Thanks for what you do doc! Does Joel's history of meniscus tears, recoveries, and observations allow the medical staff to make a more informed decision this time around as opposed to it happening for the first time? Is it possible they have a better idea how he may respond with just rehab vs. surgery since hes gone through it before?

You lessened my worries. That being said Embiid has been playing through knee issues a longer time this season and came of an MCL last playoffs. Hopefully they rest him and ramp up before the postseason (if it isn't a surgical repair)...

Rest him and ramp him up? Do you not know who coaches the 76ers right now😂 Nick nurse is known for playing his players to the ground. Starters 35 min+ every game they play. I’d be surprised if Nick nurse rests Embiid like that when he’s back. Edit : Embiid also wants to be out there dropping at least 30 a night. Pretty obviously Joel is playing to get crazy stats and nick nurse is only enabling him by playing him such high minutes.

It happened to me, there's also even ACL tears that come without pain (though you will definitely see swelling there). Think of the knee as a contraption with many mechanisms, if one is slightly damaged it can carry on working normally, but it'll take a toll on the knee as a whole in the long run.

Forced exerted on the knee from odd angles happens multiple times in games/practice, so for someone who's 250+ pounds, 7 feet tall and plays mainly in the post with blunt force being applied to an area of the body with minimal SM coverage, I'm surprised it hasn't happened earlier

Your breakdown of the cases' neurological signs evident during the fight in comparison to how they might differ from the signs of fatigue would serve as a trusted reputable case study and reference source. This would further raise awareness and education in the early recognition of acute life-threatening traumatic brain injury in fight sports. An increased education and hyper vigilance for this life-threatening injury will lead to early recognition in the key stakeholders who are best placed to prevent such death: the referees, ring side medical officers and the fighters' corner. Improved early recognition may lead to lives saved - this is why I love your channel, athelete safety 💪🥊🙏

Both legitimate questions. He sat out against Jokic yet decided to force it against the warriors so that he didn't miss enough games and cost himself the MVP. He put the MVP over winning a championship. Yet he played 6 straight games before the Denver game and just happened to sit out against Denver. And oh by the way, Maxey and Tobias happened to be out that game as well. If you're going to sit out the Denver game, sit this one out too. It's not even close, ACL, patelar tendon tear, broken tibia, Achilles tear, are all more traumatic and have taken more careers than torn meniscii. Don't forget D-Rose also had an ACL tear. Russ also had a torn meniscus and he came back being super explosive for a bunch of years. Dammit! Going to the floor is so dangerous! Some guys, especially the clumsy or overly aggressive, defensive specialist type guys, just don't care if they land on you. C-mon Embid, you can't let these "hustle players" take you out like this. Man!

1. It is part of how he gets more fouls called 2. Softens the blow of impact on knees vs landing in a normal compressed stance
@vlada
@vlada 4 ай бұрын
@@wackozacco7507I know the first reason but the second always seems like it causes more problems. Hitting the floor 12x per game is risky. First of all, he can hurt opposing players. Having a 300lbs land at the feet of 9 other players is a huge risk to their ankles, knees. Falling down so often is dangerous because landing on the hard floor with feet everywhere he can hurt his wrists, elbows, shoulders, etc. And finally , you increase the risk of players tripping on you and falling on you (plus risk for them). Exactly like happened.

Tim Duncan was also a lot lighter and had an amazing post up game. Not to mention embid had a history of knee problems. Also embid is 30. Duncan was young when that happened. If I had to bet this is the Start of Embid's decline.

I had a meniscus repair on my right leg 2 years ago from an injury in 2019. My doctor saw that it was relatively small and easily repairable but was super worried due to the long recovery period. Since I had been in pain for over 2 years, I went with it. It took over 9 months + PT to really start feeling like myself. 2 years on and it feels like I never got hurt. I did visit that Dr for a different issue on the other leg, but he panicked, thinking I retore it. He told me he sees way too many cases of people getting surgery only to reinjure that same meniscus in a slightly different area. Thankfully, I am not one of those 😅

I tore my medial meniscus a few years back. They wouldn’t cut me open for 6 months. Made me do pt and try steroid packs to get swelling down. At 6 months I got the repair and took about 8 months after that to feel like myself again. I know multiple people that recovered much faster. I think it depends on where the tear is and how big it is. Keep in mind Embiid is huge and has already had multiple knee surgeries.

Thats not why he has this injury. I remember he used to eat cheeseburgers before games. This is where it catches up to you. Especially when youre that heavy you need a strict diet. A lot of these NBA players have poor nutrition.

Doesn't matter. That 70k has to do with not following procedures disclosing injuries. That whole "probable, questionable and injured" is super critical and can make millions$$ of difference for the most important people. Not fans or opposing teams but gamblers. So when you don't let them know the risks and potential injuries it affects their odds. THAT is why injury list are serious business and they got fined.
