Now I finally get that the closing bit from Buckaroo Banzai about "will return in BB against the World Crime League" was just a reference to this movie.

I grew up with Ron Ely as Tarzan and read many of the Doc Savage books in the late 70s and early 80s so thrilled by this movie. Still love it. Should and could be the next franchise movie. Difficult to bring this character into modern times with the modern technology today which were just science fiction in the 1920s. Difficult to offer another pre-WWII adventurer with comparisons to Indiana Jones.

Bry - as a native American, the funniest part to me is when the art director can't choose what type of 'Indians' are attacking Doc Savage. This is not me being some kind of scold - I legit LOVE that they tried to literally faithfully translate 30s pulp novels to the screen without being as racially wild as the original books were. Makes for a hysterical movie, sir. :)

I saw this originally when I was eight years old and I loved it. It feels like watching a Marvel comic book from the fifties or sixties, it’s over the top, action packed, funny, quirky, and nonsensical. In general it’s a fun B movie, I kinda wish a sequel was made but I understand why it wasn’t.

I've read a few of the Doc Savage stories and you are absolutely right, a lot of the times it's like...why are these guys even here because Doc can do everything! Also they get very silly. I think a while back they wanted to make a new Doc Savage with Dwayne Johnson in the title role.

Growing up in the 70s I remember watching Ron Ely every Saturday morning as Tarzan. I didn't really enjoy it but there were only three channels so I watched it pretty frequently. I'm not counting UHF channels.

This looks like a pilot movie so a CBS show that would follow Wonder Woman. And I think it would have been good as a TV show where you can develop the characters better.

this movie is greatly hilarious in the French dub : Savage VO is George Aminel, he was Sydney Poitier voice and Jame Earl Jones (yes Darth Vader himself) and also better known for his Looney Tunes Sylvester the Cat voice. for the dubbing, a lot of VO ad lib jokes and Aminel gave weird speech impediment to the Doc, which his hilarious when he gives his speech to Mona explaining why he remains single, to conclude by the now cult quote (at least in France) ""Mona, vous etes bath !" (Mona, you re the brick in the original).

I got the first Doc Savage bantam book for my 23rd birthday last year and I read the Thousand Head Man a earlier this year. Aside from some of the weird views on Race (they were sympathetic to Mayans but were horrendously racist against Eastern Asians), these books were fun to read!

Doc Savage has a sign that says 'Fortress of Solitude'. Which he hangs INSIDE THE FRIGGING IGLOO - (the Frigloo?) - and my questions are many. 1. Does he forget that it's the Fortress of Solitude when he's on the phone and needs a reminder, like a temp? 2. Why does the sign exist? He's the only one who knows it's the Fortress of Solitude, also no one ELSE IS GOING TO BE IN THE FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE!!!! Is the sign for his enemies benefit? 'No, I know - it's a big ass igloo, but you're in the right place -- yeah, turns out my secret base is basically a grampa's den and a lathe and a rocket that catches fish. My place in New York is WAY BETTER. You know what? I'll just put up a sign.'

Love the Doc Savage character, but this movie always frustrates me 😤 It doesn’t know what it wants to be, as it’s not serious, but it’s also not funny, not even in a campy way. It’s just… cornball. Which is _not_ how a movie based on this franchise’s decades of lore, great storytelling, and strong characters should have been handled ☹️ Thanks for covering it guys, now i don’t have to inflict this one on myself again for a while 😅 Edit - Seen It: Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow? Another somewhat disappointing pulp-inspired outing, but at least it’s better than this movie 😜

This movie reminded me the most of the Adam West Batman. An incredibly ridiculous plot played completely serious by everyone. But surprisingly way less funny considering it came out after the show ended.

17:29 “The real failure in this movie is writing." Yes, in that all of the writing was pure trash. The ideas were garbage, the story was stupid, and Doc Savage is a Dollar Tree version of Superman.
