Neither. Basically John just didn't pay attention and couldn't see the future, causing him to get zapped. The animation here leaves out a lot of the detail from the comics. Manhattan is being really affected by Veidt's tachyon emitters, which are blocking his normal perception of time & reality, so he's having to use his eyes and ears, which he's not used to doing anymore; and he doesn't really pay attention to his surroundings, b/c he literally thinks there's nothing Veidt can do to hurt him. Veidt runs and hides, but leads him down a hallway into the machine, and uses his pet as a distraction to allow him to fire it.

I love Ozymandias I think as far as Batman archetypes go he is the most superior one. Physical feats off the charts and Mental feats, he defeated a godlike being with words and an ultimatum swaying Dr manhattan to his side and point of view. Ozymandias best watchman next to Dr Manhattan

Both are good in their own right. Comic book squid makes it feel like a comic book. The Snyder one makes Veidt more cunning and gives a good reason why Dr. Manhattan has to leave Earth forever.

Wow, I am shocked by the comments. The live action was possibly the worst movie ever made and destroyed the original graphic novel by Alan Moore. I guess you kids just saw the movie first and that made it the canon in your minds. There is a reason Alan refused to take any money for the movie. This cartoon seems to be true to this amazing writer's original vision. The movie was trash. I will give you that some of the performances in the movie were well done.

It’s not true to his original vision though. Moore created watchmen as a comic, it was never meant to be adapted (in his view). Also it’s not true to the comic either, this one adds Dan screaming “NO!” at Rorschach’s death which isn’t in the comic, it’s only in the Snyder movie. This new version is pure ass, I hope people just read the graphic novel instead.

I read the graphic novel a decade before the movie was made and I love both. This animated version looks awful. Edit: and no... Besides being a cantankerous old wizard, there wasn't a reason Moore didn't take money. He deliberately never watched the movie and had said he never will simply because he hates Hollywood and the adaption of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was so bad.
