Your "dogs" are clearly sentient clouds. Meaning you're a simple country doctor, living with fantastical cloud beings, and on call amidst the plague. I don't think you can call it ghiblicore when your life is basically a Ghibli movie.

Me too! A great tip I saw in 'Creating Couture Embellishment' by Ellen Miller is to cheat the stitch counts by basting a thin strip of gingham to the inside of the skirt before you start to run the gathering threads. Then you can use the little gingham squares to align the gathering stitches perfectly, without having to measure/concentrate.

These look so cozy and comfortable. Ever since Rachel Maksy posted a few videos on pinafores a few weeks back, I've wanted to make something like this. And combined with your video I am absolutely adding these to my "To Make" list! I live in Florida, so these lightweight linen dresses feel like they would be perfect to wear practically all year round. And I love the added pintucks to the apron. I know they serve a practical purpose of shortening the apron, but it's also a pretty detail added in that I think makes the apron feel special. ..and it's an incredibly simple dress but I need a Kiki dress. She's my favorite! Think it still fits in Ghiblicore even if it's a little out of place with Sophie and the others.

I got a little more excited than I should have when I saw your button hole chisel. I've been using that for 20 years. Just: "I got it before the amazing Sewstine! Eeeee!" It really is the best, especially for the buttonholes in the super-thick front of my winter coat, and in small scraps of hide, and in things you don't want to distort with a seam ripper or small snips.

Ghiblicore is perfect because cottagecore has a more dreamy element to it, whereas this dress is as practical as it is pretty. This is definitely making me want to push it up my project list, but I’ve got to get to other stuff first. The Peter Pan collar and buttons are adorable. Two of which my daughter hand knitted for me. They are super small and can be hung on my Christmas tree. I love the movie My Neighbor Totoro so much that I have made it a point to buy it for all of my friends children for their birthdays, and they all really love it. I just watched it again a few days ago, and it's the only movie I own that when the credits roll I could start it at the beginning and watch it all over again. I love the dress, it looks very similar to one worn in a daguerreotype of my husbands, 2nd grt. grandma. I love the off the shoulder look of the bodice. I shall have to go look through my old family pictures and see what inspiration I can take from them. I do own one of his grt. grandma's fine linen aprons, and have worn it, but it is so fragile, I should make a copy of it. What a great inspiration this was. I simply love it.

This is so cute! This is ABSOLUTELY something I would have worn in my 20s-30s...actually, I had a similar dress in the 1980s that I adored! And barefoot is the way to go! (Except now. It's winter.)

cannot believe i didn't think of ghiblicore sooner. as someone who grew up watching those movies (and still vehemently wishes they could be in one) at least being able to dress like a ghibli character can help quell that desire somewhat. even if there is no magical adventure involved 😪

I didn't know that was called cartridge pleating! That method is how I've been doing most of my gathering, good to know it's a legit method! I love how this came out~

Oh man, I just love this. I have been wanting to make a ghibli dress, like specifically a sophie dress, for years. I am so excited for your next video! I would also love to make a dress/jumpsuit inspired by Captain Dola from Castle in the Sky, or any of the dresses in kiki's delivery service, like Osono's. I just love how soft and poofy ghibli dresses are!

This is a good advertisement for Little Women Atelier for me, because my waist is set much higher and I have a very short waist, so most dresses waists sit on my hips, which, even when I was skinny, were not the size of a waist. Anyway, I may try this Atelier once I’m working again.

I bought myself an apron at the beginning of the year and I feel so validated right now. Also tempted to try Little Women Atelier. I have been buying my linen pieces from Son de Flor, an equally wonderful dress shop based in Lithuania.

Loved this video! Also liked your thoughts on cottagecore in the discription box - the demographic and meaning of the term has changed a lot the last two years I’ve been interested in the aesthetic. Ghiblicore is a great alternative!

I never thought I would like and want some cottagecore in my wardrobe, but you've definitely changed my mind. I'm in the process of saving for a new seeing machine as my very old Necchi has gone to sewing machine heaven and with the pandemic, I've been preoccupied with other things. But Gbilicore will be added as soon as I get my new machine.

I mean this in the most positive way possible, but make the apron out of a tiny floral print and you'd be wearing my grandma's staple outfit. As a farmers wife, practicality was everything, and aprons gave her that for sure!

I love Little Women Atelier! Thank you so much for illuminating the high waist issue, I thought I had just gained weight since I gave them my measurements... I didn't think about the fact that it was sitting on my ribcage. Glad I got it with plenty of ease so the only consequence is the hidden zipper showing a bit more than it's supposed to. I also just love learning more about construction techniques, even if I don't really sew currently. It gives me an appreciation for the things I purchase, and helps me when shopping to analyze if clothes have been constructed well. I will say, the more costuming KZbin I consume, the more I am pushed in the direction of setting up my sewing machine again and trying things out. I was very into Lolita fashion in high school, so I love the Victorian child aesthetic, but I also kind of want to see how Renaissance office-wear would look? but unfortunately I've not had any luck in finding an etsy shop that does knee length Italian renaissance gowns... Next big trend? Medicicore??

I love this so much, and it looks so comfy and unique and you've totally personalized it. Also, that is the most beautiful shade of green and you're so right that it works well with all those different aprons.
