I was so sad David tennant was leaving, no way could this weirdo take over from him but nope...Matt won me over before fish fingers and custard and he quickly and firmly became my favourite Doctor. Always go into it with an open mind, best thing to do, it's always going to happen due to the doctors story arc of regeneration, I l always used to tell people that, even the ones who were throwing petitions about to have Tennant come back some how 😂 my advice is you can get attached to a doctor but don't get too attached

Hey Jess - just a quick stop on my way back to leave a note on your Rose video - I remember the weeks of boredom and indifference as you struggled through the first two years - leavened only by a truly unexpected 'Woah' in the one with the paving slab-oral sex joke. But you gradually began to enjoy the show more and more and eventually wound up watching the first Moffat season opener - a truly magical episode - because not only is it a lovingly crafted fairy-tale of a girl and a box and giant flying eyeballs FROM SPACE! - but it's also magical because it introduced Rory and Amy and Eleven to you. so glad you liked it. 11 is my favourite of new Who. I don't know if you realised that while the Doctor was eating his fish fingers and custard little Amelia says funny, and he says "funny, funny's good" being within his first few hours of regeneration that seems to inform his way of dealing with things, but if you look beyond the humour and subterfuge and note the small looks and pauses you will find a very weary old man. There is always more to this Doctors incarnation then what lies on the surface.

Something just occurred to me with the Doctor's idea to call the Atraxi back and warn them. 'leaving is good, never coming back is better' he says. It can be read as one of several callbacks to the Xmas Invasion (among other Dr debuts), in this case to the reasoning behind Harriet Jones decision to eliminate the Sycorax. It's almost like the Doctor has learned from that experience? The idea of the Doctor scaring off aliens by the sheer force of his reputation was I believe originally employed, for comic effect, in Kate Ormans's Dr Who novel 'Return of the Living Dad', in which a massed alien invasion horde is halved by the mere appearance of the Doctor on the scene. Once he shows himself, half the aliens just give up and go home. Its quite funny as I recall. Moffat takes the same trope and deploys it for dramatic effect, here (as you say, chillingly), and earlier (slightly less well in my view) in Forest of the Dead. This is is the best version of that trope. A real tingle moment.

IT'S HERE. :D And I'm here too, caught up and everything. I'm so glad you liked this episode. 'Magical' is definitely the word I'd choose to describe it as well. First episode of Eleven and Amy (and Rory, who has some of my favorite lines in this episodes of "Deadly aliens of death" & "...And now you're talking your clothes of" - bless). Also, as my boyfriend pointed out as I dragged him through Doctor Who "They finally got a proper camera!" (I mean, I love previous series', but I can agree that there's a definite shift in like, technical quality). I have a few series openers I usually rank higher as episodes, but The Eleventh Hour is the one I always comes back to watch again and again. I just adore it. So many feels all over the place, and a really good introduction episode. Just. Poor Amy Pond. Growing up, knowing that was real, having everyone tell her that it wasn't, dealing with the struggle of feeling like she was always left behind, and then he came back for her... I love it. Glad you did too. Your reaction was great, and even though I just had the sound, when you were almost tearing up in places, I did too, because I remember feeling those feels. It's great to have these reactions back. Can't wait for the next one! (But also don't stress with it. :D I'm amazed we got this before Christmas knowing all the stuff you've been going through.
