Great upgrades. I especially like how you only flocked the secondary. A lot of people think you need to do the whole tube. That’s the biggest impact point,
@DobsonianPower3 жыл бұрын
Hi Garnett. Yes, although an 100% protostar flocking always benefit a newtonian, i would not flock the whole tube in a modern newtonian. This simple and inexpensive mod does the job and we can really notice that while observing. But first it's important to check any light leaks on the focuser with a torch. Many people would be surprised how much light intrusion happen in some focusers. Fortunately i've checked my new 8" and it's fine, no leaks, but in my 12" i had to fix it. Now it's fine.

@@DobsonianPower how do you check for a light leak? Any video on that?
Wow, some really useful tips. I've got an 8" F5 GSO (it''s quite similar to yours, I think must be same brand) and I think it could use some modifications like the ones you mention here. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Clear skies!

How about removal primary and secondary mirrors and painting the edges matte black and flocking the hole tube, you could also put in and dew cover to gave better views and keep stray light from the focuser and secondary mirror also check for stray light leaking at the focuser base, also don't forget the focuser tube you can paint that 2 matte black, clear skies mate.

Great video! Could you share the dimensions of the dovetail plate you used to attach the Telrad to the mount? I have been thinking of a triple mount for a while and seeing your video I will commit to it. Did you have to drill another hole in the standard Telrad mount to fit the 2nd screw or is 1 screw enough to hold it tight?

Thank you, Tiago. I like the way you simplify everything for the beginner. You are a good resource for someone starting from scratch. One thing I would like to request, could you do another collimation video? Your current one is very informative, but it is very long, and takes a long time to get to the actual collimation. You have gotten so good at the "short and sweet" videos that I think you'd be great at a quick-and-easy collimation video for total beginners. Thanks!
@DobsonianPower2 жыл бұрын
I may do that in the future but all my collimation only make sense to people that use the Concenter. My way to collimate is based on that simple tool, which i love. People that use all other tools have a bunch of other problems that i will not consider. That's why i didn't make that video yet.

Is it a good idea to upgrade the spring for the secondary mirror in a similar way as the upgrading the of springs for the primary mirror? Your tips have worked great with my 8" newtonian, thank you ever so much.
@DobsonianPower9 ай бұрын
I don't think so because the pressure the central knob does against it along with the 3 knobs is strong enough. I never had a secondary mirror shifting ftom it's position. The trick is to have them very well tightened.

Sometimes Amazon sellers update the links. That one is better than mine, doubles the power and has the same USB 5V DC 5V 9V 12V. The brand is the same although you may find another that works, this one it seems is out of stock now. Yes, i used duct tape to stick the magnets to the UPS.

ive read of ppl who install a smaller secondary, for improved contrast/more light. Any comments on this?
@DobsonianPower2 жыл бұрын
Yes i have. Only worth it if your secondary is too large. Usually is not. For ex.if i reduce my 8inch secondary i would have less light because it would cut too much the cone of light, it wouldn't catch all the light that come from the primary. Imagine a really tiny secondary, it makes less obstruction but also catch almost nothing. It should be the adequate measure, which almost it is in a new dobsonian. You check yours when collimating. If this still not very clear, ask me on live stream and i show you.
