@a mochi stole my jams Well if the person does not personally know you then I don't believe it's fair to get upset at them for doing so. Just because you made certain life choices doesn't mean you are entitled to great respect, especially in an informal setting. That being said, I usually call people "Dr" if they have earned the title. I just find it sickening when people feel as though others are obligated to respect their title.

Actually, there is a very odd tradition in our NHS ... From medical student, to the rough equivalent of attending (we call them Registrars), if you are on the surgical track, instead of medical, once you've reached the postion -- again, very roughly -- of senior attending/surgeon (we call those consultants), you get reverted back to using your pronouns ... so, for instance, the surgeon whom correct my scoliosis was one Mr. M. A. Edgar. So, unless he is on the medical track, if you see him sign his name with a Mr., a) he has been trained as a surgeon, and b) has entered that rarified strata of being a Consultant Surgeon, with the possibility of him eventually becoming a Lead Consultant, which is the surgeon in charge of all the others in, as Mr. Edgar was, spinal orthopaedic surgery ... I once knew a man, whom I met when he was a Senior House Officer (read Senior Resident), who did climb that ladder to become a Surgical Registrar, Consultant, then Lead Consultant. He actually stepped down from being a Lead Consultant (in his case, in complex gastrointestinal surgery, using, primarily, laparoscopic techniques), due to too much politics, and not enough time in theater, treating patients ... I don't think our NHS hands out the gold plated, and rather expensive, stethoscopes, but, from what have gathered talking to those in the surgical profession, once are given it, it really isn't all that it's cracked up to be. In my friends case, it was mostly attending various meetings, a huge amount of paperwork, and only once in a while, meeting, then treating patients, often really complex cases that he, after a couple of decades of experience, would be given to him due to the complications involved. Granted, he probably was earning in a month what I used earn in a year (although that job had crap pay, so there is that ...), but in his case, as he used to joke, his job required having lots of guts ...

Honestly every job needs to complain about difficult cases, my mum does accounting and regularly will complain about particularly difficult clients to me. It's just part of working with people. It's not actually even anything that gives me physical symptoms, if those doctors would read more about how it works.. But they don't. They just say I imagine the pain. Even dentist have said that I imagine my pain when I needed root canal and I had to go to private dentist to get treatment because public one didn't treat me. And I was in debt cause of that. Some day I die because the pain is really serious thing and they just throw me out. Or because they don't belive me I die in home - I really don't want to go to fight with doctors again. I didn't want to go to the clinic anyway..

I worked in a hospital pharmacy. Our hospital was a county hospital with a lot of indigent patients. The county provided free care for the patients, but it did try to recupe its losses, so the hospital worked with pharmaceutical companies to try to get them to provide free medications. Now, if the pharmas wouldn't do it, the hospital would still cover the patients' care, but if the hospital could get free meds, it helped their bottom line. So part of my job was to visit patients in the hospital and get information out of them about their medical history and background and get them to sign forms so that they verified that they were, indeed, taking these medications. But patients almost always had family members with them, so it was virtually impossible to get the medical history without the family members hearing about it. So I pretty well violated HIPAA often, though with the patients' permission. Getting free medications for indigent patients is a regular part of pharmaceutical companies' services, so this wasn't begging them hat in hand, they sent us forms on a regular basis for us to fill out and apply for their discounts of freebies.

Totally off topic ... I noticed that, in one video, you've signed your name as a SHO (congratulations, if that was relatively recent) ... Back when I was young, I wanted to beome a medical doctor myself, except life got in the way. Despite being a Brit, I grew up watch ER, so know about residents, chief residents, attendings etc. But the NHS pathway, especially in surgery, has always slightly baffled me. Perhaps, in a future video, especially for fellow Brits, you can explain the transition from HO - SHO - Surgical Registrar - Consultant - Lead Consultant; how long that takes, and why; and whereabouts on that ladder you at the moment, especially if there are Medical/Surgical tracks in the NHS, and, if so, which track you're on, and if you've decided on a speciality yet. Also, for non-Brits, explain why Surgical Consultants go from pronoun to Dr. back to pronoun ...

I came back to KZbin just to check the new coronavirus Vlog by Dr. Hope, but there is no update today. Hope it's just a time zone issue. Or in case Dr. is too heavily trapped in the influx of new cases to make any new updates, then I pray for your continued health and your patients' successful recovery. Seriously your channel is the BEST entertainment to kill time during self-isolation!

About the question with whine about a Patient: I am sure there is nearly NO ONE in this world who work AND has nobody he had complains about. It happens, we are humans. Even doctors are just humans. Humans with very specific knowledge. About cheating in exams: I got my spot for my profession I studied exactly for the REASON I was the ONLY one who NOT cheated in the entry math test. Rule been to NOT use calculators. But everyone did below the table. But I denied every calc I got offered. I earned my bad score of 35 of 100 by myself. And I am proud of it. I hate math.

Watching any of the Jurassic Park/Jurassic World movies with a whole crew of paleontologist is...interesting. Last one I just went with my mom and laughed REALLY loud.

I have only EVER fallen asleep in ONE class. We were in the heart of a large concrete building, almost no ventilation, and 200+ people doing Organic Chemistry. The professor had the most droning voice you can ever imagine, and spoke to the board rather than facing the students 90% of the time. About half-way through the semester at least half of the students had jist stopped showing up as we weren't learning anything from his lecture style, and wity the horrible lack of oxygen, I did fall asleep once... I was drowsy every single class, though... Oh, and it was at 08:00 in the morning...

I don’t blame doctors for complaining about their patients. Doctors are human too dealing with someone who they are trying to help but isn’t willing to accept help, or someone who is just trying to take advantage of you.
