This is why I was so adamant about people not giving you their opinion on the episodes before your reaction is posted....some people tend to be down on this episode, but I enjoyed it for the same reasons you did (it shows why he travels with a companion). I apologize for causing the turmoil on the last feed, but you should be able to come into each of these fresh. thanks for posting, I got to watch it again for the first time.....

Typically I find myself more confused by the denouement of Moffat's Who work than I was during the body of the show. I have come to live with that, give or take the odd on-line snippy comment, but it can't be a Good Thing.

The Don't Wander Off mantra is from the first Moffat episode back in S1 - the Ninth Doctor complains about it to a cat while Rose is flying away on a barrage balloon. Glad you enjoyed that - I thought the weird pseudo British iconography might be a bit much!

Aw I'm really glad you liked this one! It tends to get overlooked. I think the script is a bit muddled and the whole idea falls down if you think about it for too long. But if you just kinda "go with it" it's actually got a wonderful idea at the heart of it and a really interesting moral dilemma.

It's nice to see you're really quickly settling in to that Moffat 'Fairytale in space' style, it does seem like it's closer to what you enjoy than RTD's 'I really REALLY want to be John Nathan-Turner' style

I hope your holidays have been lovely. :) I also wondered about Amy not changing clothes. The TARDIS has wardrobes, after all. I guess he just hadn't had a chance to sort them out again since the crash after regenerating from 10. Glad you liked the episode! I didn't realize how long it had been since the last time I watched it. I forgot just how much I liked Action Queen in this. :D As always, looking forward to more. See you next time!

Best post-christmas present I could have imagined. :D I'm so glad you liked this episode. It's generally kind of not that appreciated, which I find sad, because I love it. And I always tear up at the end as well. If you do like the tone of these two first episodes, I'm pretty sure you're generally going to like the rest of this season. S5 is definitely one of my favorites. Hope you enjoy and since it's coming up, hope you have a nice New Year's Eve! Great reaction, and I'll eagerly await the next one. :)

There's an amusing 'Rules For New Companions' scene in 'The Ribos Operation' Part One from 1978... DOCTOR: Now, pay attention. I'm not anticipating any trouble, but it's as well to be prepared for these things. Ground rules. Rule one, do exactly as I say. Rule two, stick close to me, and Rule three, let me do all the talking. Is that perfectly clear? ROMANA: You couldn't make it clearer. ... DOCTOR: The secret of survival is always to expect the unexpected. (Scraping of stone against stone then the Doctor calls out.) DOCTOR: Oh! Ow! (The Doctor is hanging inside a large net.) ROMANA: Ah. I think this is to stop animals wandering into the city at night. There's a cocking lever there, just below the keystone. DOCTOR: Yes, I wondered if you'd notice that. That's good. That's very good, very good...

Being able to watch you and your reactions again is a joy. I've always said how genuine you are and how your heart shows through. The first two-part story is coming up in episodes 4&5. A familiar threat is behaving in an unfamiliar way. The reasons for it are explained in the episode though. Oh and Amy needs to work through some issues along the way too. Happy New Year!

This one's interesting. It doesn't really gel, but I do like the ideas behind it. The Doctor's anger at the end is so heartbreaking and understandable, since Amy forced him into a decision between three horrible things without his consent.

The first half of Series 5 suffered horribly at the time from two things, David Tennant was gone, and the style was no longer Russell T Davies' So many people judged those episodes much more harshly than they usually would. Looking back on these episodes, they were actually mostly solid, if goofy in places (Go Go Power Daleks for example)

I imagine it is also due to the amount of time it takes to edit and upload longer videos - especially in HD. I once uploaded a video (around 13-15 minutes in length). Hours later it finally finished uploading. The standard length of a Doctor Who episode is 45 minutes. In 720p HD that would take a while.

I'm surprised you liked this one, but looking through the comments it seems people's views have changed since it first came out :) The next story is, in my opinion, a pretty insightful look into *those* villain's psyche, and shows a bit more of their cunning if you will. However, in my opinion it does have a fair anti-climax and also gives *those* villains a pretty ridiculous...well, you'll see.

One of the best things about Doctor Who's longevity is that episodes get re-evaluated after the initial gut-reaction on release. Episodes like this or Boom Town initially get a really bad response, but in time people warm up to them, while others lose a bit of the initial overhype (For example The End of Time has suffered poorly from the test of time to a lot of fans) This even still happens with classic episodes, 'Tomb of the Cybermen' was thought a classic for the longest time, got found, now it's just a rather mediocre Troughton story, while 'Enemy of the World' was the reverse, an episode long thought of as unimportant, mediocre and silly, but when found is now considered one of the greatest in the show's history. It makes you wonder what things will be like in another fifty years, when episodes like this are 'Classics' and The Doctor is being played by someone who isn't even born yet

One of the things about Doctor who I love is that it is always showing us how terrible humans can be and then showing us how beautiful and noble we can be aswell, its a constant duality. We're the most selfish but noble race in the universe.

I enjoyed the reaction more than the show. I didn't (and don't) get why the decision to enslave star whale decision had to produce the other repressive aspects of society or why Liz 10 hadn't dealt with that repression straight out instead of faffing about in corridors waiting to help out stray travellers in time and space. It seemed to me that Moffat was stapling together two different stories and they didn't really fit. And although I liked Amy's analogy at the end I really, really didn't need to hear it three times. But in fairness watching it a third time it probably had more good points than bad.

I have such a hard time getting into this series, because the show changed so much from series 4 to five. The cameras, the lighting, the special effects. Everything changed, and I know it was for the better, but four and half series of the gritty lighting and (shitty) cgi, made this new brighter and more sleek looking show, hard to watch.

Underrated episode I think, I don't get why everyone, even the writer, is so down on it. It's very modern with some interesting political themes. My only issue with it is that I find the ending somewhat rushed. Not sure I find it entirely plausible how Amy comes up with the solution that the Doctor has so utterly failed to see.

The Watcher for me the main problem is that there's only one Moffat, and he had no obvious back up writer. RTD could always rely on getting 1-2 great episodes a series from Moffat. But Moffat was doing nearly all the heavy lifting alone.

I guess the main reason for that is that you'll have to pay attention to what's going on in the Moffat era while you don't have to do much of that in the RTD era- in fact, I feel like the Moffat era isn't confusing or convoluted or anything, it's actually pretty simple if you pay attention to what's going on
