Update: EndeavorOTC is free to download, but requires a $10 monthly subscription fee to play (or less if the player selects an annual plan). This clears up some of the questions around the new business model.

It feels pretty shady to me. It doesn't seem like they have made the studies and trials that they are using for the success and improvment statistics public. Untill they release those studies I'm remaining sceptical. If the results from them were so "significant" why hide the studies?
@MatthewElvey Жыл бұрын
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the degree to which this just teaches patients to do better on the test because it’s so similar to the test. As I understand it, that kind of criticism is reported to be valid for all previous brain training games that have had a lot of hype around them. The 72.5% quality of life increase does sound huge however, the devils in the details and I’m recalling there was no placebo control, let alone a study with the placebo being some other video game. Initially, I was very excited when I heard there was an ADHD game, but when I demoed the EndeavorRX gameplay I became very skeptical. Now you’ve rekindled my interest. Looking forward to your next video on this.

I love this question - thank you for it! When I think about something like this, I go back to what has the data shown. In this case, the data has shown improvements on an objective measure of attention (the TOVA) and on more subjective measures (clinically validated surveys, like the ADHD-RTS). Notice how there was actually no measure of improvement in performance related to the game itself. If there was, and that was the only measured output, than I would agree with your concern - that the game is only proving that by playing the game, you get better at playing the game. However, there was actually no measure of this at all in the clinical studies.
@MatthewElvey Жыл бұрын
@@DigitalDocGames (It's my understanding that the TOVA is very similar to the game itself. So how can you say "there was actually no measure of improvement in performance *related to* the game itself?" It's been a year or so since I looked into this, so my recollection is a bit fuzzy, but that's my recollection.) I guess I should just try the game and see if it helps my life. If it works, it's so worth it.
@allisonying93 Жыл бұрын
@@MatthewElveyyes exactly.. the tova is very similar to the game. And I’m confused why there wouldn’t be a placebo. I’m skeptical and the game is expensive.
@CAnatone Жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. The "click the button in this instance, don't click it in this other instance" then switching the instance to click and not click is exactly what the TOVA is. I feel like there is also no discussion around hyperfocus and how many people with ADHD gravitate towards video games and are able to hyperfocus on them and do well. So being able to focus on playing this game may not be the exercise it is intended to be if it is something that the "patient" is drawn to anyway. Perhaps this game will help people which is great, but I keep coming back to this fear of playing the game must be monitored by a doctor or else...or else what exactly? What is the fear here regarding not playing the game under a doctor's supervision? The only thing I can think would be that then maybe you aren't recording results to see if it is working. But unless there is something that could trigger seizures or something like that, I really find it hard to believe that there is some sort of danger involved in playing the game. Especially not anything that would require a medical professional's oversight to avoid. Could you get carpel tunnel or headaches or difficulty sleeping? Maybe. But how is that different than any other video game? Also...this game seems to be exactly the same as the RX version. So why is there a need for a prescription for the RX version? Is it just so it can be covered by insurance? Insurance can cover things that don't require prescriptions. On their website under the "Why do you need a prescription?" section, they mention FDA approval. Ibuprofen has FDA approval but unless it is really high strength, I don't need a prescription to take it. So the entire "RX" thing seems suspect to me. If it could replace meds, that would be great since $10/month is cheaper than a Concerta prescription plus the monthly copay to meet with a psych since you can't refill stimulants. BUT, wasn't there something about it not replacing meds? Thanks for this video. As you can see, it has gotten my ADHD brain swirling with thoughts. Lol.

I decided to give it a try, and after 5 days i like it. The game gets a LOT harder the longer you do it, and I'm mentally tired afteward, but that means it must be doing something. Also, the graphics are beautiful and it makes sticking with it for the whole 25 min easier.

This is as really helpful video. Thank you!! As the parent of a child who is nearly debilitated with ADHD, and being recently diagnosed with it myself, we are desperate to try ALL of therapeutic approaches out there. I am trying mediation now, but am more hesitant to medicate our young son at this point. I have a comment and a question for you. Comment: I wonder if the research on adults having such an improvement in baseline performance on this game has to do with the fact that adults are not usually playing video games (or are rather rusty in playing them), whereas kids are more acclimated to the controlling a fast-paced electronic game in the first place. Therefore, an adult's starting baseline performance may be skewed to very bad since they are not as used to the hand-eye coordination needed for electronic video games. As they improve at maneuverability, as well as focus, this appears to be an exponential improvement comparatively. Question: If one positive effect of ADHD medication on a child's brain is that new--and lasting--neural pathways can be made in childhood that may persist lifelong, could this game have a similar lasting effect? Obviously, there is no cure for ADHD, however neural pathways created while a brain is still plastic & malleable would have a much better lasting outcome than me trying to create new neural pathways in my mid-40s. What are your thoughts on this aspect of this type of therapy no lasting effects? Since you are a physician, any thoughts you have would be appreciated. Again, thank you for doing this video!! You answered a lot of questions I had & but had no one to ask!

