This isn't anything new. I was an EMT years ago, and i couldn't believe how nurses and medical Drs treated patients with such disrespect. It was mostly towards patients that were frequent visitors that we would bring in. I remember one male nurse was mimicking a homeless guy we used to frequently bring in because he talked funny. I looked around and all the staff had a smirk on their face, but the patient didn't realize it. I was disgusted by the lack of professionalism from everyone. They clearly didn't care about this guy. He ended up passing a year later due to health problems. Another instance I still remember to this day... I hadn't finished my EMT course yet, but one of the requirements was we had to spend two 12 hour shifts in the ER. One of the days, a concerned couple came in because their toddler had gotten underneath the sink where all the cleaning supplies were, and had somehow chewed on one of those toilet cakes that you put in the top of your toilet that cleans everytime you flush. I was sitting behind the desk with all the nurses, and all they were doing was bashing the parents hardcore how they could just "let" their child get a hold of cleaning supplies. Personally being behind the scenes, it's insane the things they say about their patients.

He got to the point where he would be sure to bring his prescribed pain medications with him to the hospital and to all doctors appointments to prove he wasn’t there for “drugs”. This treatment also happens quite frequently by pharmacists. It’s totally uncalled for. I’m sure they see plenty of patients that are seeking medications, but not every patient is. And even the ones who are shouldn’t be treated like garbage. They obviously need help. I was under the impression that’s what doctors were for…help.

They ran tests , you know .... chest xray , be general . Long story short and into more than half the night , meds lowered his blood pressure , and they offered him tylenol . He said No . He told him he hurt so bad that he couldn't stand himself . We decided to go home . But , I told the doctor I wanted to see his chart before leaving , Up at the top , it said DS . Drug Seeker . Then my BP went up . We went somewhere else and he had pancreatitis . Ok there's my rant .

@@ginabarbee1404 a similar incident happened to this same friend. His doctor was retiring so he was seeing several doctors so he could find a new one. At this point, he was on quite a high dose of pain medication so it was difficult to find a doctor to even see him. He had an appointment with one of the new doctors that was considering taking him on. He happened to be in excruciating pain that day as well & told the doctor. His eyes & skin had a yellow tone & I was very concerned. The doctor ignored all that & was only concerned with the medication he was on. We were only a half mile from our local hospital, so I brought him to the ER. He ended up having emergency gall bladder removal surgery. The surgeon told him that he would’ve been dead within the hour had he not gone to the hospital. He spent 10 days in the ICU. I’m glad your husband was able to get the help he needed. What’s upsetting to me about this story (among countless other things) is that he suffered from a panic attack and was treated like a drug seeker. Sure, once the attack is over it’s almost something to look back on and laugh and say “glad it was nothing”. But for some people they develop serious repeat attacks and become disordered. They’re debilitating. Panic attacks are something every doctor should take seriously because on arrival to the hospital you HAVE to rule out heart attacks, stroke and embolism. Then you treat the panic attack and refer the patient to a mental health specialist. Panic attacks aren’t a joke, they’re a real and scary condition that can ruin peoples lives if left untreated and disregarded as nothing.

For some reason the logistics of hospital networks being able to talk to each other is almost impossible. Unfortunately, people seeking medical attention for ailments that are not physically detected, or have multiple visits that end up being treated with narcotics will face an uphill battle in seeking proper treatment. On the bright side of things she is close to, if not already on her way to being morbidly obese and sounds like a candidate for future visits to a respiratory clinic.
