It was originally The Beast's theme that was reused for The Master to emphasize The Master's evil. This is really Murray coming full circle since the voice actor for Sutekh also portrayed the Beast.

Great reaction to the Sutekh reveal. I was convinced it was the Beast, but this is even better as Pyramids Of Mars is a favourite Classic Who story. Most reactors are more New Who fans so didn't react in the same way so was great seeing your excitement. It's been years since I was this excited about Dr Who.

Could Susan be Mrs Flood? When the dr explained regenerations to Ruby one of the reasons was to hide. Mrs Flood said something like shes be waiting and hiding. She also said in her first episode that she hadnt seen a police box for over 50 years, plus she knew it was a Tardis. Also its only been her and the Dr breaking the 4th wall. If its not Susan, im sure shes another time lord

Seeing your reaction to Sutekh's return makes me feel a little better about my one. My one was just as hype, I was bouncing off the walls, I was yelling at the top of my lungs in excitement. Which led me going to A&E because my heart became really fluttery which was quite scary, they found nothing wrong and determined it was probably a mixture of excitement and stress. So yeah I fangirled too hard for the return of Sutekh and the name drop of other gods but seeing other people's hyped reactions makes me feel a little less silly about what happened to me :D

I would love for them to canonize the Beast as the same entity as - or some incarnation or harbinger of - Sutekh. I'm fully aware this is probably a stretch and RTD won't do it, and Carla's mention of "the Beast" plus the red swirly clouds was probably yet another red herring, but hear me out: Besides the obvious parallels, I love the idea because it means that the Beast could have latched onto the TARDIS way back in Series 2. When 10 broke the Beast's prison, he was standing right next to the TARDIS, which had been stuck down there with the Beast for at least a few hours, maybe days by that point. Whoever built the prison for the beast didn't expect anyone to ever be able to leave the black hole's gravity well, not ever anticipating that a TARDIS would one day land and then fly away from the asteroid (which would have been impossible for any other ship), perhaps with some essence of the Beast inside it. It works for the "One Who Waits" moniker too. He's been waiting at that black hole for millions of years at least, and then however many centuries he spent in the TARDIS while the Doctor gallivanted around. The final straw that broke the camel's back would then be going to the edge of the universe and invoking the salt rule, allowing the barriers to weaken enough to take over the TARDIS (or it could have been the Flux, or any number of other things that happened around that time). Since then the TARDIS has been groaning as Sutekh has been waking up and taking it over. As unlikely as the theory is, I also like it because it ties 3 different eras of the show together really nicely, AND (fun fact) the Beast is conveniently also played by Gabriel Woolf, who is the voice of Sutekh. It's my headcanon until proven otherwise, at least. :D

Just seeing how excited you got at the end, got me hyped all over again haha :) You're right, even though I heard the theories before watching the episode, I wasn't actually expecting it to actually be Sutekh. And hearing Gabriel Woolf's voice (who also voiced The Beast btw) gave me chills. Yeah, I do wonder how long he's been hanging around the TARDIS, and also, does that mean he's on 14's TARDIS as well? lol Anyway, I thought the episode was insane, like, in the best way. There was SO MUCH to unpack in it, that I'm still recovering and processing everything. I really enjoyed it, and it felt like a very classic-RTD finale. His part 1's are always amazing though, floating so many loose threads and theories (I feel like every single Susan Twist theory I've heard of was mentioned in one way or another lol).. I just hope he can land the second part next week as well, cause the set up has been really great so far. I'm really hoping that the Doctor decides to finally go and see Susan (Forman) after this is solved, like, even if we just get one scene with her at the very end of the next episode, I would absolutely love that and it will make the misdirect and her repeated name-dropping feel more justified. While I seriously loved the episode, I did feel like there was a bit of an overabundance of characters. Like, take Rose for example - As much as I love her and glad she was brought back (I'm a trans person myself, so very glad for the representation; and I loved her befriending Ruby, making Carla want to join, and mentioning Donna and 14), I felt like she was very much out of place and under-utilised here. When we saw her in the trailers, I was waiting to find out why she was even in UNIT to begin with, and there was just... No explanation for it. That's a pretty small gripe tho, all things considered. I did enjoy her presence anyway, and liked all the small character moments we did get. I thought Kate in particular was amazing in this episode, Mel was good and actually had something to do for a change haha, and Morris was also a great addition. Oh and, I'm also confused about the bit where the Doctor implied that he hadn't had kids yet - Cause, well, RTD1 era established that the Doctor was already a dad.. the Moffat era reiterated this, with 12 having "dad skills". And even this season, we've had mentions of him being a father (it was an entire plot point in Boom), so, that was a bit odd imo. Also, Kate claiming she had no idea about him having a granddaughter when Susan's photo was literally in the Black Archive in Day of the Doctor.. Though, it is the Black Archive, so I suppose maybe she forgot lol.

