My brother is a big comic book fan but never showed me stuff from this. He was more into X-men but has a lot of really old comics with first appearances.

It was said that Dr. Strange spent centuries fighting Dormammu which made him a an extremely powerful and well trained wizard in the short amount of time in the MCU timeline from this movie thru the other upcoming movies.

As the movies progress you get to see just how powerful he is & can be when needed Doctor strange wins a 1v1 against most if not all of the avengers imo (without giving any spoilers away as to abilities & certain developments in the MCU) before anybody starts spoiling shit in the comments to argue w me

Nobody ever notices that before his accident, they are describing a military colonel with a spinal injury. They are talking about Rhodey. So this movie links to Civil War.

Incorrect. The timeline doesn't match. It's been confirmed that it was referring to the soldier testing Hammer's armor in Iron Man 2.

@havok6280 It's possible that it's from Iron Man 2, but the internet is about 50/50 on the identity. Some even say it's nobody. Although, Iron Man 2 takes place in 2010, and Strange is in 2016, closer to Civil War.

Doctor Strange is a good example of one of the reasons the MCU used to be so good. You had characters that actually had to earn their power; characters that had flawed personalities but ended up growing, learning and become worthy of their power. Nowadays (and it's unfortunately almost exclusively the female characters) the characters have everything handed to them, they have no doubts or faults, they don't earn their powers or have any need to grow because they start that way. Hopefully the MCU can get back to that, but looking at whats on the horizon and the now half decade+ of this being the status quo.... I have my doubts. Content over saturation being another thing diluting the quality of the MCU, but that's another topic entirely. Luckily you still have a few more films comprising the good MCU yet to watch!
