Never read Doc Savage, but sounds pretty cool. I had heard of him but didn't realize how influential he was. Sounds like some of his DNA could be in Indiana Jones.

I could see that, especially with as many adventures that he goes on.

@@bigtechisbigbrother8690 oh absolutely. I knew of Doc somewhat in the past but if you start reading the stories you quickly go: “what did this NOT influence?!”

Lester Dent himself despised superheroes and thought that using super powers were "cheating" and lazy writing. Norvell Page who wrote The Spider novels, on the other hand, wrote a superhero novel for "Unknown" magazine called "Without Horns" an adversary who came without horns, either the musical ones or the devilish ones. It is well worth checking out. Ironically, I don't believe that this Page novel has ever been adapted into graphic novel form.

@@JamesELFERS I love characters who are super heroic without actual superpowers. Doc is like Superman but even more admirable in that sense, much the same as the way I feel about The Phantom and the pulp Shadow.

@@DamnFoolIdealisticCrusader when you say Phantom, are we talking about the guy in the purple suit or the phantom Detective??

I got into Doc Savage thanks to reading the first chapter of the Sanctum Reprint of The Red Spider ( #15 i believe) and also the movie and have been enjoying my journey ever since, i have a good handful of doc savage books at home, this being one of those volumes, i just got done with Chapter 1 last night and im wanting for more. But, due to my work schedule i dont get alot of time to read, except on weekends.

What about John Carter of the Burroughs novels he could bound but not fly. Then Raymond took that and When Worlds Collide and made Flash Gordon. I'm convinced both of those were an influence on Superman.

@@matthewgaudet4064 I think John Carter influenced most everything like Tarzan and other Burroughs characters.