I've had time to think about this episode since it aired whilst thinking about everything pertaining to this Ruby mystery, especially 73 Yards. We've been assuming that the woman following Ruby is her future self and that the Doctor disappeared during that whole business. But what if any of that is not the case at all? Because most of us have been driving ourselves silly wondering how Ruby could travel through time and exist throughout her own entire timeline twice over but what if the old woman was not Ruby and it was the Doctor instead? The only thing she said when we were shown her perspective, is, "Look at me, I look so young". That doesn't necessarily mean she's necessarily referring to Ruby, as there was one other person there, The Doctor. What if "he" did not disappear at all, but simply manifested from a future incarnation of sorts, whilst taking the other "past" self out of the equation so it wouldn't mess with the continuum further. If you look at things from that lens, they could make sense, because the Doctor can travel through time, can mess with people’s perception of an image or hypnotize people to run away as they got closer. We've been assuming that there's a second Tardis at Ruby's birth because of Sutekh, but what if it's because there’s a second Doctor there...Ruby's mom. We've been talking about her mom but not her father. There's a precedent within this universe for a child to have a singular parent on a genetic basis. Food for thought.

Just had a thought: I was previously assuming it latched itself onto the tardis around wild blue yonder or church on ruby road time, since thats when the tardis started acted up a bit. But what if it has been attached to the tardis since pyramids of mars? and only recently it has begun to gain enough power to move in this corporeal realm and affect things? Its the one who waits...been waiting on/inside the tardis for a loonnnng time in other words lol either way the prospect of the doctor having been jaunting about and the tardis having been suffering and leeched off of is a dramatic and actually really sad one, poor thing.

One thing interesting is Harbinger talking about "The Pantheon" refers to "The Father, The Mother and the Other", now knowing about the Timeless Child, that screams out to me a reference to the Timelord's creation...... The Doctor's adapted mother, Omega, considered the father of the Timelord's ability to travel through time and space, and the Other possibly being the Doctor's earliest form..... Which is very eyebrow rising if that was the case, for the founding of the Timelords being included in the harbinger's speech. And having watched Pyramid's of Mars as a kid in the 90's, I'm so happy seeing Sutekh back!

Possible Classic Who spoiler. There is another possibility. I can’t recall where I saw the comment exactly, but someone pointed out that since another Classic Who villain, The Mara, is name checked during the Harbinger’s speech, “The Father, The Mother, and The Other”, could refer to the three Gods Of Ragnarok from the 7th Doctor story, The Greatest Show In The Galaxy. The three of them do present themselves as a family before their true appearance is revealed.

I feel like the seeming malevolence of Mrs. Flood is another red herring. We didn't see her again in the episode, so she wasn't a harbinger, and while the line delivery seemed sinister, she could be an ally of the doctor.

So I'm a newish Doctor Who fan, and so I had to look up who Sutekh was. And while I think the reveal is incredible and the entire premise is amazing, there are a couple of things I am a little confused about. The main one is that, at least according to my research, Sutekh was originally a member of a race called the Osirians, right? So is that still on the table as far as this Sutekh is concerned? I'm just a little confused on how exactly canon for the Doctor who series works.

I haven't seen the entirety of classic who (I find it really *Really* difficult to watch) but I have seen a big chunk as I went back to watch Sarah Jane's parts. Got to have my "No way!" moment just like you!

Perhaps Mrs. Flood is Susan? 😂 Thing is, Carole Ann Ford is still alive. She should play the return of Susan. But yeah, Sutekh! But he's an alien with psychic powers of a god in established Who lore, not a CGI dog waiting forever. He had a life and he died in his 70s appearance. So... some changed premises here since then.

I haven't really. The only EU material I guess I have pryed into is Big Finish but I acknowledge other mediums like Lungbarrow, Supremacy of the Cybermen, etc

It was always going to be a being of a much higher order than the Master or the Monk and the Trickster doesn't have the gravitas to be the main villain of Doctor Who season. The problem I had was the clues didn't point to Sutekh. He isn't the oldest one, or a real god etc. Fenric would have fit better as he is the great evil from the dawn of time. Sutekh has obviously changed in nature but why bother giving us clues to a version of the character we have never seen? All the same it was a great reveal. I think if Susan was to return she would be played by Carol Anne Ford so I never believed it was really her. It was all just part of Sutekh's trap along with the anagram spelling TARDIS.

Coulda done with another 15 minutes cos it was kinda cramped. Heck, the season needed three more eps at least to give Ruby’s family more time with the doctor. Cos right now it’s like if season 1 didn’t have more than 5 mins of Jackie and Micky Also woulda liked some reveal for Ruby to end the ep more dramatically cos just sending her to the time window to do nothing felt off.

Ohhhh i just had a thought. Maybe a realization. The time window is basically a lesser time machine right? That's why ruby's mother pointed at the succor. She saw him there. Only he wasn't suppose to be there hence the pointing and now (assuming her mother is time lady or something similar) now that ruby is there alone the time window is activating to show her who she really is CAUSE THE DOCTOR ISN'T MEANT TO KNOW! For whatever reason he isn't meant to know. Oh! And Flood! God old Mrs. Flood! She's connected! Either she's her mother, regenerated or not, or she was tasked to look out for ruby, to drop her off and to stay close if needed! I'm calling it now

I am very dissapointed about the adventures they had offscreen. Always get a glimpse and they talk about it but it feels like you missed so much stories just cause Season is way shorter than it used to be. I mean the 13/12 episode Seasons were just perfect. Even 10 would be okay, but 8 is just 2 episodes too short.
