"Leavin' on Your Mind" was written by Wayne Walker and Webb Pierce, first recorded by Canadian singer Joyce Smith in 1962.
Patsy Cline was in Owen Bradley's office one day, heard the record Smith made, and immediately wanted the song for herself. According to Smith, "He said, 'No you can't have it. I'm going to see what that Canadian gal does with it'." Smith's single, released in 1962, did not reach the top 40, but it sold more than 100,000 copies, a hit for a first record and enough that Smith recouped the studio expenses and made a little money in royalties.
Cline recorded the song later in 1962 and released it in 1963. It was her last single before she died in a plane crash in March of that year. Unlike her earlier hits "Crazy" and "I Fall to Pieces", "Leavin' On Your Mind" stalled at #83 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. However, the song went to #8 on the Billboard country chart, and it remains a classic to this day.
Cline had planned to include the song on her upcoming album, called Faded Love, along with two other singles to be released that year. The album was not released as planned at the end of March because of her death. Instead, the song was included on a double compilation album called The Patsy Cline Story. The compilation featured all of Cline's big hits and has been still in print.
Here, her February 18, 1963 television broadcast in black and white from WSMV-TV, 5700 Knob Rd, Nashville TN for the Pet Milk TV Grand Ole Opry number 222 hosted by Master of Ceremonies T. Tommy Cutrer is remixed by DocRock1007 in HD color with her studio recording of the song released as a single just before she died at age 30.

well richardchadburn - close but in my humble opinion the late great Patsy Cline is the GREATEST voice I have ever heard PERIOD. I am now 62 and my beautiful parents introduced me to Patsy around 7 or 8 years old - SOLD EVER SINCE - I love music and this is the standard!!!!!!!!!!!

The purest voice of any human. Period. I read somewhere she was never satisfied or content with how she sounded and was almost surprised people liked her singing. This world was robbed when it lost her.

Just saw a video of a singer called Mandi Craddock singing this song. She did a great job! Even looked and sounded similar to Patsy. Though no one is as good as Patsy was. So thankful for these videos and CDs and such of her.

Yes my mom was the biggest Patsy cline fan ever. I grew up listening to her basically since I was like 13 years old. Grew to love her and now growing up in the 80’s and 90’s grew up loving her music thanks to my mom. I’m 43 this year love my mom and feels like home.❤

Though she left us to early in life. She still #1. At 68yrs I love her still. My mom was in her fan club. I was 3or4 we saw her in person. She twitch my jaw. She told moma I was going to be a beautiful woman. Thank you Patsy but I think we missed that point. Singing among the angels in heaven. Love you always❤❤😊😊😊

I'm 73 an a Christian an as I look back to the times notice her modest dress, no tattoos or piercings. Truly gifted by God with a heavenly voice an talent. I really don't know of her personal life but a hope she new the Savior.
