Damn this is terrifying, we need better treatment, technology and development in this area, ligaments are such an important part of the body yet we can fo very little about them, we can't heal them right, acces them properly without messing the entire body or just heal them straight, we need a change in this, i'm not saying it's easy, but surely we should invest more money in this kind of stuff. I wish we habitants of countries could entirely choose what the government do with out money, for example, would you chose to spent 10 billion of dollars of taxes in making weapons or using them to develop technology and new ways to heal nearly perfectly ligaments?

The surgeries ruined my athletic career and I regret having them in the first place because it made the pain worse. I had a pettla graft in my right knee. The pettla didn't heal, right no one seems to know what to do. The screws hurt. I can feel them, but no one believes me. The surgery is almost 3 years old it should have long since been healed. My left, which was a quad graft, healed way better the button do hurt if I accidentally bump them into something though.

@healthdecide9 күн бұрын
Tears can sometimes heal on their own, especially if it’s a partial tear and your knee remains stable. However, complete tears often require surgical intervention for optimal recovery. If you suspect a meniscus issue as well, it’s essential to get a proper evaluation from a healthcare professional. They can determine the extent of the injuries and recommend the best course of treatment, whether that’s rest, physical therapy, or possibly surgery. Listening to your body and getting the right diagnosis is key!

Hello why is it not possible to heal arthritis or spondyloarthropathy?
@healthdecideАй бұрын
It’s not possible to heal arthritis or spondyloarthropathy because these conditions involve chronic inflammation and irreversible damage to the joints and tissues. Current treatments focus on managing symptoms and slowing progression, but they can't fully reverse the damage or cure the underlying causes, which often involve complex genetic, immune, and environmental factors.

How long do the screws stay?
@healthdecide8 күн бұрын
The screws used in orthopedic surgeries are often designed to stay in place permanently. In most cases, they don’t need to be removed unless they cause discomfort or complications. Some screws are made of metal, while others are made of materials that can eventually dissolve or be absorbed by the body over time.

I’m really sorry to hear about your torn ACL, especially coming from a background in ballet. It’s understandable to feel concerned about the surgery and the costs involved, but getting the proper treatment is crucial for your long-term mobility and quality of life. If surgery is recommended, it can often help restore function and reduce the risk of further injuries, allowing you to return to activities you love. Taking this step can help you get back on your feet and dancing again. Stay positive, and take it one step at a time!

I met with an accident in August 2023 Got an MRI Reports said I had torn ACL, meniscus and some more. Doctors said to get an operation. Did physiotherapy for a month. Was able (still able) to walk without any pain and do normal activities. Got another MRI in May 2024. Healed everything except for the ACL. Don't know should I be happy or sad. Got this at a young age of 17 and I feel like I am not able to keep up with the people around my age like run, jump etc. I know I can run/jump but there is a fear at the back of my mind. I feel my knee is stable but I just don't know what to do. My friends had surgery and they say they feel pain which I don't. I really don't know what to do.

If your knee is stable for general living and stable enough for activites you do don't do the operation. I torn my acl at 16. Did all a I can to stabilize the knee but it did not work. Two years ago I had meniscus repair surgery and now I'm 19 days after acl reconstruction surgery. Mental toll operqtions give you is noth worth it if you can live happily. I had different situation than you. Any bigger rotation of knee and my knee would slightly dislocate and also I still want to compete again in karate. So take what you want from this coment

Orthos will always tell you that surgery is necessary because that is how they make their living, however I may be able to give you another opinion based on my experience I tore my ACL during football season and decided to wrestle with it meaning I couldn't get surgery until after wrestling season, PT can do some amazing things and during rehab before I wrestled I got to a point where I felt pretty normal for the most part, during the wrestling season there was quite a bit of pain and swelling because I was constantly aggravating it but even then I had a few good weeks where I was feeling pretty good, the question you have to ask yourself is how active do you want to be later in life, if you don't plan on returning to sports I would say surgery is not required, after a few months of recovery you will be able to run and lift normally for the most part, best case scenario you will be 90% of your pre injury self, the good thing about not getting surgery is that if you get 6-8 months down the line and don't like how it's going you can always decide to get surgery then, I had to get surgery because of my future plans which involve the Navy and other things, however pre surgery I was only slightly limited by my knee, I was able to hunt and fish and do all the things I normally do at pretty much the same level, sometimes there was pain and discomfort but nothing I wasn't willing to push through Your ability to recover without surgery depends on how dedicated you can be but also what level of athlete you are What I would recommend is to find a good physical therapist and have this conversation with him The week after wrestling and the week before my surgery I rode horses and went on some hunts where I hiked a few miles in snow and I felt great then, had a torn ACL, LCL, and med/lat meniscus tears Hope this helps
