I was born in Manchester in 1970. My dad was a labourer. He loved Margaret Thatcher. I was too young to understand much at the time, but I do remember the conversations around the dinner table, saying that Mrs Thatcher was giving us the opportunity to buy our own home; which with great difficulty, we did. It brought a sense of great pride to my parents and also helped raise my mum up economically after my dad passed away. They bought the house for less than 20,000 GBP but ended up selling it for more than 115,000 GBP She wasn’t perfect - but I greatly admire Mrs Thatcher for her integrity and strength. Great documentary!!

Mrs Thatcher was the best British Prime Minister the U.K. has ever had since Sir Winston Churchill - I remember her leadership when I was a teenager growing up in Rural Ireland in the 1980’s and I knew that she and our Fianna Fáil Taoiseach Charles J Haughey TD were great friends - she never got on with Jack Lynch as Taoiseach, but I was surprised that she never got on with our Fine Gael Taoiseach Garrett Fitzgerald - I’d seen her work with the Northern Ireland Peace Process and I loved her attitude towards the IRA and Sinn Fein, towards the EU and towards the Falklands - were she in power today she would have approached many issues in a much better and stronger way and having had the measure of many, born of instinct, she perhaps knew that the leaders that came after her would be far weaker, they reversed many of her policies after she left office - we will never have a leader as strong as her in my lifetime - in my 22 years living in the U.K. at age 53 all of the leaders have been weak

The era of strong leadership. The way they kept China and USSR obey is almost impossible these days. Today’s politics are so aware of their reputation they raised Putin, Erdogan and Xi, they put capital in their hands and we have a widespread of dictatorship nowadays. I’d rather go back to those days we were still a role model to those countries wanted to succeed

Or the manifestation of broken system that lead to the unbalanced economy the UK has now. (very unequal) London is rich and the rest of the UK is struggling,. She also seeded the financial crisis of 2008 by boosting Neo Liberalism Economics and the erasure of the Glass-Steagall Act; USA and UK both (the big bang). A major factor was the UK Class system that meant people that could talk in a specific accent would get management jobs even if they were inept, no skills at all. UK industry could never keep up with competition from the rest of the world and their better management concepts. The Uk voted for Brexit because they thought that the EU was the problem. BUT it was Thatcher and unfetterd neo liberal economics that was to blame. The UK is now a very unbalanced country and is now getting more poor every day due to Brexit. Wales and Scotland have no confidence in the UK Parliment anymore. Northern England is also seeking independence from parliament, mainly because the Tories are useless idiots that wrecked their economy. Manufacture has been outsourced to China leaving the UK only supplying services. Why? Because Thatcher along with the bad management and idiot trade unions killed the UK manufacturing industry.

Who grew up in the 1960s, had it hard then along came Maggie to stop the free milk in 1971 for anyone over 7 years old..? ( Maggie the milk snatcher…) Was she not behind the closure of the mental institutions in a a Great Britain a time when turmoil was on its way… Industry suffered greatly due to her political policies which caused mass unemployment especially in the north of England in order to control inflation. There is so much more which could have been said here but the one thing I despise here for is the Poll tax which caused huge furor in England and cause me to have to close my business and also pay dearly for a government who were hell bent on change. The poll tax riots I remember well,as I was in London’s Covent garden on Saturday 31st March in my establishment minding my own business only to have my store destroyed by rioters hell bent on destruction and the Met on horses riding through the area with batons hitting rioters and others for not conforming. What a nightmare that was, that day in 1990 on a Saturday, the busiest trading day of the week for most. Talk about bright ideas to build up the country, give everyone what they want only to have it be taken away for you later on. As from those lost souls in Las Malvinas. That along with the people up north who lost their livelihoods to the closure of coal mines are other stories. She certainly made her bed.

For those who were concerned about how to pay their bills and how to find a job in a job starved economy which she purposely caused, she could not have cared less! A truly unpleasant uncaring privileged wealthy demagog ! Thank goodness she never enjoyed the support of the majority of voters at the ballot box!
