Just returned home from the local Ducati dealer. All I can say is 'WOW'!!! Pictures/videos don't do this beautiful machine justice... You have to see one in person to truly appreciate its magnificence! I was blown away to be honest (no I don't work for Ducati... wish I did!). The BMW R1200 GS is now out of the equasion. The MTS GT is the bike for me. Bring on spring!!! ;)

Amazing machine and it effortlessly doubles the speed limit and then some. That is one of the reasons why I traded my '13 Granturismo in on a Harley. Otherwise I wouldn't have my license today or would probably be dead by now. I couldn't imagine 16 hours in the stock seat, my ass was numb after an hour! I always left mine in sport cause it was such a rush and I liked the suspension on the softest setting for cruising, soaks up the bumps like riding on a cloud ... too bad the stock seat didn't feel the same, lol. I know exactly how hard it is to resist twisting it so stay safe and enjoy .... I miss mine, fastest bike I ever had.

Thanks for a great review, docman! I'm planning on buying an adventure touring bike next spring and the Ducati Multi is definitely a contender. Have you ridden it in the rain? What's the weather protection like? I'm also looking at the BMW R1200GSA and KTM 1190. Would also consider the Aprilia Caponord but there are no dealers near my home - I'm very close to GP Bikes and visit there often.
@docmanrides10 жыл бұрын
Hi David, thanks for stopping in. I just came back from a 2600 km trip with the Multi. I rode in torrential rain falls for hours last weekend and the bike was totally awesome and performed flawlessly. Traction control, abs and skyhook suspension kept me solid on the road. Rain protection is very good and the bags are all water tight. I highly recommend for you to try it out at Gp's and make your decision from there, they are all good bikes but for me the Ducati is a match made in heaven. Good luck on your quest!

Hi Docman1- really enjoyed your video. You say that in sports mode it will lift up in the 1st 3 gears. I don't have that impression with mine and want to make sure it has not lost any of its power due to a technical problem. Obviously I feel the fork go up, but not the front wheel. Do you accelerate all the way in each gear to feel that? Thx for helping me figure this out!
@docmanrides8 жыл бұрын
Hi Casey and thanks for your support. To answer your question, I don't think that your bike as lost any power over time. When in sports mode with the Ducati Traction Control turned off, your bike becomes a different beast and that's when the wheel takes flight. But you need to be very careful not to lose the bike. DTC is what is keeping your front end down. I hope this helps. Cheers

Still have mine, great bike. Put a Sargent Seat on mine and the butt pain is totally gone now. 500 mile days are now easy. The bike will actually carry more stuff than my BMW RT. Plus when it’s carrying that touring stuff it carries it better than the RT. I put on a throttle lock cruise control on the bar end and it is good for long droning rides now. I’m going to add electronic cruise this year. Build quality is ok but the BMW is better. The RT fairing is better but this bike is way good on dirt rocky roads. Not GS good but good enough.

Hi docmanrides1, I'm thinking about buying one of these what are your thought comparing this bike to the BMW R 1200 GS?
@docmanrides10 жыл бұрын
Thanks Fellipe! I love both the Ducati and the BMW. I believe that the GS has more edge off road and the Ducati shines in cornering at higher speeds on road. It truly depends on what you want to do. So if you are looking for more off road adventure type rides I would buy the BMW. But if you like sport touring in the mountains and love great acceleration like me, you will not regret the Multistrada. Hope this helps. Ride hard, Ride safe :)
@fellipesombrachrist10 жыл бұрын
Thanks man, that was a good answer.
@Ducati_Dude10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking this question Fellipe. I too am torn between the Multistrada and R1200 GS. I ruled out the 2014 Duc as there is no cruise control. CC is a 'must have' for me. So I decided on a 2015 BMW R1200 GS (still haven't plunked down any coin yet tho). Wait... stop the presses! 2015 Multistrada has cruise control. Very seriously considering the 2015 Multistrada... Going to visit a Ducati shop this week. Hopefully will get a demo ride...

Is 26,000 miles a lot for this?
@docmanrides2 жыл бұрын
The short answer is "it depends" on a few things to consider. Was the maintenance done as prescribed by Ducati, these things have a desmo service to be done every 12000 miles at about $800. What kind of riding did the previous owner do? Street or Adventure riding is another consideration to look at. This will determine how much money you will need to drop on it in the near future. These things are very expensive to maintain and if it was me and with what I know now, I would pass at that milage. But that is just my opinion. I hope this helps you make a sound decision. Thank you for the question and have a wonderful day. 👍

@Miata82210 жыл бұрын
It's 11. If you look closely you will see a little degree symbol°. this referees to the 11° valve overlap in this version of the 1198 engine. the superbike version of the engine has 30° more overlap. While that makes more power at top RPM it isn't very rideable on the street, lacking any kind of midrange torque.

@docmanrides10 жыл бұрын
Yes. The 150hp low gives you a very tame power band. The 150hp high gives you all of the engines power and is very aggressive. I usually stay in 150 low. Hope this helps.

Ducati has dropped the 'Granturismo' designation for 2015... We have a choice of the MTS 1200, or the MTS 1200 S.
@docmanrides10 жыл бұрын
I was wondering about that. That's to bad because I really enjoy the options on the GT trim. Perhaps you can add to the s model if you want to tour with a pillion. Hmmm thanks for sharing.
@Ducati_Dude10 жыл бұрын
***** Yes, we now have to choose the 1200 S, and then add the accessories individually. Silly way of going about it IMO! Yeah, I thought that the GT trim level was a great 'simple' way of getting an all decked-out touring bike. BMW does the same with the GS. You have to 'individually' select the accessories that you want. I thought Ducati was 'thinking' a bit when I saw the Granturismo trim level on the 2014 model year.
@Ducati_Dude10 жыл бұрын
Actually, there are accessory 'bundles', but if you don't want 'all' the items in a particular bundle you would probably want to order what you want individually.

I have a love hate relationship with mine! Multi gt 2013 Just done 2500 miles around Spain and France , great bike let down by .....still poor electrics! Not the suspension as that's German ! The dash needs replacing after going mad! New heated grips after they failed and new starter button as that stuck as well, I am anal when it comes to cleaning and maintenance so I know it's not due to care!

I'm sorry to hear that Sally. It's the first time that this issue is brought to my attention. I will definitely keep an eye open on mine. Thanks for sharing this information.
