Glad you're liking season 5 so far. Seasons 5 and 6 are probably my favourites of all the new doctor seasons. I know Steven Moffat gets criticised for his lack of respect for the previous canon, but his block of episodes is some of the most sophisticated storytelling doctor who has ever had.

To this day, I have no clue why people disliked Moffat's era when - in my opinion - it turned Doctor Who into a show that you wouldn't be too embarrassed about recommending it to a friend. When it's dark, cerebral, interesting, clever, and it's dotted with genuine charm and wit - that's when Who is at its best. When it's childish, has a dumb monster, lame/"zany" characters and set up, it makes me utterly cringe (hence why I have yet to see the latest Xmas special when I saw that there's a fucking superhero with cape in it). This episode (and the one after it) are in my top ten favourite Who episodes.

Wolves Of Winter I personally don't think that. It's other people who say those things. If you want to know specifics, you'll have to ask them, they're not hard to find, just look in the comments section under any doctor who video. Maybe "respect" was the wrong word to use. The complains I see most from people often revolve around continuity with previous stories. I once has a conversation in a youtube comment section with a fan who said he thought doctor who should be cancelled because of what Moffat has done to the continuity of the show. Some people in this fandom seem to put more emphasis on continuity with some random episode from 1974 than they do about telling good stories today.

The Master, Daleks, Cybermen, Sarah Jane, Peter Davison, Jo Grant, The Brigadier, etc. were all brought back by him. And it's not like he acted as if the 9th Doctor was actually the first, either. Moffat on the otherhand, who has he brought back? Where's Martha? Where's Jack? Where's.. anybody, really?

The moment where they realize the Aplans have two heads and the statues don't lol that was the moment i was hooked. Purely because of the shock value i didn't have a clue until they pointed it out and i felt so thick haha. This was the first episode of doctor who i ever saw. Loved it.

My thoughts at the very beginning was basically 'How to break Sesska: River + Weeping Angels + Bigger cast'. :D I was really looking forward to this one because I remembered how much you enjoyed River last time. I'm sorry about what you're going through, whatever it is. Just so you know, I understand, Doctor Who helped me from times to times when things were hard. I won't spoil you anything, THAT MANY of the quotes from this era that come to my mind just writing this, but I do believe that Eleven is the best "therapy Doctor" in that way. Amy's journey is about dream and making your life what you want it to be and it helped me a lot, honestly. I struggled a lot to go from Ten to Eleven, I didn't watch the show for months, but in the end, it's the best journey ever. I hope it will help you as well. I know a lot of people complain about Moffat's writing being over the top, weird, but when he wants to make his viewers dream and travel and be hopeful, he does it very well too.

I'm not sure if you know this already, but after the next episode there's a mini episode called 'Meanwhile in the TARDIS 2' (MITT 1' was between the Eleventh Hour and The Beast Below) that's really worth watching. It's not totally important, but it does link that episode and the one after it quite well. It's also good for getting the Doctor and Amy's relationship back on track (and as you've already seen the second part of this story, I assume you know what I'm talking about, hah).

I love season 5, the chemistry between the Doctor and Amy is awesome, and throw River into the mix and you get absolute bad ass awesomeness. I remember the outrage when this episode first came on the BBC. At the very dramatic moment at the end when the Doctor is talking about 'what you never put in a trap if you value your lives' an ident banner for the next show came on at the bottom of the screen. It was an advert for the Graham Norton chat show and took the form of a cartoon figure of Graham acting the fool and utterly ruining the mood of the climax of this Doctor Who episode. I absolutely LOVE the 11th Doctor's relationship with Amy. It's just pure fun. I loved 10 and Donna, but there's just something about 11 and Amy that is so enjoyable. This is the version of the Doctor that shows more of a heart at times and can be down right genuine and nice...but also extremely silly. He is very much a "kid", but he definitely matures very well through his run. I still think he's my favorite just because he had some great stories and did such a great job while also being the youngest actor to play the role.

As soon as the shoes appeared I said to myself "Jess is going to LOVE those shoes!" (because they're fabulous), then I thought "Jess is going to think that gun is too cute" (because it is), next "Jess is going to beyond excited to see River again!" (because River is tops), and finally "Jess is going to lose it when she realizes the Weeping Angels are back!" (because, like me, they're one of your favorite villains). And your reaction was awesome on each point! I think this is my favorite reaction of yours so far. And it's super cool that it's on one of my favorite episodes! The end was so sweet, that's what Doctor Who is for some people (Including myself), an escape. Like with Mickey, it's been really awesome to see Doctor Who through someone else's eyes and you're making me like Series 5 a whole lot more than I did before. I mean I liked it plenty, and there's still some amazing episodes ahead (one of my all-time favourites is in here) but it's great seeing so much enthusiasm for it at this point. This was an awesome episode with great characters, and I think the show just looks the part too (this was the first series of DW that was full-on HD so they kind of had to up the visuals a bit more)...hoping you enjoy the episodes ahead, apart from a couple I really don't like I've remembered how fun a lot of these ones are!

That was an awesome reaction! It left me giddy, thank you so much. To answer your question near the beginning (River flying through space), remember the TARDIS can project an air shell around itself? River asked for an "air corridor" and that's what it was. (Though, contrary to a number of Hollywood movies, even without it, that short an exposure to vacuum would *not* have been fatal or even that injurious.) Hope you enjoy the next episode just as much. :)

It's easy to miss, but after River gives the Doctor her time co-ordinates, she also says she'll need an 'air corridor', implying he extended the air shell around the TARDIS out as a bridge between it and the ship, so that she could fly between them without dying.

I am sure many have told you the best, for River is coming up in the next couple of seasons. Stay away from the Doctor Who Christmas Special from 2015 though, that has to be seen at the right time.
