My favorite early Arnold movie is _The Villain_ (1979). It's a Western comedy, directed by Hal Needham, that's basically a live-action Roadrunner cartoon. It was the first movie I ever saw on HBO, at my uncle's house in 1982, because my parents would never have paid for cable when you could watch TV for free. An amazing cast: Arnold plays Handsome Stranger (named for his father, you see), Kirk Douglas is the villain Cactus Jack, and Ann-Margret is the love interest Charming Jones. Also Paul Lynde (as a Native American!), Foster Brooks, Ruth Buzzi (Damsel in Distress), Jack Elam, and Strother Martin. Sadly, it is nowhere to be found these days, unless there's a copy on YT.

I only had one issue with Oppenheimer, and it was that they flubbed the big Trinity test. You have to get the scale of explosions just right in movies, especially for something as huge as a nuclear blast. Unfortunately, Trinity just looked like a big gasoline bomb, not a nuke. That one shot should have been CGI.

There is probably an inherent amount of sexism and racism, maybe some blackface, but not over the top? it's been a long time since I've seen one. The rest should hold up. I saw them when they were 30 years old and loved them. I was a kid though. They are classics and if Matt hasn't seen them he should watch one. One where Tarzan fights the Nazi's should make up for any other problems :)@@suedenim

Have you seen Spaceman? Mark and I just watched it and found the ending to be rather dull. Seemed like it was trying to be overwhelmingly symbolic, but it bored me. Max Richter couldn't save it for me. I also felt like Adam Sandler's character fell flat. He wasn't likeable or unlikable to me. I'd love to hear what you thought about it. Also saw that Matt Sloan was the special effects director. Great job - Those were very good. 😊

Have you guys seen Poor Things? I thought the world was one of the most beautifully stylized worlds that I have seen in a bit. Emma Stone was great and definitely deserved her Oscar for the role. I can see however how the premise in combination with the plot points could rub people the wrong way. I think the character's eloquence for one helps to make that less troublesome than it otherwise could have been. What do you guys think?

The plot of this movie is suspiciously similar to the first Thor. Like, a child things are out of order but it's pretty much beat for beat. Him being sent to the mortal world and having his powers taken away are one event in Thor but separate events here, otherwise it's almost the same movie.

I thought Oppenheimer was okay. Not great, but not best picture stuff either (I was rooting for The Holdovers). What I disliked the most about it was the editing. The first hour and a half felt like some continuous, hectic action movie trailer. Many movies nowadays try to capture our attention in this way, even when it isn't really appropriate for their subject matter. Though usually they find their proper pacing after 15-20 minutes.

I thought Oppenheimer fine. It was just okay. My main thing is, it was either too long or too short. It either needed to be two hours, cutting out basically everything that takes place after the bomb goes off. Its not needed. Or they could have made this thing like six hours long and included more stuff from the book. What it is right now is a bloated, incomplete story, but what it's going for is great! It confuses me that it swept the oscars.

Thank you Mat. Oppenheimer was highly, highly over rated. I didn't care at all about the Senate hearing, the conflict between Oppenheimer & the Matt Damon character was as stereotypical as you can get and it seemed like Nolan was stunt casting the other scientist . The film itself looked & sounded great, and I think it was well edited but beyond that it didn't nothing for me.
