Andrew is a great artist. Met him a few years back . he was really nice actually and chatted with me for a bit. his music is timeless.

That's really good to know as he comes over as an arrogant dickhead in every interview I've ever seen or read.
@BvanBeeck5 жыл бұрын
Na, I dont thinks so in the slightest..just a shy chap he is..thats it methinks..
@tostare5 жыл бұрын
@@BvanBeeck I get that he could be very shy, and that can come across as arrogant. But I was thinking more of when he constantly downplays the contributions of anyone else, to the band. It's like how he said that producer Jim Steinman was "barely involved" with Floodlands, then grudgingly admitted that he produced This Corrosion and Dominion - the two massive hits off the album. Similar comments about Wayne Hussey etc.

The guy created some of the most outstanding and individual music of his generation. He is no doubt as frustrated with record company staff as the rest of us with the world been run by accountants. A frustrated artist is how he comes across to me. I have grown up listening to him and the music as a previous comment highlighted is timeless.

The music is post-apocalyptic. The decay, the big machine, modern civilization, the absurd. This band reminds me it's time to party.

Interesting interview. I understand why he'd prefer the greatest hits compilation to be a better representation of the band, but I don't think Some Girls Wonder By Mistake should be so easily dismissed. Their very early EPs and singles contain some of their best songs and that compilation is a fantastic way of getting those songs without having to spend tons of cash on out-of-print and very rare records. I very much enjoy his final statement though. Reaching fewer people, but reaching them more intimately must be such a rewarding feeling for the artist. It shows people take the time to appreciate your work in spite of its lack of mass appeal.

Many, many thanks for posting this, great to get an impression of AE . I loved Sisters of Mercy as a teenager, and still do - having got "Vision Thing" from my kids for my 37th birthday (my old cassette was unplayable). Anyway, they loved it, and I still do. I guess we're one of the few that he reached deeply.

Highly intelligent guy, great creative artist, but just such a pity he has to piss all over his fanbase. Love his music, got no time for the man.
@MysteriousAsteria6 жыл бұрын
Sadly this. And the way he sees his audience is also reflected on stage. You always have the feeling he doesn't want to perform; he's just there hiding behind a thick veil of dry ice so he doesn't see us and do his thing half-heartily and get it over with. Then leave the stage, cash in and go to the next live, playing the same old stuff. Doesn't help either that his voice has suffered a lot and isn't what it used to be. Seriously, SoM the last years were extremely disappointing live. With the way it is and how much of a diva Andrew is, maybe it's good we don't get another album.

That was quite insightful. I've never seen many interviews with him before. It's interesting how much I resonate with him as an artist, struggles with perfectionism and such. It's also interesting to hear his words about his relationship whit the goth culture, or really how he has none whatsoever. I never thought about it how we can all apply our wants about look and all to their version, which in his head, has nothing to do with what we're thinking. he was all about extending the rock and roll look; and we're all like yea that's the goth look we want! Slight case of crossing frequencies I guess. All in all he has to at some point understand his look and sound landed square in the middle of a giant puddle of dark awesomeness at the time and really helped solidify the goth leather look. At least it did for me hehe

Are there still old goths from the eighties scene. It's gone hasn't it? They're all grown up with jobs and families, surely
@Skiamakhos6 жыл бұрын
We grew up, had families, kept the faith, stayed goth. Some of us branched out a bit, brought in influences from Industrial & EBM, but we're still around. Check out Martin Oldgoth's podcast, or Cemetery Confessions, or The Kilted Goth or Skullgirdle on KZbin

He's saying mother" Russia rain down down down". With a large Z in the top right corner. Some kind of prophecy ? I actually loved those more popular songs like corrosion and dominium also his style was spot on then for the mood of the music. Whether he likes the style or not it fitted it well and it worked. But funny enough back in the day I never considered them goth. More a stand alone sound something similar to The Cult. I was a scooterist back then so could listen to any music I liked, I loved the cult I loved sisters of mercy I loved U2 simple minds Northern soul etc Anything I liked I liked . Didn't care much about the image. It's the music that was important.
