Great video Doc! I like the tool cart that you use I think I might get me one for my garage. I think I have most of those tools that I seen in your cart plus other special tools for Harley-Davidson from Jim’s Tools. The manual very important, I like having all three manuals. 1) The basic manual 2) Electrical manual 3) Parts manual The parts manual is very useful it has great parts breakdown views and all of the part numbers (P/N). Look up and write down your own P/N’s before you go to your dealer for parts helps speed things up at the parts counter just make your sure you got the correct P/N for your model from the manual, the manual probably covers several models. If the P/N has been superseded the person at the parts counter will know it. I also have two bike lifts (Dunwell) and several Snap-On torque wrench’s. 🤔 Now if I could only get more room in my garage!

A “kit” of tools usually covers automotive connectors. And they usually work well with older ( pre 2014) models. The newer the bike the smaller the pins. You only need a few factory supplied tools, the rest you can make with patience….Doc

Kevin there are so many makers of tools with prices that go from affordable to high end. Not every has contact with Snapon, Marco, Cornwell etc. I have views from all over the world. I did not think it was fair to post my choices in a professional shop vs a person working out of a car port that buys used or discount to get the job done. No endorsements for the money either here. The Net is wide open to get the tools you want or need at a price you can afford. For me, I owe I owe so off to work I go. Thanks ~ Doc

Every time they used the same hex nuts and left the original studs in the lower fork leg that holds the axle cap on. I would like to replace those studs. If I use two hex nuts as a jam nut will those studs back out or do I have a really good chance in snapping off the stud in the tapped hole. Any tricks or tips on this process..???

There are a lot of great tools on the market that won't break the bank. Stay off the tool trucks and look for brands like Tekton, Gear Wrench and Kincrome (if you are in Australia or the UK). Even the Harbor Freight Icon tools are good. For screwdrivers the German brands Witte and Wiha are the best. If you work on Japanese bikes then you'll need a JIS cross points (looks like a Phillips but it's not) from Vessel.

Any special tool(s) required for changing spark plugs and wires on M8 touring?

I have a video that I shared a tool for removing left side plug wires on all models. The right side might need the tank lifted depending on model. Thanks ~ Doc

@@LowCountryHarleyDavidson Thank you. Another question, do you recommend 6 or 12-point wrenches and sockets?
@LowCountryHarleyDavidson
@LowCountryHarleyDavidson 4 жыл бұрын
@@sirkingaling3525 In my humble opinion, 12 point is faster but 6 point is stronger. Less likely to come off and round edges. Thanks ~ Doc

I can only recommend a Factory Service Manual. It is the Bible for us techs. It was written by the people who build a Harley-Davidson. It is expensive, but worth every dollar. I always keep my eyes open for used manuals to purchase. I don’t have to be the one to take the cellophane off. Thanks ~ Doc
