If it's blowing hard and you are buy yourself loop the line over the post then bring it back to your cleat, you can retie after you dock.

I always teach people: 45 degrees into the dock, tie to the dock from the front, then steering wheel into the dock while putting the boat on reverse. If you have lateral thrusters, mainly use the outboard thrust to avoid too much forward movement.

New Yamaha owner here.... you're right, I did the tie off and reverse turn. Worked out very well. I used to do it with my I/O too but almost essential with a jet.

I've also found it very helpful to stow the bimini before docking if there's a lot of wind. Sometimes it acts as a sail that you have to work against.
