Doc, slide your hand through the the brace on your slingshot come from the bottom side through to the grip. This will allow you to pull it back much easier and improve shot power and accuracy. These are actually fun and deadly with a little practice. Overall a descent box. Not blown away but useful items if you don’t have them.

I have some experience with a slingshot, but I do not claim to be an expert. that is a decent one to learn with. you would want something with a bit heavier band for hunting though. that shot is again, good to learn with, but you might get heavier balls for hunting. and as far as the usefulness of a slingshot in hunting, as well as survival: they are a tool. much like any other tool the effort you put in to learning it's use will determine how it serves you. when you bought your first handgun, did you throw it in a bag, and wait until it was life or death to try it out? no, you practiced, and learned, and became proficient. same thing here.

I've got to be honest, that box looks like it has a lot of promise, no nonsense gear that you can actually put to use, I fkn love kukri shaped blades and would love to own a genuine Nepalese made kukri but that one looks like it is good quality, slingshots are huge fun I've had quite a few and am buying one Friday, if you put some decent tubes on that one it would probably be a decent slingshot, good quality tubes or bands make a big difference as long as the slingshot itself is sturdy, even that shovel looks like it is good quality, you scored Doc!

Seems to me that a box called Poor Man's Preparing should have an option cheaper than 100 bucks. Not that this one isn't worth the price. I wouldn't pay that much for that shovel or the Khukri, mostly because I don't need them. I actually don't need any of the items in this box, but the value is ok. Worth $100 but not $165. A poor man can't afford to spend $100 and not know exactly what he's getting. I'm a poor man and I cannot afford this box.

Some pretty nice gear, those little shovel/spades are quite useful, I especially like the round end instead of the handle variety, but I'll stick with my NATO issued folding E Tool (for now), slingshots can be really effective at shorter ranges and are generally quiet (like you I reckon that the ammo should be included with the slingshot as an all in one item). *THAT KUKRI* !!! That's a thing of beauty, looks a wee bit "weighty" though, but that can only help when you're hacking through stuff, right? Nice box and well done PMP. Winner winner chicken dinner!

We had jungle survival in Panama around 1980's. We were issued a smaller shovel but I brought my own, a German one with no folding head. TI showed us how to sharpen on river rocks, and cut down bamboo to make shelters. So who ever told you air force doesn't train w/ shovels is incorrect, at least we did in 80's.

I keep my shovels very sharp (like you said "axe sharp") for two reasons; in disputes with my neighbors the sharp edge proves it is mine. Neighbor "that's my shovel" me "check the edge" Neighbor "ok nobody else keeps them that sharp" And also it works better, especially if you have sod or roots. Rocks will chip it but a quick touch up with the file fixes that

A slingshot is one of the best survival weapons in my opinion and I hunt with them. Athough I don't have any knowledge on that particular slingshot I don't like that style with the arm rest on as they aren't compact. You would actually be surprised how easy it is to get accurate enough to take game with it, squirrels and birds on branches are easy game with a slingshot after just a few hours of practice. I use a small compact steel slingshot. It is so small I can keep it in my pocket and or bug out bag with no worries, it's light weight, can take lots of game, and if need be I can use stones as ammo to take game so ammo isn't an issue. I would recommend all preppers/survivalists look into slingshots

*Cold Steel's special forces shovel is AWESOME. Owned a few gifted many to friends including soldiers. Made sure to take mine when I deployed overseas and added to battle belt. Like almost all Cold Steel products the sheath is pathetic, it is better than some, but far short of truly good use for a tool/weapon. Kydex sheath with adjustable tension and multiple mounting options and maybe a pocket for survival gear or sharpening tool would also be great. Would really like to see Cold Steel make a better synthetic handle. Listed price seems high. *Sling shot is a solid model with lots of adjustment. But the standard bands I hate (the ones where they cut the band and run it through the pouch holes and then run the other end back through it) I like the ones where the pouch is attached to the band by a plug that goes into the ends of the surgical tubing. The former type is constantly tearing right at that point where it was cut before. Would really like to see a double band on each side to really beef it up. *The Condor knife looks more like a show piece than a useful tool/weapon. Handle too smooth if you had to thrust and hit something solid would your hand slide off on to the blade. The sheath is too secure you would still be trying to unsnap it when someone guts you with a $3 box cutter. Cold Steel's Chaos Kukri's sheath requires rocking the blade to get out of the sheath which is better but still not optimal quick draw.

I personally wasn't aware of the History Channel show "Alone" until researching these items. Then I was super impressed seeing these items being used in the wild. Both the kukri & the entrenching tool are freaking awesome. If you have not watched the show yet, do yourself a favor. Season 1 has the Condor Heavy Duty Kukri. Season 3 has the Cold Steel Special Forces Shovel. Seasons are on Hulu, btw. PMP really killed it this month, in my opinion, and just keeps getting better and better. I don't like the idea of getting slingshots in serious prepper/survival boxes because I don't have the skills to use them and so to me they are more a novelty or toy than a tool. At first I thought the shovel was rather meh, but the more I thought about how I would use that while hiking the more I liked it. No folding handle to worry about collapsing during hard work, a sharper edge and shallow scoop for less resistance penetrating different ground types which could be good considering you don't have the full handle of a standard gardening shovel to put your weight into, a solid sheath you don't have to worry about coming apart and dropping your shovel somewhere on the trail, and construction beefy enough to use to smack your way through some underbrush. I don't know, could be a good camping shovel. I'm interested to hear your follow up impressions after using it. As for being a "special forces" shovel, I don't know about that. But it looks like it could do some serious damage to someone if you smacked them with it.

I am ok with the slingshot. The ammo is way to small for that slingshot. I use that size for my bb slingshot.

As I think about it, I have 3 crosman airguns and a crosman bow, and my "armory" isn't much bigger, besides the knives. I can swear I've never been sponsored by them in any way.

They bought into a Ukrainian knife company. Skif has been around for a while. I really respect how they updated their pricing and website so quickly when peoleraised issues with the prices. Check out my facebook page if you want to vote on which 4 models I order and review.
