be a lifesaver.

How do I get my Dobie to be crate trained? He will whine for hours until he is out. Been working on it and haven't seen any improvements. Thanks :)

I put mine in the crate, door open, gave her a treat, she went out. Put her back in, treat. Repeat. Then put her in, close door for a second, she was silent, I opened the door, treat. Repeat. Then I made duration of her being in there longer and longer ☺️ she now goes on her own and stays there to sleep