My son doesn’t need the game. It’s pretty common sense the games / multiple electronics he plays at once stimulates his brain 🧠 just as fast 💨 as working as a 911 operator did mine with multiple computers 💻 screens in front of me and tasks going off all the time. He literally grew in the “womb” surrounded by constant electromagnetic wave lengths. Now his brain like mine and his fathers is on hyper drive and he isn’t medicated but does a online school Program from home 🏡. He gets to choose if he goes back to in person. He knows he won’t be allowed to play his video game, watch KZbin videos and listen to his teacher all at once in class next year like he does right now still pulling A & B equivalents for his school. My feeling on the FDA one vs OTC is having insurance possibly cover the co-pay and the parents and or kids being able to claim “it’s Dr ordered”.

Piece of advice. People watching this video have ADHD, because they want to see what the app is. So target ADHD. 1. Use a better intro 2. Put a conclusion of your video in the beginning. 3. Add more images 4. Use more physical, sensory description. Most people with ADHD don't learn or even pay attention to "lectures" 5. Bright colors. 6. Faster speaking, more excited speaking. 7. Use your highschool English, add a hook, and talk about key points before lecturing the entire point. 8. SHORTEN THE VIDEO. ADHD ATTENTION deficit hyperactive disorder. ATTENTION. We can't pay attention to things, much less long things. 9. Stress key points. Bring people back on track when you talk about key points. Some way to do this is: bright color screens with the key points written on it for them with bold letters, or talk louder when you say them, or use number. "Number 1:" "Number 2:" 10. So many more I could say, but I'm not an expert on adhy, I just have it.

Ill try this before I ever go on medication. Drugs for a deficiency in attention would be laughable if the crooks & dealers pushing it weren’t so disgusting and so many weren’t going blindly along.

You are right that most games require you to repeat tasks - this is called a game loop and is core to any game! The difference here is that this has an algorithm learning from the player and scaling difficulty in real time based on player performance.

My dude, I'm thankful for this video. But honestly I couldn't get through half of it bc you ramble so much! You said you don't have ADHD, but I really think you should get a 2nd opinion. Bc this was edited and is still very scattered. Example: The info about your charger and keeping your iPad for your kids. That's so off topic and unnecessary for this video. It's time of my life I'll never get back, esp bc I'm now commenting on it. Please better prepare scripts for future videos and try to keep them more concise and to the point. You have useful info but it does no good if no one can endure long enough to get it. You're obviously going to have ADHD people coming to see this video. Make it ADHD friendly. And like I said, please get a 2nd opinion on whether you have ADHD or not. Both my wife and I both said you were ADHD af after only half the video. I'm not infallible, but I've never suspected someone of being ADHD who later didn't turn out to be. 🤷♀️

@cocoabo3470 Жыл бұрын
ADHD isn't something that can be "activated," you can be born with it and have signs that can help you be diagnosed and they symptoms are different between AFAB and AMAB, and among people with ADHD. I'd suggest doing some research by watching KZbinrs who educate on ADHD, because there's a chance that if you have friends (neurodivergent people tend to gravitate towards eachother!) and family (since genes play a role!) that have ADHD, you could, too! Look up different types of ADHD also, because it could manifest as inattentive type or hyperactive type!! You can't "catch" ADHD, but you could already have it, and it's not all fun and games, it's very stressful and not fun to have, but I'm skeptical that a game can even "treat" ADHD, but that's a different conversation.

@@cocoabo3470 I know about types of ADHD. However. I have many symptoms of that and I will makea ADHD test with a specialist about this.. I was just curious that. Spending time with a lot of things which are happening dynamically like video games can activate symptoms but I had issues with focus since all life :/ but in Poland ADHD was not so popular. So many people were diagnosed like they have dyslexia and issues with focusing instead of ADHD ( it was called stress-free upbringing)
