Batman Plagiarized the shadow, how people deny that is astounding

Hey Spencer -- thanks for the heads up on the Adventure House 10 books for $15 grab bag sale. It was so insanely cheap that I went back to the well and picked up another--only ended up with 4 duplicates. Here are the issues I ended up with: Operator #5 Purple Invasion Saga (4), Phantom Detective (2), High Seas Adventures (1), Green Lama (1), Ki-Gor, Jungle Lord (1), G-Man Dan Fowler (1), Captain Zero (2), Jim Anthony, Super Detective (1), Captain Future (1), Yank & 'Ector, Foreign Legionnaires (1) and finally Pulp Fictioneers, a book of authors' adventures in breaking into the pulps...whew! Not bad for 30 bucks. If you took advantage of the sale, I'd love to see a haul video!

@@davidosborn6714 awesome! I had wondered what would happen if I tried ordering another one. I didn’t know if it was just the same ones being sold or if it was completely random. It’s an insanely great deal and if they just made all of their old stock available this way, I’d probably buy all of them!!

The classic Batman the Animated Series episode :" Beware the Grey Ghost", features the titular Grey Ghost in a nod to a character inspired by the Shadow. If you do a Google search, you'll realize that the episode is a loose adaptation of DC Comics Batman # 253 from November 1973. This indeed solidifies The Shadow's influence on Batman. A more modern example of the Shadow's influence, is Disney Afternoon Classic 90s comedic superhero parody :Darkwing Duck!

@@davidarchibald449 that’s another reason why Grey Ghost is my favorite BTAS episode!

I think you should also check out Razorfist's videos on the Shadow. He's quite an entrepreneur of the material as well, especially the original pulp novels, radio show, and the Shadow Strikes comic books.

The shadow laugh at the end, hey at least you gave it a shot. 👍🏻 Props for that I could never do it justice I could probably do at least a possible Victor jory impression.

@@ghostwarrior3878 I can kinda do it but certainly not at the end of recording a video.😂

An excellent overview of the Shadow and his first appearance in pulp fiction. I'm looking forward to viewing more of them in future installments on your channel. Without question, all of the costumed super-hero realm as we currently know it owes a massive debt to the Master Of Darkness, as well as Zorro, Nick Carter, The Scarlet Pimpernel and even Dr. Syn, alias the Scarecrow. The Shadow has been and always will be one of my favorite fictional crime-smashers of all time, a very close second being of course the Great Detective, Sherlock Holmes. Although I'm not an avid collector of books related to the Shadow as such, (I do have all of the series in ebook format) I've noticed the Sanctum reprints are going for outrageous prices on Ebay. Ouch, it's not going to be an easy task to collect them. Again, I'm looking forward to viewing your future reviews of the Shadow's adventures battling gangdom's minions and super-fiends, as well.

Thank you! I've been devouring Shadow stories since finally getting more into the character and pulp reprints. I hope to someday read every novel and further explore the other characters/predecessors. Unfortunately the Sanctum volumes have indeed skyrocketed in price. I'll likely have to go the ebook route for the stories I don't have. I would've gotten vintage paperbacks but they're at collectible prices and the Sanctum versions are sometimes the only source for the complete text.

I did listen to Orson Welles radio Shadow. I'm also a fan of the old cover art for Pulp Magazines but I haven't read these.
@DamnFoolIdealisticCrusader2 ай бұрын
@@matthewgaudet4064 it’s a must! Just be prepared that the pulp Shadow is ENTIRELY different from the radio version. Eventually there was some influence on the pulp character due to the magazine editors but that was it.

Sorry for the random comment, but I really hope that you watch and post a review of the upcoming epic The Brutalist, as you did for Horizon. Over 3 hours long, directed and written by promising young director Brady Corbet (36 years old), I'm very interested in this historical epic set in the 50s following a character who's an Holocaust survivor, an architect's journey and the disillusionment with the american dream. It was shot in VistaVision, and it is being shown in 70mm. Aspect ratio is 1.66:1. People who have seen the film say that while it is flawed (mainly that the second half stumbles), it is a proper ambitious and thoughtful character study epic with fantastic cinematography that puts to shame films far more expensive than it (The Brutalist cost 6 million dollars) and that it feels like a relic of a by-gone age in the best way, a truly special cinematic achievement, especially in this day and age.

@DamnFoolIdealisticCrusader as you are a James Bond 007 experts aswell I wonder if you have already seen the 4K UHD of the classic Bond movies on Prime and what’s your opinion on it? Personally I was surprised by the quality of the 70’s Bond films and even upto mid 80’s ones and (slightly) disappointed by the 60’s ones that looked less impressive than how they look on Bluray and like they had artificial grain added.

Sadly these are the same outdated 4K SDR masters completed years ago that EON and MGM/Amazon refuse to release. They are thankfully much better than the terrible BDs but are in great need of being redone from scratch. Plus the original audio is not properly preserved and needs a complete overhaul on the first 16 films.

@@DamnFoolIdealisticCrusader these are still the 2006 Lowry digital restorations first used on the remastered DVD’s and later the Blu Rays?

@@DamnFoolIdealisticCrusader and what’s with the audio and what ‘s not original?
@DamnFoolIdealisticCrusader2 ай бұрын
@@pieterbalk-ht7kq some streaming services use the old HD masters with Lowry materials and others use the 4K SDR masters that are years old. The audio is all the terrible MiCasa Studios 5.1 remixes from 2005 for the mono films and problematic 5.1 upmixes of the Dolby Stereo films.
@pieterbalk-ht7kq2 ай бұрын
@@DamnFoolIdealisticCrusader ah ok so it’s the mix you don’t like. I also prefer to have the original mono soundtrack preserved but honestly, movies that have the mono on it, I never watch that way. And I doubt many people do. That being said I DO like my Stones and Beatles mono recordings. But for playing mono on vinyl properly you need a seperate stylus and cartridge. That won’t be necessary though with (digital) movies. I can live with the 5.1 mixes but the blu rays definitely need a new 4K master on disc. Let’s hope that will be done soon. Warner teased the Connery years on 4K recently in the official Warner 4K poll, so fingers crossed.
