I love this man's passion for astronomy, and astronomical gear. I'm a real newbie, and I find these videos invaluable. Tiago has an excellent manner of sharing the knowledge he has discovered, and I bet everyone watching/supporting his channel is grateful for sharing his knowledge. Anxious to upgrade from a Celestron Firstscope to an 8" Dobsonian. I'll be watching these videos all day long!

@@DobsonianPower I got it! It's an 8" OMCON 815D (the company used to be called OMICON), but I do not believe they are in business anymore. I am having a difficult time finding information on this telescope. Quite the learning curve to all of this! The reticle does not seem to be aligned very well...and I am not sure if this telescope needs to be collimated, but I may have to attempt that. I am super impressed with the Moon, but distant objects I have not really found yet. I have only had this for 3 days. All of my eyepieces are 1.25". Are 2" eyepieces much better? I think this focuser can support both 1.25" and 2". I have to have the focuser fully extended (100%), to get a clear focus on the Moon. Do you know if that is normal? I thought it was odd...but I am not even at the 'beginner' stage yet! I think I am at the 'lost' stage at the moment...but thank you so much for your reply, Tiago. If you could find time to send off another reply, I could sure use some advice on what I am facing on these questions. Be Good, and thanks again!!

@dwaynerobertson383 as long as it can reach focus it doesn't matter. I don't know that telescope but maybe this thread can help you: www.cloudynights.com/topic/763935-vintage-canadian-omcon/

@@DobsonianPower again, Thank You, Tiago! I had found that same thread a short time ago, but I am glad you sent this link to me. I did not write down the company owner's name, so I am going to see if I can locate him directly. I did see Jupiter/the red bands on Jupiter for the first time the other night!!, and 3 or 4 of it's moons of course. I was seriously impressed. It's a full moon right now, so I am looking forward to it passing, and dark skies so I can begin searching for deep sky objects...and I have not seen Saturn yet. The Orion constellation is well on it's way!! Looking forward to seeing that nebula! I decided to tackle collomation, without a manual. There are no set screws/locking screws for the primary mirror - only three screws to make adjustments. It was risky...but if I can see the red bands on Jupiter (on a hazy, cloudy night), my first attempt at collomation may not be so bad! The Telrad I adjusted last night. Glad I did not remove and relocate it on the OTA; all I had to do was use the 3 alignment screws on it to line up the bullseye with Jupiter (several tries), and i think I have it a lot more accurate than it was. That should help me locate Saturn a lot quicker, and with less frustration. Thanks so much for your assistance, and I wish you all the best. Peace!

It's easy to leave it on. The trick i use is to use a cap. That way when i forget to turn it off, after a while i see the cap on my desk and then i place it and turn it off. Works for me.

I appreciate your great work on these video's! I've learned a lot from you. I've looked through the comments and the web and don't see what I need. I have a new Telrad and a triple dovetail mount like you have and am not sure of the best way to attach a dovetail to the TELRAD. Do I need to drill through my new Telrad?
@DobsonianPower

No you don't. I have 2 small screws with a washer and a nut. Inserted from the bottom of the dovetail through that middle hole/space and then the telrad base. Nuts at the base top.

Is the point of the Telrad to allow a right angle on the finder, thus replacing the finder for finding with two eyes? Otherwise I'm strugglin to see why Telrad is 'so useful' .

I use a hair dryer or simply don't observe that night. This helps to delay, dew blanket: amzn.to/3oeDxRD This is how i protect my 12 inch or 8 inch Dobsonian Telescope from dew nights. It's to use when acclimating the telescope and to take off before start the observation

I put used batteries with low charge level in my Radiant, because with new batteries, the cirles are too bright for me even at the lowest setting. Plus I prefer AAA instead of AA batteries, because AAA is much easier to install/deinstall in its slot (I always store my radiant with batteries unloaded).

HI Tiago, great tip about the foam dew shield on the Telrad! I have the Radiant version, but to me it looks like the reticle is "too big", it cannot fit in the glass window. Is there something I do wrong or can it be adjusted?

Weird. Mine doesn't do that. Should be something inside with the wrong distance or so. Look inside to see if you find anything out of place.

Is there a bracket to attach my iphone to the trifinder mount? Thanks much for the video, I have a 8" dobsonian. Maybe I can use my apps to find object that are hard to find in my finder.

@DobsonianPower Жыл бұрын
If you can attach this amzn.to/3Yf7Kj1 to a dovetail like this amzn.to/3WU9E7U it may work. And if you buy one that rotates, more expensive, even better for adjustments like a finder scope.

My Telrad-brand unit actually uses 2x AA batteries! I think maybe the Rigel is the one that uses the lithium cell? (Or, maybe it has changed over the years?)
@DobsonianPower

You're right. I just checked my telrad to confirm. And i cut that part of the video. The confusion was because i was changing button cells of my Rigel, which unfortunately seems damaged. What a shame. I wanted to stick to my 6" virtuoso. Thanks for the warning 👍
