A good friend had ovarian cancer. Surgeon got it all, but advised chemo. She declined. 2 1/2 yrs later it was back…everywhere. The microscopic cancer cells had been dispersed throughout her abdominal cavity and her declining post-op chemo meant they were free to start growing again anywhere they had landed. She ended up doing a very intense round of chemo and so far is in remission again. Cancer is the worst. It took my dad. I wish Katherine the best in her fight against the disease.

My late aunt fought twice, having been on chemo twice as well. But the second time the cancer came with vengeance and it also spread everywhere quickly. I was with my mom and their youngest sister when she exhaled her last breath on the hospital bed. I saw her turn to her side with great effort, and just let go. Right then and there I was actually relieved for her and for my mom and the youngest aunt; she and them are now free of pain. But what's a bit ironic is how a family member of the opposite patient being more sad and cried harder than us when he learned she just passed away that very moment. Takes a very kind and empathetic soul to share and minimise the grief. There is no issue in a patient not wanting to undergo chemo or otherwise. My mom and the youngest aunt advocated against it but my deceased aunt just went with it straight away, as it was her own conscious choice. It worked albeit it took a toll on her twice, and the second time the cancer won anyway. Some people survived, some don't using their own way to fight the cancer. It's life.

They found stage 4 Appendiceal cancer that was in and around eight organs and wrapped around the superior vena cava. It went from a not so big surgery to them debunking the tumors and sewing her up. If they did anything else, she’d have died on the table. She lived three more years. She’s been gone for three. It feels like life kind of stopped in the hospital hallway and this has just been some dream since then. It’s STILL not fully real for me. Then he said ‘well, you have a choice, radiotherapy or mastectomy and if you want to be here every 5 minutes then it’s radiotherapy then walked out leaving me with the nurse. I chose mastectomy because it meant two things, it would be chopped out and my surgeon would change. I got a much nicer surgeon after that. 6 years later and I’m only just beginning to mentally recover. However, I say that I’m lucky because I’m alive. My mom got lucky with her oral cancer last year. No side effects from radiation or chemo other than loss.of taste. Sadly it's back but she's eligible for immunotherapy.

she's probably under too much stress over the years and that's not good for health. people really should give them space

Is it possible for cancer to appear somewhere else but it is the cause of a problem on a different location?
@SomeoneBeginingWithI7 ай бұрын
It is common for cancers to spread from one location to another, so it can cause problems in a location far away from where it started because there are now tumours in multiple locations.

Her name is Catherine. She has stated she no longer wants to be called Kate, yet all the media looking to pounce and profit by reporting on her addressing of her diagnosis can’t be bothered to call the poor sick woman by her name. I’m not even British but even I have the decency to refer to this poor young mother by the name she has asked to be called. I wish people would respect her wishes especially when discussing something as sensitive as her (should be private) medical information. Not to call just you out doc, you seem like a decent guy but I’m sick of seeing this everywhere. Her name is Catherine.

Biopsies are made before the major surgery is done. Some times a called “frozen section” when part of the tumor is sent to pathology to find out if is benign or it cancer. Once the report is read to the surgeon he/she would make a decision as to how to proceed. I don’t understand why they didn’t know that it was a cancerous tumor before they closed the abdomen. Only after the surgery they found out it was cancer? But wat do I know…I just work in the OR!
@SomeoneBeginingWithI7 ай бұрын
Standards of care may be different between the USA and UK medical systems. Dr Karan is a doctor in the UK so he will be familiar with the UK standards of care. I know that sometimes we do biopsies pre-surgery here, but I don't think it's a rule here that there always must be a pre-surgery biopsy. I have had surgery twice and was not biopsied beforehand.

You can have a known issue that needs resolving without them even suspecting cancer. And yes you are not a cancer specialist then.

Princess Katherine. Please don't call her "Kate Middleton", as the Americans do because they can't remember her rank.....or that she is married, or that she is entitled to respect.

'Princess Katherine' is also wrong. In the UK, you're only Princess [Name] when it's by birth.

Cancer is not a disease. It’s hundreds of different diseases. If you think of it like that all the confusing big words have a use, even if you don’t understand them.

I am not interested in the royals at all. But when it came to the abdomen surgery news about Kate... there were only two options of why they wouldn't say what it was. Right?! Cancer or something about her fertility. Nothing else is important in that nightmare of a palace it seems
@nicolad88227 ай бұрын
No. They could have said something like she needs surgery for crohns, ulcerative colitis or whatever and will need a stoma fitting. That’s pretty traumatising for anyone why should it be anyone’s business before the patient had adjusted.

@@nicolad8822 Cos the royals and their policies don't give a crab about how their royals actually are doing?!!!! She is way too old to get diagnosed with those diseases that late in life. I know there is a tiny possibility. However the whole scenario didn't give off those diagnoses to me. The time she spend in the hospital... doesn't fit anything else. And I know how a stoma changes your life. No need for explanation. Also, they are bringing news to canceled events rn. Looks like she has some bad reactions to the chemo. Poor thing. Hope she gets well soon. Or that this is all a prank to get some real vacation from the lack of privacy
