As indonesian some of the translation is really different. They explained that they only took what they need, sometimes there is some of the buyer wants to buy some part of the manta ray and shark they sell it to the midleman but not often. They catch anything they can find for the purpose of survival. In my opinion the translator really wants to make the villagers look like a villain in this video while in fact they are really welcoming your team and explaining in a good manner.

Very cool to see these men carry out this tradition.... As far as the makers of this film, go document illegal commercial fishing and not brave, subsistence fisherman, if you really want to conserve and save species... Did I hear the frogman correctly? Did he imply that since they now have electricity and a road and outboard motors in Lamalera, they should perhaps yield to idealistic, condescending turds, like himself, who think that this way of life is antiquated? All the while, he's only there to make money off them by pointing a camera at them and waxing philosophically about conservation and endangered species in front of it....and spending lots of time in airports and hotels. Noble cause.

Any govt complicit in dredging and other ruinous acts against the ocean should be taken to court and punished. If the US Navy was defending the oceans instead of playing silly war games over some Sheikh's oil well, the planet would be on course for survival again.
