I’ll never forget watching the Red Wings in the early 1990’s with my dad on channel 50 and then PASS sports. It was always Mickey and Dave commentating those games. Dave was the best, that’s why he got the call to ESPN and went national. Miss you Dave...

I met Dave at the devils home game vs Tampa Bay on October 29th 2013 cause him and Brian Engblom were calling the game for NBCSN. it was during the first intermission that me, my mom and my ex fiance Anna were heading over towards the one food stand over by the tv area and Dave stopped by and greeted some of the fans and I was happy to be one of fans he greeted. I told him that I admired his work and that I wanted to be a hockey broadcaster one day cause I played on my high school team for two years and got injured to the point where I couldn't play anymore but knew all about the sport. I have a picture of the both of us somewhere in my files and when I find it I'm going to post it up. That was the best day of my life cause not only did henrique score a beautiful goal from Elias but jagr scored on an awesome breakaway and the devils held on to win the game 2-1.

I have so many great memories of games he did with Mickey in Detroit. I was sad when he left Detroit. He was truly one of the greats. He will be missed. May he rest in peace.

Such a wonderful play by play man!! I love his time here in Detroit. I loved hearing him on NBC (as much as I despise NBC). Those that have replaced him in Detroit cannot hold a candle to him. RIP Mr. Strader. You were wonderful to listen to, and I will always miss that.

I think I teared up a little while watching this. It doesn't feel like that long ago that I was listening to him announce the Capitals vs Leafs series. I didn't realize he was still fighting through cancer. What a guy. I wish the best to his family and friends.

Bobby T. I remember watching those three games of Caps-Leafs and Senators-Rangers game 3. I thought that he would be back for this season. In so many highlight videos he is the announcer. It’s sad that he’s gone.

I used to listen to him call games for the Adirondack Red Wings on the radio while I went to sleep as a kid. I feel like I just lost part of my childhood. RIP Mr. Strader.

I grew up in KC and wasn't really a hockey fan in my youth since we didn't have an NHL team. Few people know this, but we *did* have the Red Wings minor league affiliate team the Kansas City Redwings of the CHL (Now the Grand Rapids Griffins) for a couple years in the late 70s. But in the early 80's two brothers moved to my neighborhood and my school from Minnesota who were huge hockey fans in a hockey family and got us all on board. I'm not sure if it was because of the former affiliate team in KC or what reason, but Detroit would come to KC to play exhibition games at the old Kemper Arena and often against our cities cross state sports rivals, St. Louis. So I became a wings fan in the mid 80's and remained one ever since, even through life taking me to Hawaii for over 25 years after I joined the navy in 89. Dave Strader was the first play by play man in hockey I knew, Redwings or otherwise. I didn't get to see many games in those early days, having to rely on the early days of satellite or an occasional national broadcast. But I still saw Dave for years to come on ESPN or whoever was broadcasting the playoffs in the 90's and 2000's.

Late 80's on "Pass Sports" sitting on the living room floor in our run down house in Grand Rapids. I was using the old style sliding cable box going through the channels because I would always forget the number for that channel. As soon as I heard Dave's voice I knew it was a Wings game. His voice is so nostalgic for me. He will be greatly missed.

Was really fortune to have met Dave and spend a short time talking with him in a place called Garcia's Irish Pub in Buffalo the night before a Wings game there in 1989. He was very kind and gracious. He is missed.
