Thank you Gord Haig for uploading this show. Professor Loftus would approve of your efforts to show the general public what the daily slog of those who work in the medical profession is like.

If the ITV Colour Strike never happened, all the episodes of this series would have been in Colour.

Barry Evans was a great talent who met with a very tragic end - two of them actually. He was murdered but the murderer never caught, and before that, his career as an actor was long over and he was a cabbie. He made a very bad career move by leaving "Doctor at Large" in attempt to get bigger and better work, despite being offered a lot of money by London Weekend Television. Meanwhile, he wasn't getting any better work. Thankfully, they were able to create another show for him, "Mind Your Language", which was on for awhile - not nearly as funny as "Doctor" but it was funny enough I guess. He played straight man to a bunch of zany societal misfits who can't speak good English. He is their English teacher in a night school with a nasty headmistress (Zara Nutley.) It never really caught on, although they actually brought it back for a short while in the mid 80s. After that, Barry's career was over and he died 10 years later at the age of about 53.

I have no idea if it's true or not. A few years ago on social media a few fans tracked down people who knew Barry and the culprits. One of them claims that his mate and Barry had a fight because Barry tried it on but he did visit Barry a few prior the death for drinks and watch old tapes of Barry Evans work. It's alleged Barry picked up a group of people and took them to his house for drinks. (It sounds like Barrymore) Barry went on and on that was an actor and the people he had around were in the late teens or early 20s, they would of been kids when Barry was famous. Barry could of been lonely and one of the men knew it and took advantage or that he pre-planned it. A lot of MYL cast did go in to stage work or bit parts like Barry did eventually. Some of the MYL cast do appear in some Minder episodes. However I can't find any VHS releases of Doctors and MYL. The ones I see that are released come out well after Barry died. Unless there were repeated on in the 90s and he taped them. The last series of MYL from 1985/86 depending where you lived in the UK. It was only shown a in a few regions but the master tapes were sold or junked soon after transmission. I don't remember seeing any repeats of Doctors or MYL in the 80's or early 90s. It's interesting because on Talking Picture George Layton was interviewed about his career. He was asked about Barry Evans. George said 'He was a very strange fellow' not once but twice, he felt uneasy. He said he was going to explain things in his autobiography. There were theories online stated that Barry turned a lot of work not that he couldn't get work. I guess people got bored with him and work did dry up finally. I think his agent whilst Barry worked as a cabbie was working on a contract for Barry to be in Eastenders.

When I first watched Doctor in the House I had a black and white television. It wasn't until I saw these on KZbin that I learned about the Colour Strike.
